WG Policy Change: No More Gold for Existing Tanks

Please note that this policy seems to apply only to bonus codes specifically.

Hello everyone,

looks like an interesting policy change took place on RU server (given the nature of the change, it’s fully expected to happen on other servers as well).

Basically, if you have a premium tank in your garage and get another one (for example by bonus code, or you win it in some event like the TOG we had not long ago), you will not be compensated with the tank’s price in gold anymore. Instead, you will recieve credits, using the ratio of 1:400.

An example: if you have a tank worth 1000 gold in your garage and get another one (for example by bonus code), you will instead of 1000 gold now get 400k credits. But if you bought the 1000 gold tank again in the premium shop, you’d get 1000 gold.

Discounts still apply as before, eg. if you were to get the 1000 gold mentioned in the example above and the tank was on 50 percent discount from an event, a bundle and such, you would get only 50 percent compensation (eg. 200k).

  8. Meh, Russia still sucks, have fun with the new sanctions. Before someone goes and say “but Belorussia is not Russia”, may I remind them that Russia is in the name, as well as in the heart and soul of these people. I wasn’t planning on getting any gifts, tanks, codes whatever anyways. I’ll stick to 2-3 games a month in tier 4-5-6 and I’ll call it quits.

    This policy does not affect players like me at all. I have no intention in buying anything ever again anyways. Not from a company that has that fuckwit Sergay handle communications, trolling players and customer like that, nowhere in the civilized world would this work.

  9. Bad decision for players, good decision for greedy WG.

    Gold compensation for premium tank which I already have was a good reason to participate in missions for premium tanks. Gold could be used in a different way … Ok, another reason to wait for Armored Warfare. Competition is basically good for players’ real money.

    WG is still working on the WoT cash-cow …

  10. That should make the decision whether to do the various mission easier, no more slogging away to get a tank you already have, like i did with the SuperPershing and TOG (ok the TOG one was easy) just for the goldz…

          Quitting ain’t as easy as it sounds, after spending so much time on it most just keep going knowing it is killing their time.

          But there is another catch to it, get out onceand dont play for 3-4 months and you realise juat how much more time you have for other things.

      • But “earning” things in missions is more fun and fun is what playing games is about regardless if you have a job or not.

      • I have a proper job thanks, it was a nice way to get free gold, i obviously already had the premiums bought – with my hard earned cash from my ‘proper’ job, this was just a nice bonus occasionally…

  11. Well there goes one of the better methods of getting gold. That’s rather unfortunate.

    Not going to immediately condemn it, though, as I do not know the economy business side of it. For all we know it could be harshly costing them. With WoT’s growth slowing, they no doubt need to be more wary over stuff like this. (Same with FV4202)

    • Exactly. Judging by this decision, the prospect of a more generous variant of the FV4202 case is fading away. Well, be it one way or the other, I found my new favorite tank while grinding 4202 – the tier 9 Centurion. The whole British medium line starting at tier 6 is strong.

    Don’t see anything bad about this. Gold is busyness like any other.

    • Indeed. They were nice guys giving away free tanks + free gold. Now they just give away free tanks + free credits.

      What our playerbase does? They complain, of course.

      • I feel so dirty and unworthy now… I confess that I took gifts of free gold and tanks from WG and I confess that I felt good about it. I will try to do better and from now on not to buy any tanks in the game for credits, but only from premium shop for real money as I can afford it. I’ve been such a scumbag…

        • It’s not like we all bought Premium and excessivly played WoT for those tanks (which makes it really ridiculous to say they were for free). People who can’t afford these tanks can’t afford to buy premium and play an excessive amount of time, too. They are not the target of these events and it’s not charity work, it’s just another way to lure players to play this game and to pay money for it.

          I wouldn’t be surprised if they would lose money and players with their new policy. Annoying the active playerbase and especially whales who already bought these premium vehicles but would like to do the mission for “free” gold could be horsetrading.

    • Why such hostility? They were giving you free stuff, now they tell you, they won’t be giving out free gold anymore but free silver instead. It still isn’t bad.

      • Why the hostility? Because fuck them, that’s why. Instead of getting valuable gold, not only will now we be getting hardly-at-all-valuable silver, we’ll be getting it in amounts so comically small they might as well not even bother giving it out at all. Smart use of 10 gold can easily save you 250k in silver by, for example, using it in demounting complex equipment upon selling a tank, giving you 25k per gold – and that doesn’t even touch upon the other ways that gold efficiently converts into silver.

        But nooo, WG will now give you a whole 1.6% of that for it instead. What an amazing deal! We should be celebrating WG’s gracious, playerbase-friendly actions! Why be hostile? We should be thank them because they are still giving us something in their scarcity-in-supply-free game!

    Hopefully it’ll combat people harvesting codes.

