Straight Outta Supertest: T-54 Proto Nerf

Hello everyone,

T-54 First Prototype (furthermore referred to as T-54 Proto) was changed on supertest as such (data for 100 percent crew):

- DPM nerfed from 2005,5 to 1955,4
- reload nerfed from 7,479 to 7,671
- ROF nerfed from 8,022 to 7,821

Currently, the stats look like this:

  3. A loss of 50.1 DPM? Hardly breaking anything, that.

    Edit: did the math and it’s a 2.5% nerf.

  5. Won’t matter, there is just no way 120 frontal plate is gonna be balanced with (presumably) preferential matchmaking.

    They would literally have to nerf its turret to T-43 level to make it remotely viable from a balance perspective.

    • I really wouldn’t count on this thing getting pref-MM, especially since the STA-2 isn’t getting it either.

  6. I think this is actually good news for those who are excited about this tank.If they nerf it it probably means they are trying to give it pref. MM.
    That 175 pene. is so disastrously bad for tier 10…..

    • If T-44 players has to do with 175 pen against t10, then why T-54 proto should not? it is not so bad in other stats compared to T-44. It just needs a little bit more Top speed IMO

      • Well,T-44 is not a premium tank.The main goal of a premium tank is still to grind credits.In tier 10 battles,a tank with 175 pene. has to use gold,plenty of it.
        It’s my personal opinion that it is unacceptable to introduce a premium tank with 175 penetration and force it to play in tier 10 battles,you simply diminish it’s earning potential compared too all the other premiums.
        As a matter of fact I consider that +/-2 MM is a mistake,+/-1 would be much better for everyone.
        Anyway,the tank was UP for tier 10 battles even before,I think by nerfing it they are trying to make it fit for limited MM…

        • The WG doctrine yet is the following: a premium tank can’t be better than it’s free counterpart.
          And if we compare it with t44… the results are clear.

  7. Panther 88 has worse hull but better gun stats from Panther II. T-54 proto seems a little slower but more armored than T-44. STA-2 and STA-1 aren’t very different (can’t remember how they compare).

    All these premiums looks like their nation’s peer but with slight different stats (and a bit worse, like premium should be). I think this is a very good way to make premiums and balance them correctly, rather than complete different designs that are difficult to balance against regular tanks (like E-25).

    • STA-2 is basically STA-1 with it’s second gun. The hull is shaped a bit more like Type 61 so it’s a bit higher, but overall they’re pretty identical.

  8. the armor is way too much, still the type 59 has godly armor amongst mediums, and this thing will have a better hull, and the turret won’t be extremely weak either, and it won’t matter how shitty they’ll nerf the gun to, as the type 59 has a pretty bad gun, but is still considered OP, and it is, as it can kill other mediums easily even without hull-downing, at least IMO

    • A flat 180 mm turret front isn’t all that impressive since the mantlet is the same thickness with nothing behind it, the T-54 lightweight presumably has a better effective turret. The T-34-2 has a better turret as well. It will still be better than the T-44 of course, but the T-44 is a lost cause that get’s by on ridiculously low matchmaking weight.

      It will definitely be overpowered against IS’s and IS-2′s, but then again those tanks are pretty terrible for their own tier when compared to the T29 and Tiger-P who won’t have trouble penetrating this thing’s turret. Tier 7 mediums will suffer, but tier 7 mediums are by average pretty much exp-farms for any good player, unless they load lot’s of gold.

      So, Yes. It will be overpowered compared to the T-44 and T-34-2. But I doubt anyone but tomato’s will fail to penetrate the turret mantlet of this thing. The turret sides are the same as the Tiger II, nice and flat with unimpressive armour so it won’t be a hull-down monster on tier 8 like the Type 59. It isn’t nearly as fast as the Type 59 either.

      Basically, this is like a better version of the current tier 10 FV4202 on tier 8, a turret that isn’t hard to penetrate when you know where to shoot with for it’s tier very good hull armour.

  11. Not nearly enough. Right now it’s above Type 59, which itself is greatly OP, compared to standard T8 meds. But a balanced russian premium tank is the last thing the devs want, who would buy it then ?

    • 180 mm flat turret front is comparable to the near impenetrable 200 mm rounded turret of the type 59? T-34-2 has a better turret than this thing. While the turret is not terrible, The only thing really impressive about this medium is the hull armour. It will outperform the T-34-2 and T-44 when they don’t fire premium, but what doesn’t?

  12. Guys, dont worry about MM, you all can cut down its T9 and T10 mm by playing teambattles tank companies etc..

  13. As long as the armor doesn’t get nerfed (I’m okay with a bit of mobility nerf, but not much), then this is still an instant buy for me.

  14. glad they nerfed it, i might mean it wont get nerfed when it goes live. still and instant buy for me, need a premium med thats fun to play.
