  2. Realistic sounds is worthless if it sounds like shit for a game. Entertainment in sound 》 realism. Not like headphones or speakers have the dynamic range and output to recreate sounds of that magnitude.

      • He has a point though. It’s always entertainment over realism. Look at the movies for example. Same thing with sound happens there too. Not because people making movies have no idea how to produce realistic sounds, but because the average audience wouldn’t enjoy it as much as the “enhanced” sounds.

        • The thing is, nice and “big” sounds are much easier to make. Take movies, some nice YT footage, play with audios software… done. It might take a bit, but you don’t have to leave your house.

          If you want a historical sounds, you will have quite some issues, because the best option is to go and record your own sounds – and which modder can do that?

          So I prefer the option where WG makes historical sounds (because they have the means – recording tech, connections, money) and modders do “epic” sounds (because they have the time to polish them).

          It’s better than the other way around, where the historical sounds would greatly suffer.

    • I hope sounds mods like Gnofather’s will still work with this new patch. I don’t like the current sounds and I don’t like the new ones either….

      In fact, in this game, I don’t know… the tanks look a bit like toys. I think it’s tied to some errors with the environnement scaling, maybe a lack of dust and smoke… everything is too clean and those new “plop” sounds are not helping.

      • They don’t really sound like real guns. At least not the 100mm(I have fired dozens of 105mm rounds, and they should sound roughly the same no? Well they don’t). Also Some of the smaller calibers, I have heard 20mm autocannons fire several times, does not sound like that,

      • Ex-army, ARV/Bergepanzer driver, the Norwegian Armored batalion (Panserbataljonen). I believe I’ve spent more time around cannons of various calibers than most game developers…

    • Nerf to the turret front armour (no armour behind the mantlet) and less armour on the lower plate.

      I wonder if E8 will get any buffs to compensate for weaker armour.

        • It will become terrible, just like M4 Sherman when it was reworked to HD (additional nerf to aim time and reload did NOT help). Why can’t we have not-7+-tier mediums with good turret armor? :( And no, M4A3E2 doesn’t count, for all purposes it’s a heavy :P.

          • Type 58 and T-34-85 have OK turret armor…
            I got Steel Wall in Type 58 by abusing the turret and getting a few lucky bounces off my rear.

    • Artillery needs buff? First rework retarded satelite system, so it will not more depend on luck, pressing around a full-speed light/med and hoping it will hit. There are too many perfect shoots in this game, and this is the reason why artilery is unbalanced as hell. Accuracy doesn’t mean much, becasue the circle is already so big, that non-perfect shots have really small chance to hit anything.

      • Those “Perfect Shots” are because morons drive in a straight line ANYONE can lead a target and allow for travel time and hit a moving target EVEN Artillery in REAL LIFE. Don’t want to get hit? Then don’t drive in straight lines, easy as that use some common sense. Also don’t sit still and trade shots with enemy targets and pull behind cover when you reload, no cover around then still don’t sit still move slightly and in irregular patterns this not only makes it harder for arty to hit you but for the enemy to aim at weak spots, again use common sense. But since common sense eludes you continue to sit still in the open and drive in straight lines and wonder why you get hit.

        • Those advices are correct for a fast medium or any tank with good acceleration , and low profile, and enough luck to not get shot anyway…

          For any other tank, if you don’t want to get shot by arty, hug a big rock and camp or stay faar away from action to not get spotted. And camp.
          Or go in an arty-safe corridor and face brawling heavies head-on.
          Or take the risk anyway, try your luck and hope arty is aiming somewhere else…

        • This! I rarely get one shot by arty unless I do something stupid. Don’t be predictable in your movements. I get derped or ammo racked way more than arty one shot.

    • More like arty needs overhaul than buff. It would actually need to be removed, but since it’s here to stay it needs redesign. And only then a buff or nerf to put it on a certain performance level.

  9. Gun sound is historical. It is very friendly to me. I was in army, I shot the K2 Assault Riffle, Threw the grenade, Heard 155mm gun sound.

    Real gun sound is not wonderful. It is dry. Very Dry.

    • Exactly, guns, especially cannons, are more of a dull “krack”, from the high pressure gasses escaping rapidly.

    • Ex-army here as well, and my experiences completely contradicts yours.

