WG EU: …and the “discounts” once again

Hello everyone,

you know that I sometimes criticize WG discount/shop policies and that I didn’t like the fact that they put planes on World of Tanks portal. Well, as you might have guessed, I just LOVE what Wargaming did today:

First, let me start my rant constructive criticism by saying that these discounts are NOT a charity. Discounts (as any discounts really) are a business strategy to sell more product, nothing more, nothing less. Thus, the argument “we didn’t have to give you any discounts, you ungrateful git” are irrelevant, the discounts aren’t there to make me happy, but to make Wargaming money.

With that being said, I consider the shit above pretty nasty. Why? Well, not because WG gives us discounts or because credits sold for real life money are a waste of money, but for following reason:

Wargaming always claimed its target group is not a hardcore gamer, spending hours and hours daily in WoT, but a “daddy”, coming tired home from work, who wants to have fun for a while before he’s off to bed or something (indeed, the playerbase age confirms this, as many people, who are “too old” for games such as Counterstrike play). Such a person however will surely not be informed of the unification of WoWp and WoT accounts in detail. Either such a person will not know about the unification at all, or very vaguely.

In first case (doesn’t know at all), such a person might be misled (possibly intentionally) into thinking “hell, they are offering me this discount on credits on World of Tanks portal, I’ll buy that” – of course, the credits are NOT unified and I am pretty sure WG support will have to solve dozens of “Where are my credits, you suckers!” cases, because they advertised credits for an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT GAME on WoT portal.

In second case (knows only a little), since Wargaming announced the “unification of accounts” earlier, such a person (who probably didn’t study this in detail, if he doesn’t play WoWp) might be misled into thinking credits too are unified. The portal doesn’t offer an explanation, only a link to World of Warplanes portal.

In both cases, there is a clear possibility of the customer being misled and I find this very dishonorable. But wait, there’s more. Check out these AMAZING gift shop discounts!

Simply stunning. I don’t know about you, but I have never been so tempted to buy a tier 8 premium tank before with such an amazing discount. Great job.

    • Next up: Neon Genesis Evangelion Special! 0.000000001% discount on everything!

Sorry about this joke being understandable only for those who watched nge, but I couldn’t stop myself from posting.

        • I watched a little, but not enough to get this. Liked the show though, so I wouldn’t mind an explanation. :)

          • Every time mission control evaluated something (like, dunno… Chances of penetrating AT field with supah lazzor gun, chances of shinji growing a pair) it was always somewhere around 0.00000000000001%. Or lower. :D

  1. Slots are discounted so what the *beep* to you expect them to do? Not discount the slot in the shop package and you can write an article about the rip-off. Discount the tier 8 by 50% to match the slot?

They have discounted something and the price in the shop correctly matched the discount. What the hell is the problem?

    • Are you blind or just a WG ass licker? Who gives a hell if a garage slot is discounted? The price shows only 1€ difference… which is nothing. It’s cheaper to just buy a discounted garage slot ingame…

This new shop layout is basically a giant fail on WG side, since now, you can quickly see how “cheaper” are they really selling things. Basically: anybody can point out a fail whenever something is “discounted”.

  2. Last thing I bought from WG was SU-122-44 and that was a few weeks after it was released so it had a 30% off…. Since that time I haven’t spent a penny on this game. I would love to buy thing but if it had micro transactions something like £2 here… £3 there…. This game hasn’t got much to offer to spend anything more than £10.

  3. In PL shop site it’s also 1%…
but prices are in PLN (zloty), so its really great to see 156,45zł to 154,40zł.. wow.. 2,05zł of happiness. Didn’t know that 1% of 156 is 2… but hey.. it’s WG =p

    FYI: 2zł is 0.5€ =D

    • Look on a bright side – with such a great amount of spare money you can buy yourself a lollipop! :D

  4. the worst thing in my opinion is that they have all these packages scrambled together in the shop. so you have wowp and wot packages mixed up together with little warning that they are for different games.

      • doesn’t change the fact that they shouldn’t even be together in the first place, because they are two completely different games with two slightly overlapping but completely different audiences, no matter what WG tries to make us think.

        • To have a “All games” tab is just ridiculously bad design, or even worst, intentionally bad design.

  5. geez, is this just ranting for the sake of ranting? The shop is most likely automated. So as soon as there is a discount in game (in this case the garage slots), it automatically shows in the premium shop. This -1% is not a fail… it is WG finally having done something right from the start…

I must agree that the way they communicate the WoWp disconts on the WoT page isn’t the most smart way to doing things (nor the fact that there is not a real split between WoT and WoWp in the premium shop), but they actually do send you the money back if you send in a ticket. so the more it happens, the more likely they’ll fix it because it is getting too much a hassle in the current state.

  6. - WG stated a few times, IIRC, that in-game silver won’t be unified
    - even if you don’t know that, in the offer it’s clearly stated that silver is only for WoT (unlike gold), so if you don’t know anything about it, you will at least be careful
    - 1% discount is still a discount and I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t be marked as such

The whole first issue is more like laziness of the customer – if you buy something for 40€, you should know what you’re buying no matter how “lazy” the game is supposed to be – it’s money after all. Buying clearly stated 3M silver for WoWp when you don’t play WoWp at all is just stupid from customer POV.

    • True, but you have to consider the fact WG intentionally aims at people, who do not want to lose time with studying manuals/offers/etc. – as casual as you get.

