Storm Requests 9.4 Freeze Bug Feedback

Hello everyone,

it’s possible 9.4 brought another nasty bug. Under certain conditions, the game lags/freezes for 7-15 seconds. This bug was not yet completely confirmed, but it was reported numerous times on RU forum. Thus, Storm is asking whether you are experiencing something like that.

In ideal case, if you are interested in feedback and are suffering from such a bug in 9.4, please leave feedback in the comments, specifically:

- server and time it happened
- how often does it happen to you and when in battle (start, end, randomly)
- which tank did it happen with
- on which map did it happen
- your PC configuration (CPU, GPU, memory)

I will link the answers to him. I do not experience this bug on my PC, so I can’t give you any hints what to look for. Thanks guys.

  1. I was on EU2 and it happened to me once. It was about 5-7 in the afternoon about 3 mins into the battle on Siegfried Line in my Chaffee. I have an AMD X64 Athlon 2.8 ghz quad with and ATI Radeon HD5570(i think, 1 GB) and 4 gigs of RAM

    • loled so hard at this.
dont think they needed to know if it happened in the evening when they asked for the time.

  2. Strange, I’m getting some microfreezes since 9.3. Not 7-15, but 1-2, sometimes 3-4 secs long ones. Not a single one in some battles, but quite frequent (about every 30 secs) at some other times. Quite annoying, especially in knife fights with mediums. At first I thought it’s some hardware issue, but i double checked everything with multiple different programs, and everything’s seems to be fine on my side. I got 4 gigs of RAM (1GHz, DDR2), a GTX260 vidcard, a dual core Intel E8400, and Win7 64 bits installed.

    And no, it’s not lag:)

      • I don’t use any mods apart from Gnomefather’s Engines, and WT Gun Sounds Mod. But the game microfreezed with a completely “clean” client too, right after updating.

        • With “clean” do you mean that you removed and re-downloaded all the game files?
If you just updated, did you restore original audio files before updating? If that’s how Gnomefather’s mods still need to be installed. (replacing original files, not using res_mods).

If there was files remaining from audio mods installed in previous patches, it could still cause issues.

  3. I had few times on close combat situation where everything seemed to start freezing.. my fps dropped from 100 to 20.. on the second time when it happened I was killed because of the freezing and I went to check on my desktop and active processes, but couldn’t find obvious reasons. I didn’t suspect that WoT itself would’ve caused that kind of freezing.

Have to keep my eyes peeled when it happens the next time.

  4. 1.EU2
2.About 2-4pm (EET), Thursday and Saturday
3.Randomly.. once in a day( but happens, when i see a easy frags)and by the time i get back to server(usually that freeze ends with “Lost Connection”) i am already dead
    4.IS-7, VK 30.01 H for a while
    5.Abbey and Tundra
    6. i5 4200U (up to 2,6GHz), AMD Radeon HD8750M, 4GB RAM.
and we are in 9.4 now. tho…

  5. EU2 (I’m in LT) yesterday afternoon – time around 19-20h utc.
Few minutes into battle, ping went to ~120-200ms (usually is ~55-60), had rubber-jumping for ~30secs.
    T-43
    Erlenberg
i7-4771 (3,5ghz), GF760 (4gb), RAM 16 gb – graphic all on max (without grass in sniper).

  6. Keep in mind microfreezes comes from the game accesing your HDD while ingame, SSD users dont have this problem.

Never had this bug, but since 9.4 there’s a giant artifact on lightning in Lakeville and another map only visible in certain location and looking to the center of the map.

    • That’s why i thought it’s my HDDs fault. I experienced huge microfreezes about a half year ago (practically I couldn’t enter sniper mode, because the game froze for 10-15 secs), and my HDD died not much later. But now I defragmented my hard drive multiple times, and it’s in perfect condition, according to HD Sentinel.

  7. Hello,

    - server and time it happened
Got this on both EU1 and EU2. Got it 5-6 times already and it was between 18:00 and 23:00 CET+2

    - how often does it happen to you and when in battle (start, end, randomly)
I couldn’t figure out a repro for this. It happens randomly. For instance, I was driving near a building and got the freeze.
Weird enough, only the visual freezes as the audio goes on normally. When the game resumes, I found out that the tank drove by itself in the last know direction of travel.
Also, on the replay this isn’t visible at all. The freeze occurs only when playing Live.

    - which tank did it happen with
Got it twice on S35ca, once on ARL v39, once on T20, once on Chaffee and maybe a few other times on other tanks. Can’t really recall.

