Depends on the conditions. In locations where it’s possible to have contact with the enemy, the gunner just elevates the gun when crossing difficult terrain. During transit in peaceful times, there’s no need to have the gun at the ready so it’s traversed to the rear and usually the barrel is secured to the hull to prevent it from oscillating and stressing the turret-ring/elevation mechanisms

105mm L/52 is actually shorter than KWK 43, although you’re right about balance, a problem already present in the up-armored Tiger P which had to point the turret backwards when crossing difficult terrain, and that was with the short 88.

I’m not sure about uparmoring the front or installing a larger gun would be just a matter of suspension weight limits. Tank balance plays a large role into the tank’s characteristics and the lopsided load on the front roadwheels could be too much for the suspension to handle

I played both :)
Trust me, it has better gun soft stats, better DPM and hunts medium tanks better :)

Why did they order 70 more turrets then hulls? Had they already decided to use them on the Henschel Tiger 2 hulls, or where they just being optimistic about future Porsche hull orders?

WG said a while back that they’ll combine everything VK 45.01 related and have them as optional hulls.

Three words- rear.mounted.turret. The vkB reigns supreme as far as sidescrapping goes. Granted, it’s a lot more sluggish than the OP-75, but it’s nothing you can’t fix with some intelligent gameplay.

Now the vkA, that one was dreadfully not my playstyle…
