New Tank Spotted in 9.1 Video

Thanks to Slakrrr/Vollketten for noticing, I sure as hell didn’t. Check this out. This appears for a split second at cca 0:46 in the KTTS 0.9.1 video.

A45

Think that’s a Caernarvon? Look again. See the machinegun miniturret in the front? Nope, that’s not a Caernarvon, it’s the A45/FV201 universal tank.

A45 was Caernarvon’s predecessor. It’s basically an early Caernarvon hull, fitted with Centurion Mk.II turret and a 17pdr gun. Very little is definitely known about this tank – there were several variants of the hull. It’s basically a weaker version of the Caernarvon and as such, it’s most likely coming as a tier 7 (or even 8) or so premium tank, most likely a medium tank, since the British tree lacks that particular hightier premium. Technically it’s neither a medium nor a heavy tank, it was supposed to be something inbetween, so it might as well be a medium in the game.

A45 was designed in October 1946 (later it was redesignated to FV201) as a concept of a “universal tank”, because at that time it was thought that Centurion wouldn’t be able to take on some of the duties such as flame tank or flail tank (it did in the end). First prototype of FV201 appeared in 1947, but in the end, to produce the mentioned “specialist” variants would require the tank to be redesigned significantly, which was considered not really worth it and in October 1948, the program was cancelled.

Just a thought – notice that the vehicle in the video is not a HD model. That probably means the model was around for a while now and only now they decided to show it off.

  1. so, either it will be a faster BP with less armor or a slower stock centurion?

  2. “A45 was Caernarvon’s predecessor. It’s basically an early Caernarvon hull,”

If I was to say “prove it!” could you?

    • It’s for illustration to WoT players as to what this roughly is, not a historical treaty on the vehicle :) That’s what you are here for, not me.

      • Saying ” Caernarvon hull” implies that the Caernarvon was a separate design, and not just a stopgap Conqueror hull with a spare Centurion turret whacked on top.

        • so you should say “the A45′s hull was basically the predecessor/prototype of the Conqueror’s hull, which was also used on the stopgap tank Caernarvon”?

          • @Listywould it be much to ask you to write a short summary of what is actually knoe about A45 Carnavaeron and Conquer development?
            Pretty pls!
PS: just a short overview, that is all i ask for!

  3. maybe its part of the plan to replace british tier 10s? (Maybe in the way to push tier 8/9 up to 9/10 and make this one new tier 8)

      • Well, it might be as I suspect: that the britt premium will come in the same patch as the t10 changes.
I’ll just repeat what you said in one Q&A and what Ectar said during the swedish community event: “It will be a good year for the brittish but we have been specifically told to not give any comments”

        • “It will be a good year for the brittish but we have been specifically told to not give any comments”

Maybe they’ll get Bagpipe consumables too.

20% boost on all British Crew skill/perks, but 5% loss of camo rating.

          • …both the British and Scottish will become enraged upon reading that comment.

              • I am British? I never knew that!

In all honesty I have noticed that a lot of people think we are not British which makes me laugh.

          • Bagpipe: active consumable
When activated the skill of the player’s vehicle will increase by 20% for 1 minute. During this time the vehicle’s base camo is reduced by 80% and camo net will be deactivated.
an additional effect is that all enemy vehicles within 100 meters of the player will be stunned for 15 seconds while the crew scrambles for the earplugs.

            • At least in recording bagpipes are less loud and actually sounds good.

I read some anecdotal stories about 2nd El Alamein. That despite continuous barrage on their position, the thing german and italian soldier survivor clearly remember later is sound of bagpipes played by Scottish and Irish regiments.

            • Definition of a gentleman: One who CAN play the bagpipes, but refrains from doing so.

“It will be a good year for the brittish but we have been specifically told to not give any comments” – Secret scandanavian polling shows Scotland will seperate, then lead the way to Scandanavian lifestyle (with chips ofc). Rump UK will inevitably follow. Everyone happy.

    • Really? Pushing the Cearnarvon onto Tier 9 and Conqueror on Tier 10? Those are the two worst ideas anyone could have in regard to “fixing” the T10 fantasy tanks.

P.S.: Hands off my FV215b. It has to stay there because it’s awesome.

  4. My bet is it will be introduced as tier 8 british medium tank. The gun is too good for tier 7 especially with gold ammo.

    • Yes, 17pdr would either result in a tier 7 with normal matchmaking (like AT15A) or a tier 8 with reduced matchmaking.

Would be really nice to have a British premium medium that is faster than the Matilda BP.

        • it’s like the Panther’s 7.5 cm l100, with 15 more alpha but 27 mm less pen and worse accuracy.
I fail to see why it would be OP on a medium.

        • Because British mediums are overtaken by other nations heavy, have worse armor then some lights…. Sure 17pounder will make this tank op more then type59.
Centurion I costs me 60k of free XP, because its absolute shit with 17pounder and pain to play even in elite setup…. Only tank with 17pounder with some fun included is Tog (on tier 6, you know, and far away from any sing of OPnes)

          • Is this when I say that I got my Ace tanker for the Centurion with the stock turret + 17 pounder… with only 5 gold rounds used?
It’s not such a horrible gun… just that it could use another platform if used at t8.

            • Pretty much this. The 17 Pounder is a damn good gun, but it’s usability on a slow platform is highly questionable and I say this as an avid Black Prince lover. It only works there because of the BP’s armor and having it on a 30 to 34 km/h vehicle with Centurion-to-Caernarvon-levels of armor is a terrible prospect.

      • I had choosen 17 pdr gun over 20 pdr back when I was grinding British medium line. Of course I had used a lot of gold shells but it was really fun. So if developers will leave premium tank’s DPM comparable to regular one it will be fun and OP.

    • Thought the same. I’d rather bet my money on an alternative hull, back from when that was a thing in development. Wouldn’t mind getting it as a T7 Premium though.

  5. Well, you know Caernarvon needs a new hull, at least with this miniturret hull people shoot it and you dont lose track+ammo rack+HP… you can lose now only HP+radioman… if they dont add an ammo rack inside lol.

More serious now…. maybe they have a future tier 8 premium??? a way to remove FV4202 and dont give people a free tier 8 premium ala T34???.

    • Fuck removal of FV4202. If it gets un-tier-10ed, at least make it a T8 premium. This vehicle is too awesome to get shoved into the garbage can.

  6. Misson reward tank meaby? If yes I would be happy to grind it rather then the Shit Pershing.

  7. Was going to say. Not happy with putting a weakspot on the top of the tank WG have decided to move it to the chassis of the tank.

Looks like a tier VIII premium to me.

    Ho

    • Would be a terrible T8 Premium, really, unless it gets limited matchmaking to 9 (only when medium) or 8 (when heavy). Nobody would buy it otherwise.

  8. It seems to me a tier 8 premium is the most likely option, as this would maintain the frequent (though by no means universal) thing where premium tanks get something less the best gun of credit tanks at the same tier. (The 17-pdr is the best gun on the Black Prince.)

Though I’d prefer that they make it a medium, I see no reason why WG wouldn’t make it a heavy instead. After all, it’s not like the British line is much better for high-tier heavy trainers (the best available is the tier 6 TOG II*) than medium, and WG has for years seen no reason to fill “holes” in the premium tank offerings. (Note the continuing lack of a high-tier Russian medium, and the lack of even plans for a high-tier US TD.)