    - on which map did it happen
I remember getting in on Ruinberg on fire (S35ca) and on Kharkov (ARL v39).

    - your PC configuration (CPU, GPU, memory)
    CPU: Intel i5 4690k
    GPU: nVidia GTX 760
    RAM: 12gb DDR3 1600mhz

  8. I’ve been experiencing this since 0.9.3 at least or so. But not for 7-15 seconds, but roughly a minute out of a sudden. The FPS goes down to unplayable ~5fps instantly, no playing possible, and then after around a minute, it goes up to normal FPS instantly.

Old Thinkpad T500 with Core2Duo T9900@3.06GHz and ATI Radeon HD 3600. 8GB RAM + Samsung EVO 500 SSD.

I am a software developer and not that kind of braindead when it comes to software and processes and their workings and problem solution. But I am puzzled with this. What I always have is the suspicion that this starts to happen when some yet unloaded sound (especially arty impact sound) “plays” when the projectile hits next to my tank. But this might be just coincidence.

I’v been updating the chipset drivers to even newer ones then officially supported by Intel (Intel too lazy not updating chipset IDs in .inf file), updated “soundcard” drivers (see above), optimizing SSD setup (due to heavy temp-dir-hammering by WoT unpacking the shader files IIRc) been watching/fetching the system events with SysInternals ProcessMonitor during that happens and been analyzing them and I literally have no clue where to look next. All looks OKisch.

What bugs me most is, that this is *not* reproduceable with replays (even of that specific freeze-battles) and a shitload of system load producing burn-in-test-tools running when the replay is being run. It runs smooth. So if this is kind of a server-side or network related bug, that could explain it why I can’t reproduce this locally when running the replay.

  9. Na server
    almost every match
    At the start

    All tanks (besides my t30)
All maps ( besides ensk) ( don’t know why)

    Windows 8
    4 gig ram
    500 gb hard drive

  10. I have problam with this bug, but for me game dont freez for 15 sec, it freez completely, and in task manager say that game Not responding.

    1. EU1 and EU2 random time
    2. Randomly, sometime in begining, sometime in middle of battle
    3. Dont specific tank, it happened with Centurion Mk/1, with T34, VK 7201 …
    4. Mostly on city maps
    5. Intel Pentium D 3.4 , 2 Gb Ram , Ati Radeon X1600/X1650 1Gb (Windows XP)

Today I was start replay of game, and its freez on counting on beginning

    • HEY, have the same problem as you.
Game freezez most often at the beggining of battle, once in middle. It does not freeze until you move your camera around. I have the same OS and G.card, but i use Intel Core 2Duo 1.6 and 3Gb Ram.
It happened to me with many tanks and maps. Iv notice that when it freezes some of the grou d textures in far distance are not loaded.

      • HEY, I’m also suffering the same problem with my calculator…
Game freezes my computer, sometimes it’s possible to kill it by task manager, sometimes not (hard reset is needed).

I have very old HP 6820s with T2410@2.0GHz, 2GB of RAM and Radeon x1350, Windows XP.

  11. I ran across this as well. US (East Coast) server, I thought my internet connection was being stupid, so I dismissed it until I saw this post.
It was on Hidden Village, in my VK20.01D
    AMD 9550 CPU
    GTX275
    Win7 x64 8GB RAM DDR2 800, SSD for main drive
I was locked up for a good 15 seconds, but amazingly I didn’t die.

  12. This happened to me at least 3 or maybe even 4 times since the patch 9.4 and I was really confused since it showed my ping is OK but I couldnt move at all.
    I always play on EU1.
Random tanks and random maps this happened in.
No idea about the time this happened probably somewhere in the evening.
Cant be bothered looking up my PC configuration.
LOL didnt help much since I dont know the details at all but at least I know Im not alone xD

  13. - server and time it happened
    RU7
    it started last week

    - how often does it happen to you and when in battle (start, end, randomly)
Looks like it happened randomly sometimes after PC or WoT restart bug doesn`t reproduce during 1 hour but sometime restart doesn`t help

    - which tank did it happen with
    Dont specific tank Type T-34, T32, ….

    - on which map did it happen
    Dont specific map

    - your PC configuration (CPU, GPU, memory)
    I5 3570K
    DDR3 2x4Gb 2133 MHz
    GTX 760
SSD 256 Gb main drive (for Windows and WoT)
    HDD 1Tb

  14. Microfreezes, especially annoying when in dogfight, randomly, I play EU1 almost exclusively. Sometimes only the recticle gets stuck.