      • But that’s mostly with the game itself. I really don’t see an issue with money – I mean, imagine similar situation IRL~

You go to a shopping mall, that has a nice boutique line which has assorted fitness store. They are unified in such a sense that one gift card you can use in other, you can return goods in them both, etc. You can browse these stores, try stuff out, etc. You like fitness and you decide to buy a card. And on the card you have clearly written: 500 USD in shops of our brand (= gold) and 500 USD for goods in our boutique.

Then, why would you buy it? It’s clearly written there, slapped in your face. It’s the same brand, true, but if it’s written there, shouldn’t you double-check for your 750 USD (with $250 discount)?

It’s not about the way they handle the discounts (IMO they handle them just about right – I guess most of the customers they have right now don’t want to be slapped with HUGE BLINKING RED LETTERS: “ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO BUY THIS DISCOUNT? IT’S FOR PLANES, Y’KNOW!” every purchase they make) – it’s about the customers who aren’t even basically careful with their money because it’s “just a game” – it’s not. It’s something you buy with your money and you have to approach it like that no matter how “casual” it might seem.

    • Yes, but still this kind of offer can mislead people easly. If one don’t follow every news and remember something about ‘unified account’ which was so advertised by WG can just think that it will fit also WOT (and I bet there are no such things as ‘refund’ in this company, because of they dirty marketing).

Also SS didn’t say that 1% discounts shoundn’t be showed.. he just laught becouse of that enormous cash you can earn from it…don’t be shy.. tell that it is kinda funny =p

      • If you don’t follow every news and just remember something vaguely about unified accounts, shouldn’t you double-check before spending 40€ on that (especially with wording like “3M for WoWp”)? That’s like going into a store, because a friend of a friend said that they might have a discount of 50% on this coat. Would you grab it and just pay for it without double-checking? I don’t think so.

No, it’s not funny. But sorry, I liked Maths while on high school, so…

  7. Mighty Lowe-tracktor is 2% off? Screw you guys, Im going to get it with all my hard ernd munehz!

  8. As a nice alternative, you people can stop being stupid as shit here. Okay, yes, the discount is only 1%, but with a little digging it was discovered to be due to the current Garage Slot discount. So would you rather pay that 1 or 3% extra or not?

One thing I will give you guys is that they should explain their reasoning up front.

As for WG EU… That is a completely different bag of snakes. From what I’ve heard they seem to mess this shit up all the time. However, I’d like it if 30% of FTR’s posts weren’t “WG EU FAIL” to be honest. We’ve all got our complaints with WG of any continent, but I come here to find out news about what is happening in game, like bugs, patches, new tanks being put in, new tanks being considered, and I especially love all of the information on tanks in general.

Just my 2% here, but I think this blog would be even better if we could replace the weekly “WG EU FAIL” or “HALL OF SHAME” articles with information about tanks. Waste of time to chronical every Nazi, racist, or idiot in a game like this.

    • “However, I’d like it if 30% of FTR’s posts weren’t “WG EU FAIL” to be honest.”

Yeah, time to start new series of articles – “WG NA FAIL”, or “WG ASIA FAIL” :D

    • Yeah, I totally agree with darkroom on multiple points. People should just learn to read, instead of yelling at WG after they spent real money or something they didn’t want to. It’s not that there are no huge@ss blue letters, stating that the silver is for World of Warplanes. Feel free to buy things like a brainless zombie, but then won’t be surprised if people treat you like one…

Second, I agree that this anti-WG campaign is… not exciting. It was fun to read one or two articles about some fail that WG made, but nowadays every third post is about some “haha, WG iz stoopid” topic. I loved the constant articles about tanks, upcoming patches, miscellaneous info, but this is just… some celebrity magazine level now.

The hall of shame articles are not even funny, I thought at first that they will be about players who died in a funny/entertaining way, or played so horribly that it warrants a screenie or a replay, but instead it’s just filled with racist babbling and hatemongering. I get that from the news every day, don’t need it on a tank gaming site.

I’m still coming back, but I’ve dropped my daily visits to once every week.

  9. Better check Warthunder beta access packs in .com site and .ru site price differency is well… 49,95EUR and approx 26EUR. :D In comparison WG is real samaritans and fair-players! :D

  10. I dont know how its misleading, the gift shop pretty clearly states that its for warplanes not tanks. And I think that now its no surprise that we get to see discounts for warplanes on the wot site because the surprise calendar is a WG thing not only for wot…

  11. 1% discount shoulndnt be announced as “great offer”, at all, people that whine that this “fail is fail” should consider that a discount or an opportunity chance is actually something thats at least 5%. and considering that the packages itsefl at full price arent even expensive (we re nto talking about buying an ipad or a brand new phone), offering a ONE PERCENT DISCOUNT can be even INSULTING towards the playerbase, and we re not talking about BIG NUMBERS we re talking a 1% off a $50 package. and the like.

    WHAT WHERE THEY THINKING!!??

  12. Ok,

This time i’m not ok with you for all.

The mistake happens to me this morning (luckly it is my birthday…). I was disappointed but a friend says me to look at the offer’s icon.

So i had 1500000 for… WoP… So i make ticket, and i asked for having my money back OR make me have the 1500000 silver on WoT.

Guess what, they put 1m5 on WoT :).

So they now the problem and i think they let some mistake happens and then, are not so bad with us.

  13. In Brazil we call this larceny, and it is a crime.

To achieve economical advantage from someone kept in mistake by misleading information.

And lets agree that Brazil is not the most honesty country in the world….