    It does stink for ingame missions, but a lot of people should consider the fact that “Individual Missions” will probably soon not offer you missions for tanks that you currently have.

    • I’m behind this change also.

      This opens the WG opportunity to give more missions with reward tanks without giving valuable gold freely just to anybody who happens to own that premium tank already.

      • Friend of mine is getting new laptop and he gets some bonus codes with it. One is for wot which gives you jt88,week premium and like 1000gold

        And since he doesnt play WoT he will give me that code

          otherwise i have already the jg88 and wanted the gold for some other stuff…..otherwise….credits are cheap if you have tier viii premiums so no longer the need to grind all the missions from now on

    • You can still do this, I have entered 2 codes yesterday and I am waiting for my third code today. Some guy from poland is seling in for 29$ on ebay. It is epick deal

    • It would be nice if there could be clarification on this.
      EU is stuck in the middle too, I cant see them doing this on the US server, so who knows what will happen.
      I have no doubt this is down to brute force code scanners, WG still doesn’t take enough action to stop it from happening (but it is a lot better than it was in the past).

      We could ask the EU Staff about it, perhaps they’ll tell us by Christmas – 2015.

      • I can really see them doing this on the US server…over here, every time there’s a month long premium tank event, guess what tank ALWAYS goes on sale the weekend that the event will end, so that owners only get credited for half the gold? Its like clockwork every time.

  24. That sort of destroys the point of doing missions for tanks you already own. For example, let’s say we have a mission for a Jagdtiger88 and you already own one. If you were to do the mission in the Jgtig88,you wild have already gained the 2mill credits it’s worth while doing the mission. Extra credits is nice, but playing 6 hours a day for a month for something you can earn in 3 days? No thank you

  25. One of the main reasons I bothered to play WoT this year were the premium tank missions and the gold I received from doing them because it gave me a reason to log-on and play. Now that has been taken away (credits are worthless)… GJ WG.

    Next time just uninstall your game from my computer if you are trying to stop me playing.

  26. WG is turning into EA. This must be the new Meta in Game-orientated companies. This happens like ones or twice every year, it’s a really special event, and if you have bought the tog and supported the game Before. Why do you not have to get love back? Greedy russians, i’m thinking of moving to Armored warfare as soon as it comes out. Atleast they are not Russians.

  29. Theory: Due to steep price increases gold on RU server is now much more expensive (Ukraine crisis, etc). People don’t spend their gold so easily, so it lasts longer, and events where they give out tanks were a good way for RU players to replenish their gold without spending additional Rubels, but now they have to. Doesn’t mean the same has to come to EU unless EU gold sales are hurting like RU ones do right now, but it sure is a possibility.

  30. as a player of over 3 years of action, a paying customer, i felt outraged when they were giving allot of bullshit gold and free tanks to new players!
    the reason i did the TOG mission was for the fact i could get the gold instead, already had TOG2!
    I am a paying customer, but still cannot afford every shit in the game and every extra gold bonus was a much needed reward!

    this concept is a big minus for WG!

  32. well i have won SP, type 62, TOG II with missions. they were my only prem. tanks.
    after just 7 battle i sold TOG II, for credits and i dont even regret my decission.
    so gold or silver .i will keep selling my missions awarded gold tanks if they dont make silver fast enough,or if they are just a total waste of my time, couse i have enough skilled crews allready..just need all the silver i can get :)

  34. Even though I can understand why would they do such a thing, it’s economical suicide! This could’ve passed easily 2 years ago, but not now because there are more players on the market. The smart thing would be to make things cheaper and easier for players, not more expensive and harder because WoT has been around for 4 years and it’s becoming rapidly boring because there is no innovation whatsoever. The only noticeable changes were increase of cost of T8 medium premium tanks, gold shells for credits and now this which are all fails considering most of the player base but they do earn them a lot of money… I just wonder how long it will last… First big sign of desperation is that offer from few days ago for long inactive players to come back and that’s a smart move but for me it’s a sign not to invest anymore money in this game because it could soon be dead!

  35. Does buying the tank ingame with gold count as premium shop as well or no compensation in this case ?

    • Wait what?!? You would want to buy a premium tank you already own ingame for Gold to get recompensated with Gold? That doesn’t even make sense, let alone it’s impossible, ebcause you can’t buy tanks ingame if you already own them.

      The concept from this post is:

      - Buy a premium tank from the shop for € and if you already own it, get compensated by the ammount of gold the tank costs.

      - Receive a premium tank via code or mission (?) and if you already had it receive it’s credit price as compensation. –> This is new. At the moment you also get gold compensation here. During the TOG mission TOG owners got compensated with 3500 gold when owning the TOG already.

