Sadly most of these are forgotten, except to few people. I use the name Conte as it was a title awarded to my Great Grand uncle for acts of valour in the first world war (just a simple single handed torpedo boat attack on a defended enemy harbour). Of course no-one has heard of him, but he, along with may others risked life and limb for his country.

Cuts always need to be made, and frankly some areas of history are too complex for the majority of the populace to understand.
Want a history induced headache? Go read up on the middle east from the end of WWI to the start of WWII.
