The Insider Talks: What’s Going On in WG

For the record, this is a different insider than leaked the fake missions for December. So yes, this is legit, I confirmed some parts from several sources.

Here are a few interesting tidbits from the Insider :)

- apparently, Wargaming wants to put the forum reputation into use. To that end, they are considering a list of titles and ranks (like the current “player” under the avatar), from “private” all the way to “general” or something like that. The lowest rank, reserved for players with bad reputation is “donkey” for some reason :) But there are other “titles” as well. Apparently, farming shameful titles will also eventually lead to a ban (SS: logical, as negrep farming often requires breaking forum rules).
- apparently, WoT Generals will get an update soon (SS: but they talked about that months ago already, so who knows)

- some of the developers are sad that Ruinberg on Fire got scrapped, some consider the winter version in 9.5 (“Winterberg”) a bland replacement
- the customer service team (SS: RU server? Unclear) recieved a small poll. It turned out that 90 percent of cases of “the game not working correctly” was due to mundane reasons, such as really bad PC’s and old drivers. There were a couple of cases of people with very expensive PC’s, who have no clue how to operate them. Of the remaining 10 percent, 7 percent were actual game issues and 3 percent of cases were screwups of the customer service, where the employee did it wrong or gave wrong advice
- developers state that in comparison, the other companies’ support service (Bethesda, Blizzard) are more precise and “human”
- developers note about the MMO comparison: “comparing gaming platforms should be abandoned, because MMOs such as Warcraft have a well proven and aging physics engine”
- WG (SS: some time ago, possibly longer time, I heard about this from another source) went as far as to invite players who were having game issues with their PC’s to Minsk to physically come for testing on their respective PC’s. 90 players were issued an invitation, only 4 came (all living in Minsk). Out of these 4 players, 3 had really crappy computers. One hasn’t updated the graphic card drivers in six years. Only one had an actual game issue (the lag between arcade and sniper mode transition), which was fixed ever since. This led the developers to the conclusion that much of the forum rage at “your game is full of bugs” is actually the fault of the players’ PC’s and is just overblown.

    • That means 6 years without a GPU upgrade. And normally such people bought the advertised newest technology PCs with Geforce 6200 graphics cards…

In the German community there are not few people who play the game on several year old notebooks which they bought for less than 400 euros when they were new.
But some are realistic enough to know that their 2-5 fps are caused by their crappy hardware and not by the game.

        • Do not know if this helps, but I am playing WoT on 3 different PC/Laptops.

          1. My PC – Built by me, mainboard Intel Q35, processor E8400 Core2Duo 3GHz, 6 MB cache FSB 1333 – LGA775, memory 4GB DDR2 RAM 1333Mhz, HIS Ati radeon 4670 1024MB/128 bit graphics card, SATA HDD’s
WoT settings: Standard graphics, medium to low, draw distance maximum
          Performance: avg 45-60FPS
          Perfectly playable.

          2. My Laptop – Alienware M17x R1 – Processor Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme 2.53 Ghz, memory 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz, nVidia GTX 280M 2048MB/128bit graphics card, SSD
WoT setings: Improved settings, medium, draw distance maximum
Peformance: avg 40-55FPS (with standard graphics and V-sync off, it can go up to 100FPS)
          Perfectly playable.

          3. Work notebook – Sony Vaio, Processor AMD E-450 1.6Ghz, memory 4GB DDR3 RAM, ATI Radeon HD 6320 1024MB/128bit graphics card, SATA HDD
WoT setting: standard setting, lowest possible, draw distance minimum, performance tweaks, 25% Texture pack, windowed
Performance: 12-25FPS, while sniping from behind bushes 8-12FPS
          Almost enjoyable.

            • That is a pretty highend laptop mate
I run wot with many things on high-max, shadows and a few special effects off, and one or two settings at medium; at a comfortable 30-40 fps.
My laptop has: intel i7-2630QM, 8GB ram, AMD 6850M

If you can’t attain the same level of graphics then something is just wrong with your drivers or other installedd programs (honestly, your system should pretty much max out wot, you just left out your RAM, but I assume its 8GB or more.

              • My desktop has C2Q Q9550, 8GB RAM, GeForce GTX 560 1GB, with WoT installed in a separated old harddisk (250GB, NA + SEA + CT) while Windows 7 is in a SSD.
Most of the graphic settings are at high with some are at maximum, and I got ~30 fps, which I think is pretty good. I guess more vRAM would be a plus.

The connection stability affects my gaming experience more, as I play in NA East server, while living in Hong Kong.

              • Omg I assume something is Wrong with my drivers… Or maybe its just me who cant stand playing at 40 fps… But Thanks for the advise Ill ask to a Friend who knowes more about computers :) btw yes its 8GB but do you play on improved graphics? I once tried to put it on with everything to Low except the texture quality which ive put to max. And i got 30-40 fps with no problem

    • it might mean he re-installed his operating system and forgot to re-upgrade the drivers, and now WG is using that to say “Our game doesn’t suck” although, it could be very likely the re-install was made because the game didn’t work.
      Sounds good for WG though.
I would really like to hear the other side of the story

      • Asus Sabertooth x58 MoBo
        Intel I7 980x 3.33GHz
        Corsair Dominator GT 1866MHz DDR3 6GB
        Asus GTX580 DirectCU II

Running smooth with everything at max. around 70-90 fps.

