Storm talks about 8.11

Source: http://world-of-kwg.livejournal.com/273117.html

Hello everyone,

Storm is asking about the 8.11 test and whether you have any issues with it. From the discussion:

- it’s possible the color of the interface will be changeable (or at least be changed)
- at this moment, the priorities of tank balancing team are as follows:

1) finishing solving the TD issue
2) reviving the LT’s
3) historical battles balance
4) testing and analysing the results of various new features, such as the 720m radius render circle, reducing the visibility (bad weather), tank respawn (mentioned by SerB for historical battles)

- the points above mean that specific vehicles will be dealt with only if they significantly stand out statistically (SS: because the balancing department is busy)

- for now it’s not known yet, how the reviving of the LT class will work
- the 720m render circle is being worked on, will be tested soon
- the Grosstraktor was implemented for “marketing purposes” – Storm doesn’t know what exactly that means and he doesn’t know what will players have to do to obtain it
- the only other existing reworked map to be implemented as a double for now will be Prokhorovka with various “battle fluff” (destroyed guns and such) – and that’s it for now, both Prokhorovka maps will exist in the game at the same time
- the additional effects such as rain and snow can be disabled in the Settings under “Additional effect quality”
- it’s completely possible that TD’s (Object 268 and RhB) will get a nerf of camo bonus after shooting (SS: currently, TD’s have a “class bonus” of not being demasked by shooting, this might change)
- new content for clans is being worked on
- T-54 changes were “nothing critical gameplay-wise”
- some players report graphical glitches in 8.11, Storm said he will investigate
- Storm says it “wouldn’t be bad” if players could see the type of videoadapter used (for systems that have two) in settings
- Storm states (regarding the WT E-100 aim spread nerf), that WT’s aim spread when turning the turret was like zero, this nerf brought it on par with other tank destroyers
- T-54 model was changed to resemble this one (on the photo there is the T-54 with 120mm front armor, this variant is in the game):

1386127067_t54040

- national battles mode will not appear in team battles
- regarding the chance to drop into “national battles”:

With assault and encounter enabled: 20 percent.
With one mode (either assault or encounter) enabled: 30 percent
With no other mode enabled: 40 percent

These numbers might not work correctly on the test server because of the amount of players there

- Storm states that the new interface changes (specifically the crew options) weren’t made “like in mods”, because mods aren’t always the most intuitive and easy to use and it is not WG’s aim to make the interface to resemble mods
- Storm on how “implementing the mods” work: “Someone starts to whine ‘why isn’t this useful feature in the game’ – ok, I evaluate the feature’s usefulness. If it’s good – I’ll send it to be implemented. When implemented, it’s being done independently on any mods. Sometimes it turns out to look the same as the mod feature – sometimes not.”
- regarding the premium tanks that didn’t have their profitability buffed, Storm states that their creditmaking statistics didn’t require it to be buffed
- Storm confirms that the T110E3 and T110E4 did recieve DPM compensation via ROF, but not a complete one (this is intended)

they’re basically making you play these rubbish modes, no matter what they don’t let you play just a nice normal standard battle, 2 bases is enough for me thank you.

        • I think you are drunk.

          Currently there are 3 modes.

Standard with 2 bases, which you have no choice over.

Assault and Encounter with 1 base which you can choose not to play.

Soon there will be also nation battles which play as standard battles with 2 bases but you will also be able to turn off, or avoid by playing Chinese, Japanese, or in mixed platoons.

So nobody is forcing you to play any mode except standard.

        • in case you people don’t understand i’ll say it again.

I’m giving out my questions, opinions and facts, I’m not a “troll” as I have a life. OK!

          • Maybe you are the one who doesn’t understand, that what your wrote is so silly that people think you are trolling… you are claiming that WG is ‘making’ you play these other game modes, yet you can turn off all the game modes you don’t want to play, except the basic 2 base cap/kill one. So don’t get butthurt when you write something stupid and people call you on it, just learn and move on.

