the engine bay might be small for 1943/1944 but not for a modern electro-diesel plant.

remember that a modern moto-generator for this use would use a high efficiency 3-phase generator then thyrystor banks as rectifiers with electronic control and 3-phase AC induction engine being driven by variable-frequency drivers.

you could put a couple of modern deutz turbodiesel generator engines and you could make the maus plow way faster than original speed

that’s a REALLY weird engine bay..
and yeah.. in that case, most engines won’t fit.. they’re usually lower but longer, around 2 meters.

I actually looked at most, if not all, the MTU Engines.

It was impossible to locate an engine that fit within the box. If it did, fit it happened to be low powered.

That engine looks like it would fit. I’ll add it to my list.

PS: MT883 fits perfectly and there is even space left, only turbocharger would have to be moved lower (or maybe even not, total height is not provided here):

The question is, if the generator is missing too? And main electic motors.

They will probably try to fit some modern version of V-2, but if you want to pack sth. better, MTU would be your call – they finally did manage to fit into Merkava’s engine compartment and limits were pretty strict.

The Engine bay is about 1783mm long by 1330mm tall by 1000mm wide…

And then number of modern engines that I have found that can fit in such a box has been very few… They will be in Maus Engines Part 2. But it will take a long time to track all of the engines down. Most modern marine engines are actually too wide or too tall or both.

The KMDB 6TD-1 and, iirc, the 6TD-2 will fit in the existing bay and would provide enough power. However it would probably be easier to get one of the proposed engines since things would line up better.

That is true that it would be a no problem to find some modern turbo Diesel engine that is small, affordable and can produce 1000-1500hp. But I guess the point is to find something from the same decade to make it more “historical”.

Guys, ANY worthwhile “restoration” will take 10 years minimum, and that given things like Engine/Gearboxes etc etc are even in existence, it will not matter how much money you throw at it even to do it half correct.

Just watch, these guys will take the ultimate WW2 AFV “relic”, they will abuse it, alter it and engine it with some shit Russian tank engine and play with it for some stronk Russian Macho shit, they may even paint it Pink for the expanding Japanese market.

Just watch the wrecking start
