Undocumented Nerfs in 9.0

Hello everyone,

there is a hidden M4 Sherman nerf, that wasn’t in the original patchnotes.

M4 Sherman – top turret:

- 105mm howitzer reload time nerfed from 8s to 9s
- 105mm howitzer aimtime nerfed from 2,3s to 2,5s
- 76mm M1A1 reload time nerfed from 4,2s to 4,8s
- shot dispersion on the move on hard surfaces increased by 12 percent

    • Might be because the M4 sherman is just so much better than all other t5 mediums: great pen, good alpha, epic gun depression and t7 levels of view range.

      I actually expected them to nerf the view range but this doesn’t surprise me either.

      • they gave me just another reason to don’t play this game anymore .. I started to play this game because of M4 Sherman! and it was only Tank I really liked.

      • Clearly why I always 1 or 2 shot it with my Panzer 4 while it struggles to pen me with the 75mm and do over 150 damage to me with the derp.
        The T-34 is a much more dangerous vehicle compared to it.

          • I fear the T-34 with a 57 mm gun more than I fear an M4 or Panzer IV with the 105 mm howitzer whenever I’m top tier in a tier 7 tank. In the hands of a competent player, a T-34 can be the most dangerous tier 5 medium in the game, but it has a steep learning curve if you want to get REALLY good with it.

            • I really like the T-34. When I have more money, I’ll buy it back. Once you figure out that it’s basically an autoloader, it’s hugely powerful. Wait until someone fires, unload while they reload, drop back. Suddenly, 300 damage.

              the M4 did need a nerf though. Especially with the HEAT derp, it’s ridiculously OP at tier 5. Not quite KV1S, but still, the speed, the alpha damage, even the ROF. supposing consistent pen and average rolls, you’re talking 2300 DPM at tier 5, with 101mm of pen. And that’s AFTER the nerf. 2600+ pre-nerf.

        • Confirmation bias. The (pre-9.0) Pz IV just had a very slightly better derpgun (slightly better HEAT pen and soft stats, mostly useless AP round) and slightly better profile/camo. In exchange, it had much worse armour (especially on the turret), gun depression, and view range.

    Good thing I sold my M4 ages ago and starting to train a PZ IV crew seems to be paying off :)

    • You should have seen the PZ IV when it had the L/70 on it. They took it away though saying (if I remember right) it was to powerful or historically inaccurate. I can’t remember which one. But if they was pulling the historical thing then about half the tanks should have guns removed from them.

      • Lol now that was OP. I used to snipe KV1`s at 500m easily and they couldnt even hit me.

        150 Pen at T5 with normal ammo :) Also had 2k DPM and 8 degrees depression lol

        • And it HAD to be: the KV-1 and KV-2 were just the KV at tier 5, so you had tier 5 tanks with 152 mm howitzers or 107 mm guns, and the KV-3 was tier 6. The Panzer IV with the L/70 was a hard counter to the old KV.

    • Because WG is terrible at patch notes.

      They often forget to include details ranging from insignificant to pretty fucking huge.

      • I have had a couple people on NA east server argue with me that any changed they do they ALWAYS list them in the patch notes and that they have to. I laughed at them and told them I wish I could live in their fantasy world where everything happens like how its suppose to and nothing is ever done wrong.

  2. Yeah they made great suspension system but they wanted the shit to be real, so they’ve increased dispersion on hard surfaces

    That sucks! M4 now has the rof of a 120mm cannon.

    • Consider: the M1A1 has better damage, penetration and (while on the M4) gun depression than its main competition in the game, the L/48. Worse accuracy, but that doesn’t matter so much after 8.6 made snipers out of “inaccurate” guns.

      Add to that the Sherman’s typical ‘merican gun mantle, making it less likely to take damage when abusing that gun depression.

      Given all that, I can see the justification for the slight RoF nerf. Should probably thank your lucky stars that they didn’t hit it harder.

    • Agreed. Any derp nerfs (not only for Sherman) are appriciated – it’s just a sloppy gamestyle – herp n derp.

      M1A2 ROF nerf- I’m not sure about it. The DPM is already pretty average, why the need to make it even worse?

      If sth needs DPM cut, it’s the T-34/Type-34…..
      Also Panzer IV could do with a bit of ROF buff.

    but how do you really know that? is it just overall average of all crews or just from current testing phase?
    did you stand near howitzer crew and timed them?
    maybe this particular crew was tired, did not sleep well, maybe you need to sample couple of crews in different companies.
    maybe your timer was flawed, did you double check?
    where is your sample data?

    • Tank Inspector shows that if you set the Commander Skill to 0%(This is impossible, but for a stat perspective….), the reload time in 8.11 is 8 seconds. With a 100% crew fully(meaning 110% loader with the commander bonus), it’s 7.6 seconds per reload

      In 9.0 test 3, using the same process as before it’s reload time is 9 seconds. With a 100% crew it’s 8.6

      • How come in game it still says that the M4 Sherman still has 7.5 ROF (instead of what should be 6.6 ROF) and 2.3 aiming time (rather than 2.5)?

  5. since when is dispersion on the move linked to the type of terrain? I swear dispersion on the move was only linked to tracks and speed (and maybe aceleration?). with rest of acc (on the move) linked to the gun, gunner primary skill, BIA and smooth driving

  6. Well now the Panzer 4, which was on equal standing with the M4 Sherman before patch 9.0, is far better than the M4 Sherman.
    Must be hard to be an M4 Sherman fanboy.
    Now all WG need to do is give the Panzer 4 its historical 80mm mantlet and buff the 75mm L48. Inb4 they nerf the panzer 4 after that by giving it it’s historical engine……

    • It has it’s historical engine, you mean it’s historical horsepower. And doing that would require a rebalance for all the lower tiers akin to the Tiger engine rebalance in 8.8

    • Are you mad? pzIV equal standing? The m4 was the superior tank simply because of its ability to hulldown,

      • And the fact that its frontal armor is sloped, which gave tier 3s and 4s all kinds of headaches.

  7. It is very amusing that the stock 75mm gun is untouched by these changes. Not saying that we’ll see more Sherman 75s rolling around, but that gun might see a bit more experimental use.

  8. Good think I moved my 5 skill crew from my M4 to the M7 ages ago. Only thing that made it op was it HEAT shells but that was fixed. It already had horrible shot dispersion now they just want to kill it.

  9. That really hits me as the M4 is my favourite tank, but I don’t really care. I still can hurt my enemies badly, even with these nerfs.

  10. tbh I dont think reload or aim time was the biggest problem with the HEAT DICK gun. And speaking of nerfs, I hope someone posts the final armor models for the M103/Tortoise soon, the M103 especially seemed like it got hit way too hard in the test variant on the front armor.
