Hello everyone,
today, we’re going to have a look at something rather exotic – photos from Tehran, courtesy of player Mrdbagh, who visited it and decided to share the photos with us, thank you :)
Sherman ARV apparently
Chieftain
US M1 203mm howitzer
Italian 105mm towed howitzer
Rocket launcher jeep
Jeep with 106mm RR gun
BTR-70
MTLB
BMP-1
Chinese Type 69
40mm AA gun
Chieftain again
T-72M
ZSU-23-4 “Shilka”
T-62
T-55
M113 APC
Nice pictures. The BMP is a BMP-1 though, notice the one-man turret and 73mm gun.
and the Missile Rail
Fixed, thank you.
Sherman based recovery is a M47A3…they were POST War build version based on M4A3 hulls and converted in New York by Bowen McLaughlin in 1952, they were converted in 1953.
A version of the M74A3 was also converted by Rock Island, these were based on the old M32B3, ordered in 1958.
the missile launcher on a lorry, above the M113, is that a W50?
I am not sure. It was just this picture and I really can’t identify it just by that.
This is some version of BM-21 on ZIL-131, only with one row removed (likely an Arab modification).
If i am correct, this set is called 9P138.
PS: i found that they did a local copy with 30 rockets, called HMxx, only on different vehicle http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YdsJDz4fiZI/Tn5rR9ATFNI/AAAAAAAAAR0/YsGuksvrmFE/s1600/n00044095-r-b-023.jpg
And the one we have here is definitely a ZIL, so this is some kind of cross-breed. And judging by no lauchers spacing, original Russian – either sold that way as cheapo export, or modified locally indeed.
hello silentstalker,
it is a Katyusha30(122mm Rocket launcher) made in “islamic republic of Iran”
I am almost completely sure it is a W50 Truck. [not surprising, as it played a big role in support on both sides during the 80-88 first Gulf War]
Though I have never heard of it being equipped with a MLRS. Unfortunately I am not able to find any other pictures.
Look ant the fender, this is definitely 6×6 chassis and all the details screem “Russian” to me.
PS: you are right, cabin is IFA W50, i’m not sure about the undercarriage – the picture looks short but somehow it suggests 6×6. A hybrid? If we had some more, this could be solved…
PS2: it may explain 30launchers only, though – because of 4×4 or even 2×4 they had to lessen the load.
Really nice pics :)
Indeed. Much thanks to Mrdbagh and SS for sharing the infos.
Ditto from here.
An interesting collection. Thanks for sharing.
Wow oh wow. Thats where my type 59 went!
English : Hi, I’m an Iranian. Hopefully these tanks also come World Of Tanks
Persian: سلام من خودم ایرانی هستم . امیدوارم این تانک ها به ورلد اف تنکس هم بیاد
I don’t think they will, T72 is too modern T62 is already there is only one potential tank and that is chieftain.
:)
داش این تانکا که ایرانی نیستن فقط وزارت دفاع اینارو گرفته از روشون کپی زده.
Can you please stop writing worms and at least use google translate to post here? You know, just in respect for this blog, it being ENGLISH translation…
i just tell my friends this tanks not made in iran :)
هذه الكلمات هي فقط لإزعاجك يا صديقي.
Translation: Эти слова они просто чтобы беспокоить вас еще немного.
hi
i live in iran and i just watch some pictures of chiftain but its absolutely nice pictures from my country .i am sure my countrie’s defence departemans has copied this tanks by a lot XD
What a mix of Soviet and NATO hardware. o_O)
Are the nato vehicles there “war trophies”?
Why should they? Iran was an important ally back then, before the revolution. You know, they are the only country besides USA that got F-14; imagine that as similar to buying Raptors now…
most of these vehicles was trophies from NATO in IRAN’s “8 Years The Holy Defense” and repaired and added to defence departments . they also improved this vahicles and uses in Defence against Iraq :
Iranian chiftain :

Defence departments also reworked this tanks :
this is reworked chiftain and known as Zulfaghar :

and THIS one,

or this
http://www.thewire.com/global/2013/02/iran-jet-photoshop/62054/
This is pretty comical. Putting aside how silly and funny it seems at the beginning it becomes pretty obvious that what thewire is doing is a pathetic and comical attempt at ridiculing another countries tech.
Gathering information from a very small radio station that noone cares about alongside making fun of what could essentially be (and most probably is) a early mockup plane? That is pretty darn pathetic if you ask me.
Although I sincerely doubt Iran could make any extremely modern fighter jets.
comical attempt at ridiculing another countries tech
What “Tech” ?, maybe the ability to lay fiberglass sheet.
Its what they feed their blinded public, lies, lies, pathetic lies like this and the other fakes like the “aircraft carrier”.
No, the NATO equipment would have been supplied to Iran before the Revolution.
The Chinese equipment I assume was supplied with Pakistan’s help?
yes not before of revolution .
chines vahicles like Type 59 was bought from china .
No, they date back to before the revolution (1979) when Iran was NATOs number 1 ally in the region.
Very nice. My father drove M113s for the US 1st infantry’s mechanized division on the DMZ in Korea (he got lucky and went there instead of Nam), so its always nice to see those.
Isn’t it jordanian Khalid, instead of Chieftain?
Iran had a large number of Chieftain Mk5s and modified Chieftains called Shir 2.
That is a BTR 60 not BTR 70, the BTR 70 has 2 step ups between the first pair and last pair of wheels, between the middle pair there is a two piece door. The BTR 60 as pictured has three step ups, one between each pair of wheels
Holy Defense! xD made me chuckle
if u ever read what happened in holy defense u will cry …
that war … against the whole area’s countries ! Iran had captive from germans in that defense !!!
did u ever see our beesat bridge (پل بعثت) how was made for accessing to iraq? u just sit after your computer and watching youtube and so what u have done for your country ?
Yeah, everything claiming to be “holy” and based on religious crap, bring tears to my eyes, don’t worry…
Rational individuals shouldn’t be mad at what the mentally impaired say.
And if you think I said that based on your belief, then my statement stands.
Why should Germans fight against Iranians, they are both aryan nations?
(Iran = Land of the Aryans)
Besides, no war is holy.
Don’t know where you got holy war from this but ok…
Psst Holy defense could mean anything. It’s best not to jump at ridiculous conclusions without knowing the context.
Also that was a really shitty pun. the word Aryan is used differently between the Iranians and the Nazis. Aryan just means Iranian in Iranian literature. Iran = land of the Iranians.
Two completely different meanings and usages.
Actually, its exactly the same meaning. The Nazis believed the Nordic master race of their fantasies created the Aryan cultures as far as Iran (i.e. ancient Persia) and even India. In their crazy racial purity pseudo religeon they thought that the people in these places were tall blonde white dudes when they had their respective cultural golden ages and that the fall of these civilisations was due to racial mixing with lesser peoples. Using this they could convince themselves that the master race was responsible for everything good mankind ever did and paint Germany/Scandinavia as the last place this race remained pure.
They really were batshit crazy.
“Jeep with 106mm RR gun”
Since RR means Recoilless Rifle, i think the word ‘gun’ isnt really in place here ;-)
The “Italian 105mm towed howitzer” is in fact an OTO-Melara Mod 56 or L5 Pack Howitzer. Designed to be broken down into 12 parts and reassembled in 12 minutes. No it wasn’t particularly robust. When I fired them they would fall apart after a few rounds.
for light infantry, mountain, and para use?
That Rocket launcher jeep looks adorable.
