Insider Talks: A Dev Got Fired

Hello everyone,

a fresh batch of info from the Insider: apparently, a Wargaming developer *name redacted* (but it was one of those guys, participating in the skill MM discussion) got fired. The official reason for his removal was “ineptitude”.

The word was however, that he was screwing around with some models and was responsible for example for the “hole” in Panzer 38t armor from a while ago. Whether he did that intentionally or just because he was an idiot was not known. The Insider however thinks that we will see a lot less buggy models from now on.

  1. if they start firing people for “ineptitude”, they will run out of employees soon …

        • I have my issues with WoT, just like everybody else, but I don’t consider their developers to be inept. Coding a piece of complex software like the match maker requires a high level of competence, specially since I’ve seen the Russian approach to software development.

          • Wow, there are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many things to say on this topic, lol.

But alas I will keep it to the point for once. I don’t belive “one” person could be responsible for a failed model.

Will one person get blamed, oh yea, but if your running a system that is supposedly totally overworked, then ONE dev is not responsible.

One Group, or the head of model Development, Yea. That guy is supposed to be supervising the Quality Control as well as various other support infrastructure so that the Combined group can create, test, modify, then re test…..

So to say to us that this one guy will change all the “buggy” models is just insulting to us.

Or you guys are completely inept and probably fired him because he called you on it.

    • I agree.

WarGaming technological division devs are second rate compared to 4A/GSC/Crytek’s … despite much higher budget.

They are not moronic retards like Ubisoft … but they are close.

    • The word used is “developer”.
He could have done anything from making concept art, to network programming.

Also, a designer could mess around with the collision model. They aren’t as detailed at the visual models, and with the right tools, changing/removing panes of a model could be done quite easily.
My humble experience from Ray Supreme, the 3D modeling software. Dicked around one day, and removed the backrest of the chair I was making.

      • If he is being blamed for the hole in the Pz38t then he is a designer/modeller. I work with 3DSMax on a semi regular basis and it is very easy to fuck up when you have thousands of polygons. You need a high level of attention to detail and a lot of testing to get rid of holes in the model.

        • Im sure its not easy and mistakes can happen, but isn’t there someone to check each others work? and then to say that getting rid of this ‘one’ guy will change all the buggy models, to me, is pure bs.

If your system is so fail that one guy can create all these issues then your system isn’t going to fix itself once the ‘one’ guy is gone. Obviously your system has some serious quality control issues.

Like it really matters what we think anyways, right?

  2. You don’t fire somebody for a single mistake, like that hole in the Pz38t. You fire him/her if his/her work does not meet the quality required. If your insider believes that we will see a lot less buggy models, then is very likely that this dev was the source of most of the problems.

  3. Plot Twist: He was hired by Gaijin to tinker with Wargaming’s models.

Not that Wargaming needs any help messing up stuff anyway :))

    • WT:GF has been quite a failure so far, it is be very possible that Gaijin would try to create disatisfaction among WG customers. If you can’t create a good product, try to make the competition look worse in comparison.

      • WT:GF is the perfect example about how hard it is to do a simulation software. There are a myriad of things that can, and will, go wrong before you get them right.

  4. Hi Silentstalker just a quick one this article is interesting. You posted the 9.4 sounds mod which has now been taken down I assume because people couldn’t load in I stupidly forgot to backup the files is it possible to put up a post which has the old audio files for people that messed up like me and cant play. I cant redownload the game at present so im kind of stuck.

  5. I kinda feel like this is just WG blaming someone.

If i would read this before XX.12.13 [DD.MM.YY]
I would believe but not now.

    • Well, they are in the process of creating and internally testing the new British line that is supposed to come in 9.5, maybe they just found too many other screw ups from this guy there and now put a stop to it once and for all

  6. In WoT the test department in general is quite inept.

Every new test version they release there are very easy-to-fix visual bugs reported, but very seldom are they fixed in time for the final version. Usually the bug lags for one or two more patches before they fix them, when they actually shouldn’t have made it to a public version due to its obviousness.

The Hellcat HD tracks in last patch, for example. How such an obvious glitch wasn’t corrected before the test version is incredible.

    • Deadlines are a major culprit. You have so many issues and their priorities are so different that a graphics glitch may be considered low priority and even released with a “we’ll fix it later” note since it actually does not break the game like other bugs do.

  8. If he was screwing around with the models holes I am sure that is why he got fired.

  9. Fired over matchmaker ineptitude (or I suppose it was just a side note that he was in that discussion if the problem was in modeling, but whatever)? Cool. Can they also fire the guys who think it’s acceptable for matches to span 3 tiers, as if a tier 3 in a tier 5 match or a tier 4 in a tier 6 match (for example) is a valid idea? All it does is stress people out and waste their time when they are low tier. Tiers 3-4 are especially useless as this happens far too often.

I know WG have said multiple times that they weren’t going to change (fix) this, but that is unacceptable.

  10. I wonder if they’ll ever fire the guy who sells all the codes on fleabay..
I know I have seen the one account that shifts over 600$ worth of codes a month, that has to be someone internal who is helping!