Sometimes I have freezes just before destroying someone / getting destroyed. I know I will die, when this happens. I remember this from Swamp and Ruinberg, also Prokhorovka, but it isn’t map specific, IIRC. Tanks – e.g. AMX-13/90 and JgTig 88mm, T-54 and SPers (it’s connected to loading the wreck model, IMHO, and these are the tanks I play most now). It happens randomly in battles (sometimes I get a day full of this things, sometimes I don’t notice it at all), but usually it happens in the afternoon/evening.

    CPU: i5-2430M (2,4 GHz), RAM: 4 GB DDR3 (1333MHz), GPU: Radeon 6470M (512 MB), HDD: Standard 500GB SATA. Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

As you see, I use not – so – modern laptop for this, standard render, texture and objects quality set to high.

  15. so 9.4, such optimization, no bugs, very professional

  16. I haven’t experienced this, but there is another one: game not closing properly with process staying in memory ad infinum – you have to kill it manually.
Some say that it may be mod-related, but shouldn’t core game have control over it?

  17. Have this rather frequently, but mostly during peak times. Checked it and is not lag or fps related.

Tank and map do not matter, short freezes of 2-6 secs.

    Running an I7 with 3ghz 4gb ddr3 and an nvidia gts 250

  18. My grandpa has a bug, where the game completely freezes and a reboot of his PC is required.
Worst part is that this counts towards the “leave battle” punishment.
I don’t know which maps it happens on, but it happens in tier 8 games and above he said.

We tried to reinstall, but i am not sure if that worked. He mostly plays tier 6, and there it didn’t happen before nor after.

Although this is possibly a completely different problem entirely.

  19. I don´t know if this is relevant, but I recently updated my hardware and when installing new drivers I accidentally installed also “Intel rapid storage technology” program. For week or two I was wondering what the hell is causing freezes (10-30s) on my computer. First I thought it was the new update for WOT, but then I noticed that also Firefox and windows explorer freezes from time to time. That got me thinking that it has to do something with my SATA drives and noticed that “intel rapid storage technology” program had enabled a feature called link-power management (LPM). When I disabled this feature the freezes stopped and I haved had any freezes since.

Hope this helps someone with freeze problems.

  20. Holy crap, I have no idea for all the info BUT I can confirm this bug to be happening on very random occasions. It cost me at least a couple of matches already. Last time it happened was last night with my bro in a platoon, it happened to me, but not him, even tho we have the same internet connection(router).

I think it is completely random, not map/tank/server dependent.

  21. - server and time it happened
    EU2 03:15 GMT Saturday 15/11/14
    - how often does it happen to you and when in battle (start, end, randomly)
It has happened once it was at the start of the battle lasted 10-30 secs ended in Lost connection, got inactivity warning as result
    - which tank did it happen with
    AMX 50 Foch T9
    - on which map did it happen
    Sacred Valley
    - your PC configuration (CPU, GPU, memory)
    Intel I5 2500K overclocked to 4.5GHz, MSI R280X Gaming edition 3GB, 12GB total RAM

  22. Experienced micro freezes Friday evening Nov. 14 EST, NA server.
    i7 4790K O/C to 4.5Mhz
    GigaByte MB
    16 MB ram
    Radeon R290 4GB ram
    480 MB Mushkin Pro SSD
    Windows 7 64bit
Internet ping was in the 40 – 60 ms range
    I use aslain.com mods

    No micro freezes since.

  23. I had a very strange incident when my tank stopped responding to controls and kept driving straight. To add insult to injury it happened right before we encountered enemy. Full HP Tiger casually drove it’s side pointing at all their guns until it was reduced to smoking pile of scrap. Ping was OK-ish 50-60 and there was no packet loss indication. Later i played several matches without further incidents. But boy was i sour after that…

    My config is i5 3210M, 4GB RAM, 2GB nVidia GT365M, 500GB 7200rpm HDD.