      • My Question was because i bought my T34 ingame for gold as it was 15% off. If there was a mission for the T34 sometime in the future would i get gold or credits that was my question… getting credits would be bad in my opinion because i paid money for the gold…

  38. Well, they need feed the moneyeater monster that is WoWP… and well WoWS for me doesnt looks like a game with a lot future… with AW coming and looking less greedy… well i want see how WG deal with a reduction in incoming and matein 3 games with 1.

    After 4 years WG was unable to gift a good tank to dedicated customers… i dont expect nothing good for WG the problem for them is now if you want play a tank game you can do it out of WOT a game that for me in 2014 lose a lof of value… damn, now to play 2 hours i need be under drugs effect because after play a few battles i find my self playing other games.

  41. ok, now the only way for earning gold is buying premium tanks when in discount and then buying again after discount ends. this could work in low tier premium tanks. especially when %50 discounts on tier 5 tanks (1500 to 750).

    but it seems like they gonna give gold as reward in missions. like incoming 700 gold award in december.

  48. This autumn I bought a premium tank at a discount as I expected that it will be part of a mission some time in a future and could get the full gold price back.

    I’m not sorry about the gold spent on the tank (barely played it) but I won’t be doing this, at some point I planned to buy all the premium tanks in the game discounted hoping to get their full gold price back. Plan cancelled.

    On the other hand, there’s a lot of free gold in this game, I give you that, I’ve spent about 40 euros buying gold since i started playing (1.5 years) and the gold currently in my account is equivalent to 33 euros. I also have 5 tier 5+ premium tanks.

  49. I got to the point about a year ago where I realised I had all the tanks I wanted and could play well enough that premium wasn’t necessary. I could farm missions for gold and credits and ocassionaly prem tanks without even playing excessivley.

    Since that point I have seen WG slowly take measures to make this more difficult to sustain your accout. I am certain as their revenue tails off that this will get even harder and they will make buying gold/prem necessary again. This is just anothdr change in that direction and I expect more to come.

  50. This is complete and utter horseshit. 400 silver for 1 piece of gold was always a bad joke, the very least they could do is offer a less fuck-you-over conversion rate on this.

    • Also, let’s not forget that they STILL apply the discounts even to the pittance amounts of silver they give in order to further fuck us over.

  54. It’s not about mission/event prizes, it’s ONLY about tanks from codes.
    Intel resellers got code generators not codes and too many JT88s appeared on market.

    • This would be nice if true. If it comes into being before this weekend’s event is over, it WILL screw me out of 425 gold (I have one of those codes for T-127 + garage space + 3 days of premium and wanted to buy a T-127 this weekend and use the code right after), but I can live with it.

      Without official word of clarification, this being scumbag WG, I think it’s fair to provisionally assume the worst, though.

  55. No point grinding missions for tanks I already have if there’s no gold reward. Even if the reward tank was worth 10m creds, I could easily make way much credits in my Jag88 for the amount of grinding I’d have to do.

    • So WG don’t give you something you already have and they are cheap fucks? I doubt it will affect WG in anyway tbh. Only difference is that now most won’t bother with doing them missions for a tank they already own.

      Tho that said. I have several premiums I have bought with gold I got back. Most of my tanks like the SU-100Y “tog gold” SU-122-44 & T-15 “SP gold” and the T34 “IS-6 gold” are “free” tanks to. But most kids over 25 will let it slide in the long run. Kids crying for a type every Twitch stream will go mental over this and don’t give anything back to WG since they don’t get anything. Even tho WG has give en 5 free tanks and 10K gold over the past years and more will come. They are still “cheap”. Considering that 16 of my 30 premium tanks are rewards, gift tanks, tanks bought for gold that I got in return or bought with gold I won on WG events. I’m not gonna complain. WG will still give you more then enough free stuff to make the greedy gits happy later. Just relax.

      You should be happy you can get premium tanks for free at all in this game. Even if you have if form before.

  57. This change was surely caused by JT 8.8 bonus codes case. In Poland I was able to get the codes for around 23$ per one. The cheapest offer I found was for 19$. Combined with fact I already had JT in garage I purchased and used all the possible 4 codes for one account. I got over 40k gold for half the price I would have to pay in a normal way. I’m sure a lot of people did the same and now WG is angry, because they lost money. Now they want to prevent such situation in the future.

    • Yeah, I am glad that just today the last 2 bonus codes for the JT88 arrived :-) So now I have the JT88 plus 34k gold for less than 90 EUR… A pity that you can only redeem the same bonus package 4 times… LOL
      For all EU server players: ten minutes ago it was still possible to redeem bonus codes and get the premium you already had converted to G O L D. So hurry folks, hurry.

  60. That also mean that player with the premium tanks will have way less incentives to actually play the game when his premium will be available as a reward. Unless they are starving for silver credits anyway