  1. The game is full of bugs because of players that have early 80s computers and Wargaming cant optimize the game properly anymore for them. If Wargaimng would abandon support for stone age computers and focus on mid to high end PC’s then they can optimize the game properly

      • TF2 engine (source) supports potatoes and nasa computers. I get between 200 and 300 glorious FPS in there, at max graphics settings of course. Meanwhile in WoT there are some places where I get 45 FPS on almost minimum settings.
All in all it’s just WG fault and their shitty software.

      • player not by better pc => no money/not spend on pc => play WoT because is free => no by anything in this “shit game” (because is works so bad so why by).

If u get more shit, only stink more, not make it better.

      • Do you think players with 80s and 90s computers spend money in the game? If they do they are idiots, they should invest in a new PC. The only players that invest in the game are players with mid to high end PCs

    • WG have many why to optimize, one of example is memory (RAM) WoT not check how much is free, and on my PC (16GB) can load all obj. for battle, but it not, so it load in battle and make mini lags.
They should more dynamic optimization so ppl with low end, and hidh pc be satisfied.

      • Yes, because the more ram the better right? Nevermind disk access times, GPU compute power, RAM timings, GPU memory size, GPU memory speed, CPU processing power, cache size, bus speed.
By the way, it doesn’t matter if you have 128gb of ram, WoT is a 32 bit executable.
Gamers are not IT specialists, they’re just whiny idiots.

If negrep farmers get a ban, players with lots of pos reps will maybe get something?

(i can’t find words to comment on this…)

  3. I totally agree about those old computers and drivers, etc.
It does not concern only WOT. I work in IT Administration and have seen zillions of cases, where old hardware/drivers/software or even viruses/malware/other bs is the reason for all the problems. People use their computers without reinstall or updates for 10 years and do wonder, why they are having issues. I always say, that before you blame some application for having bugs, you should try it on a freshly reinstalled system with the most up to date drivers. And only if then problem is still present, you can start to dig in the app direction itself.
In WOT case this is almost always the reason.

P.S. F**k Ruinberg on Fire! The new Winter variant is 10 times better than Fire version and even a little better than the usual one.

    • Reinstalling is not the best solution to fix problems, I have seen “Microsoft Certified” staff who think this is the best course.

The largest problem is usually Heat, followed by poor hardware or software (including drivers).

The way most modern computers work now means that if the heatsink is not working well then the temp goes to high and the hardware will (If it can) throttle down. A lot of people see this sudden slowdown as a issue with games.

WOT does eat a lot of memory usage after long play, but restarting it will clear that. I cant say I have really ever had any major issues with WOT, but there are a lot of poor design choices in the game itself.

Also, the “Most up to date” drivers may not really be the “Best”. If you have no issues then you may not want to update, there was a time when Intel and ATI would actually list the games that had issues with specific drivers and also tell what the fix would be.

If 4 people came, and 25% of them had a “real” problem with the game, then that seems high to me. I guess WG looked at it as 1 out of 90 so the numbers there are not that bad. 1.1% of 3.3 million peak users means that there are less than 40k users who are having issues on a given night…

      • >If 4 people came, and 25% of them had a “real” problem with the game, then that seems high to me.

It’s actually not high at all. It’s a teeeeeny tiny sample size. Assuming this was a truly random sample (it was not, it was biased towards really motivated people who were also local), you can be exactly 95% sure that the rate of WG fuckups to all fuckups is somewhere between 0.631% and 80.588%. 0.64%? Nope. Can’t be 95% sure the real rate is above that. 80%? Also nope, can’t be 95% sure that it’s actually below that. A sample of 4 is miniscule. It’s statistically completely useless data so any result at all would be unsurprising. I used this in making the calculations: tinyurl [dot] com [slash] cgmujby

    • Very true, I format my PC and laptop about once every 14 months or so, just good to start over without a bunch of junk sometimes.

  4. Pingback: Insider: Co nového ve Wargamingu?

  5. I gotta say I’ve never had a bad experience with the customer support, I even received some premium days after they helped me resolve an issue on their side.

Also I prefer the winter variant to ruinberg on fire.

    • Yep, same here. Have had a few queries and it was resolved in a day for me, always friendly, etc. If only the customer support could do this month’s offers…

  6. It might happen that various possible insiders got various versions of placeholder December missions, and WG only waited you to publish them, identifying insider and punishing him.

Customer support is crap – uninstall mods, we can’t pass this to developers, working as intended, we wish you good luck and fuck off.