  2. How to revive light tanks? They need more space, so bigger maps with more routes (or/and with large open spaces) should do the trick imo.

      • Only if you make a map just slightly bigger with only one additional route. What I have in mind is: at least 1/3-1/2 bigger than now.

With bigger map and more routes to cover initial recon would be critical, so your team can focus on enemy main attack routes instead of covering all possible routes and spreading forces too thin. Also, more space would give lights better chances in combat since they would have more room for maneuvers (try doing circle of death on – let’s say – arctic circle, you have to be really careful in order to not hit some mountain or stuff).

      • Not exactly.. More routes means less lanes being camped by TDs (assuming there aren’t 7 TDs a side -_-), so the chances of immediate death are lessened a little.

Another reason bigger maps would be good for light tanks is that it takes a little more time to get out of the spawning area and into the tactical sniping areas. Light tanks can get out of their spawns quicker than TDs can get out of theirs, allowing the scouts to cover more ground and find better spots to sit and hide in before the TDs can get ready (like they usually are…)

This could indirectly cause less base-camping because good scouts could get better spots if given the opportunity, meaning the opposing team would have to spread out and make sure every lane of approach is accounted for so a pesky scout doesn’t get through and find his way behind your lines.

To make sure that the strategy of (mass team) base-camping is detrimental to the camping team, map design needs to be on-point in such a way that there are superior locations on the map for camping outside of the bases. It would make sense to fight for advantageous locations and then use them rather than to already be in one and stay there.

This is more easily done when map sizes are larger, allowing more room for better, more advantageous locations to be placed that aren’t in the base, but rather plopped in a couple of places inside the middle 1/3 of the map.

      • Fair enough, but that’s not increasing view range, so TDs will have to rely on scouting to have anything to shoot at. It’ll be beneficial for the following types of vehicles:

        -light tanks

-medium tanks (some more than others, but overall it would favor them)

-some heavy tanks (particularly ones that rely on the accuracy of their guns, such as the Germans and the mid-tier French heavies)

-some tank destroyers (same case as the heavies – it favors tank destroyers with accurate guns, but favors ones with accurate guns and good mobility even more)

Surprisingly, the only class that might not be effected is arty, since their advantages are mitigated by disadvantages in this case. True, there’s a larger map with more places to run and hide, and it’s more open, giving better fields of fire, but at the same time it also means more room for the enemy to break through to the rear and kill off the arty. There’s also the fact that some arty, particularly at lower tiers, would no longer have the effective range to cover the entire map, and so they would have to relocate closer to the front lines in order to be effective.

      • Bojan… I actually believe it will make camping versus scouts a lot harder, as a good scout will much more easily penetrate rear areas unseen, and have ‘free’ shots or very nice passive marking – which spells the end for any tank attempting to ambush (ie camp).

    • The problem with scout LT is that they get stationary camo=moving camo, which doesn’t mean much when everything at tier 10 has massive view-ranges.

      • I’d like to see lights have their “detected” parameters changed from the normal 8-10 seconds to like 3-5 seconds. Yes, it would require more spot checks for the server, but there are not that many LT’s out there, so I don’t think the hit would be that large.

    • Without actually buffing LTs or changing maps the best way to revive the LT is to change the way the scout MM works.

I’ve been thinking just lowering the MM spread for scouts by would do the trick. Then LTs could be effective more of the time. EG: only have a +3 tier spread on scouts rather than the current +4. (Tier 8 scouts would see no change, and could be buffed slightly, although I don’t think the AMX or WZ really needs any)

      • New tier 4 scouts (UK, Japanese) have normal MM and that fixed the gameplay for them. I don’t see why it wouldn’t be the same with other scouts.

The point of a scout is to scout. Which means less armor, weaker gun, more speed, more view range/camo.

The problem is obviously that when MM spread is insane, none of these work. Higher tier medium has more armor, better gun, same speed, more view range, same camo. Of course than in such a case light tanks be problematic.

