WoT Medal Inspired by Deviantart

Hello everyone,

thanks to Velio Andreev for this one. So, we have this nice new shiny medal for the Twilight of Gods – the “Head of Fenrir”:

It seems that the medal art was actually inspired by a Deviantart user Gloom82 – check this out, this is his impression of the Fenrir wolf from norse mythology.

I don’t know about you, but I think the inspiration is kinda clear. Still… it’s a really nice picture, I can see why the Wargaming people became inspired by it, the (original) artist is obviously talented.

  1. If you ask me, it is kinda lame to use inspiration this way. They basically redrawn someone’s design and it is theirs? It may not be illegal, but I find this ethically wrong.

      • Damn, coupled with all the other art thefts we’ve uncovered over the years it looks like WG’s art department consist of art-thieves and photoshoppers.

I wonder how much other stuff they’ve also not done themselves…

      • There is 87% chance that they are Belorussians.
Why do you still keep playing the game or come to the blog related to the game if they are thiefs?

Either stop bitching or stop playing the WoT and gtfo to WTGF.

        • WOT isn’t a fucking political party. You can disapprove of their art department breaking the law and play a game.

          • Totally agree with you if you keep it to their department. But if some idiots connect nationality to it then i feel strong urge to react.

        • ad.1 “Belo-russians” you get it?
          ad.2 because I can.
ad.3 and who the fck you are to give me orders you pesant?

          • It would be same as calling people from austrian germans or people from netherlands germans. they perhaps share the same ancestors but are different nations nowadays.

because only massive lack of intelligence would be needed to continue playing game made by people (company, country) you hate so much. as siemka player you can be a good addition to WT community.

and yet you still share the same slavic roots and genes so you got more in common with them bastard russians than you would like to admit to yourself.

    • Wow, nice photoshop job. Notice how the text in that picture is mirrored and the wolf head is more detailed than the rest? That’s because it’s not a zoomed in copy of the medal’s image. Someone zoomed it in and flipped it, then photoshopped the original artist’s wolf’s head on top.

This is what the medal actually looks like zoomed in.

Now, all that being said? I agree that this is more than “inspired by” and I sure hope the artist got asked/paid.

      • Yeah, I just overlaid the medal image onto the artist’s picture to show how the outline and many of the details match up almost perfectly (aside from the ‘snake’ and some of the detail lines around that area).

Maybe a gif with a fade transition would have worked better.

        • Oh okay, yeah.

I bet if we scaled down the original image to the same resolution as the medal, it would look the same.

  2. Gloom82 did the same thing the drawing is based on game of thrones it is the stark family crest the direwolf which was redrawn by Gloom82.

  3. There is, luckily, laws allowing artists to use copyrighted art as inspiration. As long as enough effort is put into making both art pieces critically different, you’re fine. Like taking a picture and heavily reworking it to insert it into a medal. You can see where the inspiration comes from, but there is no denying an artist’s rendition of a mythical creature in a pseudo realist manner is inherently different from the image of a medal depicting said mythical creature rendered in a metalic texture. Even if it’s obvious the first piece of artwork was used as a base for the second.