  24. - Usually EU2, less common on EU1
    - happens on specific case randomly in battle
    - T49, specific case is being ammoracked
    - as I rarely get ammoracked, even if it’s more common to get ammoracked in T49, it’ doesn’t depend on map
    - Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6300, Asus Radeon HD4650, 4GB of RAM with Windows Server 2008R2

  25. I have this bug !
I have GTX 680 and 3770k, also 8GB RAM… the only bottleneck would be my normal HDD… but its caviar black… so its not some random shit.
It starts freezing really really hard… from 60 goes down to 20,16,25… and such nubmers (but not in all games).
After t = x[s], it stopps and goes back to 60… like nothing happened.
Never experienced this before (only in patches 9.0,1,2 – and that wasnt the same. It dropped to 10 fps for about 2s and than it went back to normal.
Also my fps was cool in the patch 9.3… now i have some problems in sniper mode (sometimes)

  26. Hi there. Not sure if I experienced exactly THIS bug, main difference is the freeze duration. Not 7-15 seconds but a total graphics freeze. Left screen with WoT froze, skype, right screen froze as I tabbed out WoT, Skype (as resident in RAM I guess) continued work. Forced to reset. No bootable device found until HardPowerOff.

  27. This bug is definitely occupied on the servers, without a doubt. Most bugs and network hitches with this game are server side because lets face it, their server are shite.

    - Have no idea when it happened as I didn’t note it.
    - Happens around 5 times per day. Usually when being hit by an enemy (mostly arty)
    - Happened in my WZ-120, SU-101, MT-25, IS and probably more
    - can’t remember
    - i5 2500K, GTX 660 TI OC, 8GB.

  28. )when getting hit

    -8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    -2,9 GHz Intel Core i7
    -750GB HDD
-Mac OSX 10.10 (Wargaming supported version of WoT)

This bug happened once, but it fixed itself after a client restart.
    Haven’t encountered it again.

  29. So, from a quick glance, 3 reports (including mine) reporting lags/freezes when being hit. (One also reporting the suspicion especially with arty hit, like I do recall, too.)

  30. 1. Both EU1 and EU2, several times.
    2. About each 10 battles I get a freeze on battle start, about second after battlefield is loaded (even before 30s countdown). Repeatable freezes also happen occasionally when my tank explodes. Also when browsing the map fast with arty “strategic” view I have 0.5-1 sec freezes.
3+4. Many tanks, many maps. On Stalinogrod I have experienced a few freezes during the game, which has not happenend on any other map.
    5. 2.8 GHz i5, 4GB, ATI Radeon HD 5570

    • Just to add: these freezes at the start/destruction does not last several seconds – they just hang up my client. I’ve waited over a minute, no help.
Todays micropatch didn’t help, it still happens.

  31. only thing i had was disconected when i tried to push friendly IS 7 on top of hill, also i got enormous ammount of lagspikes even when my latency is about 60 and i can play other games fine

    Server Eu1
    Map malinovka
    Happened once
    Tank batchat
AMD phenom x6 3.9GHZ, 16GB Ram, ATI radeon HD 7850 system and wot installed on SSD, Win 7 64bit

  32. I get this when the timer ends.It is not every fight about 1 in 6. I play mainly on EU1. Generally the type of tank doesn’t but the super pershing seems to get it more often. Lasts around 10 seconds. I play on minimum settings.

Can’t remember the specs of my pc as I am away.

  33. After everyone reports the numerous freezes lags etc ( tanks flipping around 180′ so your ass faces the enemy another fav right after a freeze lag of 6-12 seconds. ya always nice.

They’ll come out with some ludicrous finding that it’s nothing on their end, no problems with telia servers etc etc (even though Ping Plotter constantly points to Several server IP addresses in Switzerland as the main culprit in packet loss. Time in time again reported constantly.

Nope must be a problem with your machine and ISP. It’s never their problem and it never will be.

  34. EU1 (haven’t tried EU2), randomly in more battles (in one game in erlenberg it happened 3x), it was for short time (i think less than 7s, circa 5s)
    intel core i7 3630QM 2,4/3,4 GHz, 8GiB RAM (2x 4GiB 1,6GHz dual channel), nvidia GT 650M (2GiB GDDR5, GPU: 825MHz), chipset Intel HM77

  35. First match I play after starting the game client I can not move my vehicle for between 5 to 10 seconds, turret turns, engine sounds –

When it allows me to see my vehicle moving I will be turned round or driven off if I have pressed any keys. So it is responding to my control I just cant see it move.

Always happens in the first match (very occasionally another later on)

  37. Server EU2, several times in random battles in several tanks (both arty and other).

On diffirent maps, mostly from the middle to the end.

What I experience is a drop in fps and ping, to short freezes of a couple of seconds.

I remember one occasion (on the end of the game) were I peeked out to shoot the last enemy. I pulled out, image froze, I clicked anyway and a moment later he was dead and I was a couple of meters further. It seemed like the shot was registered, but not replyed to my client instantly.
