History of Great Victory, Part 3

Third part of the Wargaming series with Russian veteran memories about the Second World War. This time with former artilleryman Vladimir Vasilievich Borodin, who talks about outwitting the German recon plane Focke-Wulf Fw189, that was guiding German artillery and about fulfilling complicated combat task without taking casualities.

Colonel (ret.) Vladimir Vasilievich Borodin was drafted to the Red Army in August 1942. After finishing the artillery school in 1943, he fought at the South-Western Front, 1st Ukraine Front and 1st Belarus Front. He took part in Odessa, Warsaw and Poznan liberation and he participated in taking Berlin. He started the war as 2ndLt. and ended the war as 1stLt. He was awarded three times with the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class, Order of the Red Star, with Medal for Liberation of Warsaw and Medal for Capture of Berlin.

Please note: This man is a war veteran and a brave soldier, not a Cheka officer, politruk, Stalin’s friend or anything like that. I am strongly suggesting and asking you to leave Stalin, Crimea, Russia bashing and other such crap out of the discussion. He doesn’t deserve it.

  1. SS, you should just close comment section on stuff like this immediately as (if) you post it. Or it’ll eventually end as “STALIN KURWA KATYN, DIE DAMN COMMIES – NO U, US DIPSHIT” style verbal battles. Which is kinda unpleasant for everyone.

    • I hope there won’t. If there are, I will delete them and possibly start handing out RO bans. But I hope it won’t come to that.

      • Good to hear that because amount of hate posted in comments by brainless and uneducated morons is really unbelievable.

      • Sorry that I contributed to the last ramble in the previous part … I tought that people wound understand that common people don’t choose whether they go to war or not if the regime decides.

Really sorry for that one SS

Anyway, the stories of these people are incredible, we young people should learn so much from them to not repeat history.

    • That’s the communist style. Instead of smaller ribbons, like in the US or many other countries, they got a big fat medal for every little campaign, and for a parade, you have to wear them all.

        • So you think this guy goes to the bakery in this outfit? Thinking comes before calling people “moron”, just FYI

      • Yeah because USSR and most communist countries(except Best Korea) do not give out awards like free candy.

      • The difference is that mostly you get a smaller “plate” with a lot of colors on it that represents different medals. Usually they only display the nicest medals and the rest in this colored “plate”. This man doesn’t have one of those and has to wear them instead.

  3. It would have been better to interview one of the surviving German Soldiers, They were unicums, Soviets were YOLOs (in a very very broad sense)

  4. Puting up commie murderers to a blog about computer game. You just have porved SS you and wg are worth each other. The lowest level. Shame on you stalin lover.

    • +1

promoting “brave” history and trashing true Russian Patriotic Software of WarThunder.
remember Belarus is what exactly? and WG Belorussian Spawn and bred company, i don’t believe a word they say, and all their “we support patriotic Russia” is just a marketing crap to their Russian customer, but they don’t give a shit about Russia, they just take you money and launder it via some Cyprus bank they bought.

all in all we should not make jokes on those solider survivors, they survived both stalin & hitler.

    • No, I have a better solution.

For every f*cked up topic SS won’t write a word on blog for a week. That way, nobody will have a chance to f*ck up things.

Edit: Many of FTR’s readers are certified n00bs… Proof? Look for topics about Crimea.

      • even if he does it they are still braindeads who will start a flame war

      • This is internet, not America(most people can’t spell America and it’s actually United States).

          • nope.. wrong mister.. this blog to SS (or the guy who owns the server) so basically you agree the terms of SS which means, he can delete your account, ban your account and so one since it is HIS blog.