      Whenever our closest neighbours, the artilleri-batalion, set to work with their M109′s it sounded like a very close strike of thunder, not like pea shooters.

      • Fired dozens of 105mm rounds in my life, heard arty near me(shit had arty fall on me, but mortars not howitzers) and had autocannons fire near me. The ones I heard and the closest ones to them in the video posted by SS sound nothing alike.

        The thing is though, the main gun in a tank sounds very different from different crew posts- gunner and loader quite similar, but commander if he has head out(which he does alot of the time) gets a different sound, and driver lol…Most of the rounds I heard were from the gunners chair or from the commanders hatch. And did not sound like that 100mm.

      • Well, that’s BS… because as you may know EU is not just one big country, but lots off, so the principle of bringing in the tank at the same time as the movie arrives is senseless.
        Some countries get the movie in october, some in november, my country in january….
        If WG releases the tank in october, then I still get the tank earlier as I see the movie…
        Seriously… they should sell the tank right now….

  10. It may be “realistic” if those guns were “historically” used to fire blank shots under water, because that’s what they sound like. At least the low caliber autocannons sound kinda cool, another good reason as any to love my Luchs.

    Yeah, right… who would REALLY like sounds that are about as impressive as the sound of airsoft guns? current ones are okay, but the new ones? plz dont.
    You can tell me what you want, but every potato gun is louder than those 183mm gun sounds of 9.4. this is definitely not realistic… i watched quite a few tank videos to compare, and even though some are not as loud as expected, they are ALL louder than those 9.4 sounds… especially when you stand close to the tank.

    I haven’t used any sound mods so far, but if they really go with those 9.4 sounds i really hope i can get some mod… really anything is better than that.

    I was playing normally in my Jumbo, we have just crushed enemies on Ruinberg Encounter – I’ve got two last kills after flanking two PZ III/IV. Anyway, the last tank exploded and blamo – server gets disconnected, the game is still running, just got thrown to the login screen, with that window message.

    If that matters, I am playing with a disabled chat (was playing that game, sometimes I re-enable it during gameplay, but not during this one), and I’ve pinged the map twice during that match.

    So, WTF? Any ideas? I’ve searched a little and just inconclusive info and people guessing. Will now google transalte the result in Russian.

    In 8.6 when artillery got nerfed every one of the low to mid tier German arty (Tier II the then Bison all the way up to and including the G.W. Panther) got a secret mobility nerf (horsepower, traverse, and or top speed) that was NOT in ANY of the patch notes. The secret mobility nerf is the only thing I want fixed and I’d be fine with the arty the way it is currently. Also it’d be nice if RNG didn’t dictate whether arty has a good game or bad game as it takes any level of skill out of playing it and YES despite what many of you think it DOES require skill to be effective while playing artillery.

    • Probably a guy who can’t hit anything from one of the well known, classic, never moving arty position. Everybody knows roughly where he is so everybody can hide from his shots, he attacks targets at 900+meters so his reticle is the size of a planet, and he never ever ever relocates so enemy scouts can find him easily.

      Poor guy, I’d be sad too.

    Sounds doesn’t sound THAT bad, but it certainly isn’t a good job. I would still prefer the old/current ones. First of all high caliber guns sound TERRIBLE and second of all every gun from each nation, from each tank of the same caliber range sounds exactly the same!!!! That is bullshit and biggest issue for me. Everything just sounds the same and you can’t tell whether an E-100 fired its 150mm gun or a KT fired its 105mm gun. Overall i don’t like them very much and would prefer current sounds. And it’s beyond my understanding why the hell they can’t record something that actually sounds good and i’m not talking about Hollywood sounds.

    • That’s right ! I use sounds mods like gnomefather’s also because they allow you to know EXACTLY what gun is firing around you.

    • I do not think that WG understands the importnce of sound as an additional battle awareness parameter… They not only should sound good, but also give you indication of the caliber that just shot. Useful in many situations, especially when you do not see the enemy directly (behind a house e.g.), or have other things in you mind than to focus on what gun that particular tank has (upgraded or not). etc. The larger the gun is the larger the boom should be, it is not the rocket science, is it?

    • And heavy tanks with good accuracy, also mediums and scouts with good long range guns. In fact, let’s go for a complete nerf of the game itself.
      Why not make view range 50m and if you don’t move for 2 seconds you explode?
