Nvidia New Drivers – WoT Performance Improvement

Thanks to plkJaqenHghar for this one – taken from Reddit discussion

Hello everyone,

a new set of Nvidia drivers is out and it is claimed that they improve the performance of World of Tanks slightly (3-5 FPS or so). Wanna give it a try? Download the newest drivers on the Nvidia page – and let us know whether it worked (some players reported improvement, some did not).

    • Imho, 3-5FPS are even in an area of error, yet alone practically impossible to notice as a change, even if there would be one.

For example, my PC runs WOT on 40-90 FPS totally depending on situation and stuff to render (map, number of tanks, objects and effects in viewrange, etc). So how could you notice 3 more frames per second somewhere if the initial data range is so wide? ;)

      • 5FPS difference in between 25 and 30 is a huge one and certainly noticeable – 25 would be laggy, with 30 being much more smooth. If I’ve had 40-50 average fps as I do, I would love to have the extra 5 FPS in situations it drops down to 20-25.

      • well I can see the difference in 25 and 30 fps.
        cant see in 30 and 35 though… :D

Anyway, those drivers are supposed to improve performance in WoT only for SLI setups.
But they helps a lot in dx11 games, especially in the badly optimized ones.

Improved my Company of Heroes2 fps from 30 to 55 which is HUGE!

      • It probably is an error seeing the update is for sli setups, not single card setups

        • Its not only an update for SLI. They optimized DirectX in general reducing CPU overhead, thus granting more FPS to CPU heavy games (like WoT thanks to 1 core lulz).

  1. I updated yesterday and from what I read while it was loading, it was made mainly for extreme resolutions.
No improvement with a GTX770 so far.

  2. My driver is 337.88 and it has not increased my FPS. That number is steady at 60 FPS.

I have a new rig running an nVidia Titan and I suspect that I can’t get any faster unitl I get a better broadband service. Fibreoptic is due in the next few months and promises to be up to 7 times faster.

    The monitor is a Dell U2713Hm with a native resolution of 2560 x 1440.

My ping was around 200 but since 9.0 it has been up to 230′ish.

  3. in my notebook i hav nvidi 860m graphic card, and i have noticed above mentioned FPS icrease, didn’t know that this was from the drivers as i have have an automatic driver update. HD resolution set 1920*1080, and got now around 50-60 fps on standart graphic setting, before it was around 45-55 fps

  4. Wot is listed under 2560×1400 and SLI, so I guess you need to run SLI or 2560×1400 to see any changes.

  5. I cant really say i have 5 fps more or something. Thats just something i would not notice, because for me, WoT is not running at a steady constant FPS. Instead it jumps up and down pretty much all the time.

What i can, however, say, is that these drivers solved “freezes” for me. With the old ones, the game would run fine for like 5-6 battles and then whenever i turn camera around rapidly, the game freezes horribly (im talking like 2-3 second freezes). I used to have to turn the game off for a while and then it would be fine for like 5 more battles.

Yesterday, with the new drivers, i played about 15 battles in one uninterrupted session and it was always fine. So yeah, if you get huge freezes, try the new drivers…

  6. If by “improvement” you mean “repeated crashes, glitches, and hangs/freezes” then I’d say “yeah” but since that’s just BS I’ll say “NVIDIA screwed up big time”.

Then again, maybe it’s just my new (3rd) router being a bitch, in which case “no there is no improvement and Unicorn Gundam is OP”

  7. AMD also released newest beta drivers today…not had a chance to test if it makes things better but from what i understand the beta is more geared toward Watch Dogs.

    • I have a HP ProBook 4540s, i5-3230M 2.60GHz Ivy Bridge, 4GB RAM, with AMD Radeon HD 7650M 2GB. I have a really big problem, i cant find the right driver for my graphic card…Well, i found it, but im afraid its the same old driver. I have tryed many times to upgrade my driver on AMD site, but i failed each time, couldnt found it. Can someone help me, how can i update my driver..? Regards.

      • if it wasnt laptop Id recommend you to buy graphics card.

        GL with finding drivers.

AMD politics is very strange.. “heres a piece of hardware, do whatever you want with it, we dont care anymore”

last tíme I had amd card, 7990, it took me abot 6 hours to finally find working drivers.
And no, im not pc illiterate. either hdmi didnt work, or it was unserclocked, etc…

switched to gtx 770, no problems ever since.
Im using the card, not trying to troubleshoot it and get it to work.

amd might be cheaper, but its not worth the struggle. Not saying they havent released whql driver for almost a year. i dont give shit about their beta drivers, i paid for the card, why should I test their fucking drivers?

        • What you said is not even relevant.
The guy indeed has a Laptop, and many Laptops cannot use the drivers from the AMD website because some manufacturer actually tells AMD to not allow driver updates using AMD drivers.
Those laptop can only use the drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
In this case only the HP drivers work.

      • Try instal raptr with that you can search for updates. For beta update you need to turn on in ssettings or it won’t search for beta version. Hope i helped

        • Yeah…no beta drivers whatsoever. I think Adrian Chang is right, you cant install drivers from other sources exept HP. witch gives me the driver that hasnt been upgraded ever. This is the last time i buy a laptop…

          But thanks anyway! :)

  8. I can confirm an FPS improvement on my laptop with GT 540M. It is hard to tell the difference, but I’ve noticed that in the places where are less objects the game runs much more smoothly.

  9. No wonders they dissected DirectX to use less CPU power, and well we all know WoT is not really good at optimizing CPU usage. GTX 560Ti (SLI) + i5 2500k @ 4,5 Ghz here, 4-5 fps average increase (tested), + it got rid of some microfreezes. And SLI is working a bit better now, so in the end I enabled it again. At least it doesn’t reduce FPS now, unlike before, and it lets my GPUs stay cooler.

  10. Those who updated from 337.50 beta drivers shouldn’t see a big performance increase because that driver already had the fix for CPU overhead.
The difference is bigger if you actually updated from 335 drivers.

    • Because the Titan really gives a fuck about what the game asks or the requirements …. it is like giving a horse looking for a little water 100 buckets of it.

  11. You all know WG’s partnership with nVidia thus this is nothing more but a marketing opportunity for the later.

Why? Simple, because in a world where everyone complains about low FPS nVidia makes sure that in its release notes adds “5 FPS increase in World of Tanks”.

I’ve always used nVidia graphics cards (with one exception very long time ago when 3DFX existed) and I like what they offer but in my opinion it’s nothing but another attempt to get some new customers for nVidia.