  5. I will post this here for good commercial :D

    From WG support(Anthony Orwell)
I asked them about Yugoslavian tanks and response was:

As for the game, we definitely have things in store for you. It may not look like the fan made picture, but we have nice ideas anyway. You will have to wait and see ! ;)

What do you think how cool will be that? :D

    • Why not?
it’s good to hear the veterans stories first hand, regardless of who they are, what country they fought for, or what war they fought in.
      Appy

  6. We, in The Netherlands, have our annual minute of silence for our fallen by tyranny or war in general, it’s unbelievable how NOT quiet it was this year, there were cars and scooters driving down the roads. It really bothers me, that the sacrifice of those people is slowly disappearing from our collective memory.
I’m sorry I had to post something negative in the previous post, it was the sacrifice of these people that helped stop the madness in Western Europe more rapidly, SS please use your blog to post more of these stories, clearly we need to be reminded that if it wasn’t for the ‘ordinary’ soldier and all of his/her pain, we wouldn’t even be able to post comments on this blog to begin with.
My sincere gratitude for all veterans and those who lost everything cannot be expressed in words..

  7. I wonder if he was stronk patriot when fighting or forced, I think no one is too old to be spared how the world has gone sour, they’re not children.

  8. The “specials” got the last comments section closed down before I could comment so here’s one for all the videos. I love seeing stuff like this, especially the one with the nurse, very heartfelt stories about acts of bravery displayed by normal people and rightfully award for their actions. Glad WG made these to commemorate a special moment in their history.

  9. honestly, SS, do you know how hard it is to keep yourself civil and not to spill your guts out? but I respect you and I’ll just radiate my thoughts all ovet the net, it’s wireless, isn’t it :)

  10. At least don’t use the word “liberation”, it’s very unfortunate term to describe what was actually happening with Poland back then.

  11. One of my great grandfathers ended up in German-Nazi concentration camp. The other great grandfather was beaten by ‘brave’ red army soldier, because he didn’t want to give them his bicycle. He lost front teeth, and was seriously beaten. These were regular soldiers from red army, not ‘NKWD’ or ‘Cheka’.

I heard a lot of stories like that, and I really don’t see much difference when looking at Nazi soldier and Red Army soldier. Both sides were murderers and rapists.

This man from that video is old, and I respect him as an elder. But I do not and will not respect any Germany-Nazi or Red Army soldier. These two armies devastated my country and killed my ancestors.

I understand that time passes and we should forgive and move on. But we shouldn’t bring back past and reopen old wounds. Men like this red army soldier should be praised only in his country, not in multi-cultural community.

    • qrak I respect your opinion, but there’s a reason we look back into the past. To learn from it. To see what these men lived through. What hardships they had, and survived. Their lives right now aren’t that great. I can’t imagine how bad their pensions are.

I have no problem with these videos. They are interesting, and I get to see some people who were like my great grandfather, and grandfather/grandmother who were also around during ww2 in ukraine/russia at the time. To see, and hear what they went through gives me a little more insight than what you would find in a book.

At the end of the day. You don’t need to be apart of an army to be a murderer. Since the dawn of time humans have been killing each other over simple things. If it wasn’t a german or russian soldier who killed someone in you family it could be your neighbor who did it. It doesn’t matter since killing is in our blood.

    • By the end of the war, Red Army was bled of the best men and was so short on manpower it drafted criminals and such. Two such “soldiers” tried to steam my grandfather’s horse in Czechoslovakia – their own officer shot them in front of grandfather, because that was the only way to keep the discipline in the unit. That doesn’t change the fact that some of the veterans were real heroes.

  12. How do you distinguish hero from murderer? Apart from obvious cases where criminals were enlisted. Most of the time War Hero is someone who was good at his job. That means, to some extent, killing someones siblings. For his countrymen that person is an hero. But mother crying over her son’s massacred body can see only murderer. I believe that some of these men were real Heroes that saved many lives. But there were probably also victims killed by these ‘heroes’.

I’m from Poland, and I have seen many memorials and places where people were slaughtered by both armies. My grandmother and her sister (aunt?) on many occasions described horrors of the war. Death, starvation, rapes, and omnipresent violence. They also taught me not to hate these two nations for sins of their ancestors. Now, I can understand that these people were fighting for their country, and I respect them as elders. But I have no respect for any German Nazi or Red Army soldier. For me such soldier is oppressor and murderer of my ancestors.

I can understand point of view of the ‘westerners’. For them CCCP was an ally. Inconvenient one, but still an ally. For me and many of my countrymen CCCP is equally bad, or even worse, than Nazi Germany.