And turning negrep into something meaningful is retarded – 100 people clan, each one with 5 negreps per day. One unlucky guy can score it all within few moments and bye bye.
IIRC you wrote something about removing negreps on Asia forum because of such bandwagoning.

  7. so im going to get punished for trolling idiots who post anti arty, anti everything threads on the forum………….i know i shouldnt but i cant resist the stupidity of some of the forum users

    talkinjibberish

  8. “farming shameful titles will also eventually lead to a ban (SS: logical, as negrep farming often requires breaking forum rules).”

I disagree with this assessment. I have seen plenty of players getting negative rep simply because they posted statements that don’t follow the general consensus on the forums (say, a positive post about arty or the arty mod).

Getting a ban (from the forums?) for this seems extremely harsh.

Oh and on the subject of animal titles: they should introduce “sheep” and “whale”. Sheeps get shorn on a regular basis whereas whales get harpooned only once (but it’s a big catch).

  9. I do have a really descent PC. Some would call it high-end gaming stuff. But regardless WoT works around 40-45 FPS! Sometimes it drops down to 30. It all started with introducing/preparation for HAVOC since patch – I don’t recall correctly – but like 9.2 or something. Before that I had easily over 80 FPS. So WG just uses unreliable info or negative customer experience to back-up their claims that everything is OK!

And – what I believe is happening – they have still remains of old code and there are plenty of possibilities for its improvement (software guys gets also experience and learn how to do stuff better!). But they will never do it because it’s an additional cost. So they will add patches on patches, on patches to just keep it running whatever it takes as long as it earns money :)

    • Well, I have a 6 years old GPU, 6 years old RAM and a 1+ year old GPU -> more FPS than your system (on maximum settings). And I definitely wouldn’t call this system high end, it’s average at best:

      Intel Core i7 920 @ 3.6GHz
      6GB DDR3-1600
      Nvidia GTX770 2GB

    • I agree with you. Since patch 9.2 when they started to put HD shit, fps dropped for me too.

They can’t optimize the new graphic properly. In every patch, they either add new shit or remove. For example tripple buffing was added removed and added again.

Fucking retarded Russians have no brain to make it work.

  10. The way the RU economy is going I cannot see many players splashing out on new or newer kit. We in the West could consider sending RU players Red Cross parcels with our old GPUs.

  11. First fact is that WT runs with more FPS on the same hardware where WoT has serious issues with FPS, despite the age or performance of the platform.
Older PCs are worse, but even brand new high-end PCs have issues, not only when their users aren’t IT professionals, even if everything is on actual patch level. WG could improve here because other companies already did.

Second the quality of your internet connection and the routing to the WG servers is also essential, no matter how good your PC is, if some ISP in between is routing some crap around, you’ve lost and WG really can’t solve that.

Third, if they’d invite me to Minsk, I’d pay the flight by myself and then I’d like to hear their excuses why my PC isn’t good enough for WoT while WT and others are running smooth.

  12. “Apparently, farming shameful titles will also eventually lead to a ban (SS: logical, as negrep farming often requires breaking forum rules”

Lol no. Its not logical. WoT forums are full of hate and fanboys. Try to write something totally legit’n’logical’true about the game or the company, try to make a vaild discussion (blah, just try to discusse) about some negative points or whatever….you will gain shitloads of neg reps from trolls, haters and fanboys.

I once wrote that WG doesnt really care about customers. Guess what – I got insulted, laughed at and neg repped (- 60 or so)

Sad but true. In other words – every sane person should stay away from WoT forums

  13. Ok this is just funny.

I don’t post in the WOT forums much because they are just a way for the mods to ban people and if you say anything that isn’t asskissing the game you will get a ban.

Now for the fun I am running WOT on a custom computer made out of a gateway FX computer with a q9300 quad core, GTX650i video card, 8 gigs of rams and a SSD drive, cost me less than $200.
I get 40-60 fps running in high res, I have zero problems with this setup.
The only times I run into problems is when WOT’s servers lagg and as of late this only happens when their are a high number of light and medium tanks on the screen at once.

  14. Hi all,

This game does have many bugs and graphics Issues. I have been playing it for 3 years now and can say that it is not stanle at all.

The people who say my game runs perfect on max setting is either blind or has no idea about the game.

    My PC is this:
    Nvidia GTX 780 TI
    12 GB RAM 1600Mhz
    SSD 120 GB OCZ Vector
    CPU I7 970, 6 cores runing at 3.2Ghz
    Windows 7 64-Bit

The problem with me is if I put improved settings, the Fps is never stanle. It goes from 120 back to 5 and blocks.
I have contacted WG many times but the fuckers have no brain to help. They give me a program to run which does not work, then they ask me to uninstall antivirus and firewall so the program can run.

Total fuckers, that what the guys in WG are.

I have to play on standard settings and even then, when driving fast with fast tanks, the ground moves or shakes as if it is going to break up.

I play games like crysis and the graphics is at max with a very stable fps of 75 amd never jumps like in wot.

WOT is a bug game, sadly I like tanks.
