Liberation of Minsk Video

Hello everyone,

an official Wargaming video about the 70 years anniversary of Minsk liberation from nazi occupation (the anniversary was on 3.7.2014 actually). The video has English subtitles and it’s actually quite interesting. Enjoy!

  1. the old footage is quite impressive, but I don’t see any subtitles, English or otherwise

      • Thanks for the hint, I’ll look into that. Ran CCleaner not long ago, it might have removed some cookie stuff thats useful for that

    • Next to where you change the vid quality, you should have the sub icon. select english, or whatever you want :D

  2. Nice video, learned a few details from it, but I have another question.
I don’t want to sound like a bitch, but damn, those soldiers have A LOT of medals in every video from WG. Did they earn all of them, or they were just decorated for the purpose of the video?

      • Thanks for answer. It just that number of medal amazes me because I never saw a war veteran in person so I could see that. I apologize for asking such stupid question. I never wanted to say anything against those people.

        • It’s quite a hassle putting all those medals on so the veterans usually only put on the most important ones.

    • Yes of course, they picked random guy on the street, put some medals on him and gave him a script to read.

Now wait, what? Are you serious? I am amazed you can even ask a question like that. Try to think for 5 min about it please and then come back with the results.

      • Actually only a few medals are won during the war, many of them are given after the war for war veterans.. I remember I had 3 of the them from my grandfather he fought in Romanian army during the wwII and he was in supply line.. nothing to do with actual fighting.. but he still managed to get captured twice, once by russians, once by germans. He told me he didn’t even carry a weapon during the war and still got 3 medals.(not during the war, but after)

  3. Speaking critically; the vid was quite informative and objective overall, and I was happy to learn from it. But I found myself getting irritated in the extreme by the distinctly prideful tone that kept leaking-out (and the music that added to it). I don’t understand why there seems to be this need in most Russian media I’ve seen recently to have such tones, indeed it worries me as propagandizing a national identity has historically motivated toward conflicts.

    • yeah, i have the same idea about most of those videos. Also, wasnt this part of russia oppressed a few years earlier by another man with a noticable moustache?

oh well, history is writen by the victorious i gues.

  5. Nice propaganda video. The irony is that the liberation by the Red Army meant nothing but a different occupation, an occupation which plunged Eastern Europe (and Russia) in a deep, dark hole. The results are visible to this day. Of course, everybody in Western Europe should thank the Red Army for its freedom, but Eastern Europe paid the price for it and got absolutely nothing but tears in return. Never forget that the Soviets were just as evil as the Nazis. In a different way to be sure, but Stalin got more people murdered than Hitler.
