Windstorm architecture inspired by Ghent

Hello everyone,

two days ago, I recieved an e-mail by a player with the nickname of super_de_boer, who lives in Ghent (Belgium) and claimed that some of the buildings on the Windstorm map were inspired by his home city. I was a bit skeptical at first (since it was earlier uncovered there might be an inspiration by Trondheim and the map is supposed to be in the north), but… well, you be the judge.

This is a building in Windstorm….

And this building is in Ghent, it’s called “Postengebouw” (post office)

  1. Well, it looks much more convincing than that Ensk comparison a while back.. Probably more so than Trondheim as well.

    • Well there’s no need to reinvent the wheel everytime really. The map looks wonderful and authentic (now we know why :p), if copying real-life buildings achieves that goal then they should do it more often. If you check the work of most digital artists you’ll see they heavily use copy and paste of real life photos, because really painting grass or rock textures yourself as opposed to using an image (and of course integrating it well into your work) wont bring anything extra to the final product. Creativity is only needed when your needs can’t satisfied by any existing means.

  2. Well they are just showing off but the artists a WG are doing a outstanding job of creating towns and buildings that that look amazing. Looking forward to Stalingrad. The landscapes, even those views that are off map, can make you want to climb out of the tank, kick of those tanker boots and go for a swim under the waterfall.

That’s one hell of a post office for such a small town.

The RU tanks should be banned from this map because they did not get to Belgium LOL.

    • Ghent was one of the wealthiest european cities in the period when that building was constructed.
And it is “small” only by today’s standards.

      • Yes I know but I meant for the PO building is massive for the size of the map town of Windstorm even for a town hall.

  3. Still no underground V2 factory with a partly collapsed roof forming ramps where tanks can move between levels. With lots of rocket fuel and warheads to explode when hit with stray shots.

  4. Don’t be silly!
Architects and construction workers simply made those buildings as soon as test server went live; and modeled them in real life!

    • Yes I can confirm this, the city of Ghent is a customer of ours. I’ve seen some suspicous uprising of new buildings and the alteration of a few modern ones.
Ghent obviously copying WOT, should we report them?

  5. The first time I played the map the city itself did not really look anything like Throndheim, also those tiny trees in the mountain is the worst I have ever seen.

  6. I live in Ghent as well; This is amazing!
Haha! Having a tank battle in my city feels like fun!