        • Yeah, tier 4 scouts are pretty much redundant ever since wg introduced tier 10 mediums. Well, maybe except t-50. Giving those tanks normal mm spread would definately make their drivers life easier (tier 4 hell anyone? I still have nightmares in which I’m forced to drive stock pz38na in a tier 8 match… T_T).

          • Nono. I love my tier 4 scouts. Best scout tier as they DON’T see tier 9/10, but still get to spot tanks up to 4 tiers above them.

Tier 5 is pretty good too ELC FTW.
Tier 6+ they just become really fast stealthy flankers.

          • What a DERP moment, tier 4 lights never saw tier 10 battles, even before wg decided to implement +2/-2 spread for most tanks iirc. I’m a retard and it’s official.

Still – I’d rather spot in a tier 8 medium than in a tier 4 scout. To hell with newbie hell!

    • Another way to help light tanks is to publish damage on spotting stats. This could be then be factored into efficacy/wn ratings. Currently playing lights so not great for getting good stats so folks don’t play them.

  3. - for now it’s not known yet, how the reviving of the LT class will work
There are some great suggestions by WoTlabs players regarding this. Such as allowing scouts to burn through multiple bushes, and increase their ability to spot over time, allowing scouts to be uniquely allowed to mount certain equipment like optics and binocs. Changing camo/spotting mechanics and values could re-balance them also. Lots of options.

    - the 720m render circle is being worked on, will be tested soon
    Great!
This will probably impact map balance, WG may want to work on this before historical mode.

    - new content for clans is being worked on
More information on this would be interesting.

      • Unfortunately, that’s going to make medium players such as me scout less and be less aggressive even when not scouting. I don’t think that would be a good change overall.

  4. “it’s possible the color of the interface will be changeable (or at least be changed)”
It won’t. Strom is just being sarcastic here. “Можно?” could mean not only “could you?”, “can you?” etc, but also “can I?”. So Storm juse answered the question as if that dude asked permission to change interface color.

  5. Arty nerf – done
    TD nerf – in progress
    LT nerf – planed
    MT nerf – next
non-Soviet HT nerf – the ultimate one
… and all of this will not stop Little Red KV-1S Riding Hoods from whining ;)

      • in WG language “buff” mean “severe nerf” – that’s what I learnt since I started playing this game ;)

        • Ewww, no. “Buff” – you won’t notice any difference; “nerf” -it sucks hard compared to how it was before ; “rebalance” – completely unplayable. :D

  6. - T-54 model was changed to resemble this one (on the photo there is the T-54 with 120mm front armor, this variant is in the game):

so T-54 can do wheelies now?

  7. “(SS: currently, TD’s have a “class bonus” of not being demasked by shooting, this might change)”
This “bonus” is really small, only small caliber TDs can abuse it (T49, Stug, E-25 etc), but better remove it for all TDs right?

  8. - the points above mean that specific vehicles will be dealt with only if they significantly stand out statistically (SS: because the balancing department is busy)

Busy from what? From spending all our money on drugs instead of fucking doing their job?

  9. “- the points above mean that specific vehicles will be dealt with only if they significantly stand out statistically”

Yeah, OP-1S does not stand out at all, everything is fine, move along…

    • They said that one is next when changeable hulls come out. Really the only problems I have with KV-1S is that it retreats fast enough I can’t catch it after it fires, and when I do shoot, the squishy armour it has is fortified by a strong beak that will autobounce you.

Kv-1S WILL keep the gun but lose the speed. It is going to be a different tank. KV-1S hull will be an optional KV-1 hull. That is what they said. I rather like that. Kv-1S is unique for its gun. Keep the gun, but nerf the other unnecessary stats that make it OP.

  10. - it’s completely possible that TD’s (Object 268 and RhB) will get a nerf of camo bonus after shooting (SS: currently, TD’s have a “class bonus” of not being demasked by shooting, this might change)

DON’T touch my E-25! Basically don’t touch small guns, or the game mechanism would be making people play with big guns. (World of One-Shots)
