Nothing much today. Russian players are not amused that in the Winter Mode, you have to buy the healing shells for gold (or a lot of credits), basically as premium ammo.

Another massive source of butthurt is the fact that the “winter mode” broke many mods. Evilly states to this: “We don’t test it for the compatibility with mods. We contacted the mod makers, they will fix it. Until the fix, you have to empty the mod folder. Specifically the garage tank carousel mods.”

Another complaint was that the LT sucks in this mode. Evilly’s answer was that the original intention of this vehicle (LT) was to heal allies in superplatoons. So yes, it sucks – and apparently it also drifts a lot.

Anyway, what will happen with your crews in that mode after the event is over:
- crews from special tanks will be moved to barracks, if barracks are full, you won’t get any free crew slots, rather the crews will be saved in a “buffer” and moved to barracks whenever free slots become available
- crews will be retrained to T110E5, Foch 155 or LTTB (from HT, TD and LT special tanks)
- you can retrain your existing crews to the special tanks (US, Soviet and French crews). If you do that, after the event is over, the crews will be retrained for free to T110E5, Foch 155 or LTTB.
- special vehicles don’t act as premiums, you can’t use other vehicles’ crews in them
- regular XP will be transferred to Cunningham, MS-1 and FT-17

Otherwise, nothing much new.

    WG at its best

    • I don’t see anything wrong there. It is not their job to check the mod compability with stuff they release. Mods are not their products so why should they care about them ?

      • Perhaps, but there was an easy solution to avoid this. They could have just activated the winter mode during the test server so that any issues could have been discovered and sorted out beforehand.

        • what do you want more? to play karl or this new winter mode? whats the fun in these minigames if you already know how they are?

      • To be fair, if they make their game mod friendly, and even provide a special, separate, folder for the mods to go to then they could at least show some fucking user-friendliness by letting modders get prepared in advance, by, as suggested above, activating the 8bit mode on test server.

        If they let their game to be modded but constantly, even deliberately perhaps, fuck up all the mods, then perhaps it would be better if they fucked off with mod support whatsoever and disable any possibility to run altered client.

        Either be mod friendly and be fucking friendly, or don’t bother with mods at all.

        • And who are you to determine the rules for Wargaming? Who are you, the CEO or something?

          Just piss off already, spoiled brat. Your negative views and whining isn’t helping at all…

        • You seem to misunderstand where mods fit in the grand scheme of things.

          Mods are overrides. The modder takes a copy of a game file, modifies it, and puts it into the appropriate mod folder. The game loads the official file, then loads the modified copy over it.

          It’s the player’s responsibility to keep up with changes to the official files. WG opened up the override functionality as a courtesy, with no guarantee that overridden files will continue to run properly, for people who want to enhance their game in various ways; it’s up to those people to keep what they have current, or figure out what isn’t and disable it.

          Say you went and bought a new car. The dealership tells you “hey, it’s POSSIBLE to haul a trailer with your car, but it’s not recommended, and we won’t repair anything that wears or breaks as a result”.
          Now you go out and haul a trailer, and it works awesomely the first few times, but soon enough the engine and drivetrain have worn just enough that the car will no longer reliably take off under the excess load. Do you

          A: Go to the dealership and whine and bitch and complain about it, refusing to remove the trailer because you feel it’s your God-given right to attach and pull it after they said it was possible, or
          B: Unhook the trailer and run the vehicle properly until you can affect repairs that allow you to pull the trailer again

          Now, you are right about one thing: WG could have released the files beforehand. But considering how difficult it seems to be for them to handle files in general, particularly without somehow screwing them up between each handling…I would never expect it, nor would I ever recommend anyone else to.

          Unofficial modifications are just that: unofficial, and therefore unsupported, and this has been stated many times by WG. You wouldn’t (reasonably) expect a car dealership to support you using your brand new car that you PAID for in an unrecommended fashion; why would you expect a gaming developer to support your third-party modifications to your FREE game?

      • They don’t even care about the Esl broadcasters either. Watched some the Eu league last night. After 9.5 the minimap has disappeared, just a graphed square in the bottom corner. You would think they could sort things like that out, Makes it look very unprofessional.

  2. - crews will be retrained to T110E5, Foch 155 or LTTB

    just like they did with the Chaffee crew only when the new patch was out?

  3. Sorry, I hated the stupid football, the idiotic race and now this, just not my cup of tea, I guess. At least it might take some load off the random.

    • Those gamemodes are a nice refreshment imo, of course they become annoying after some time, but still , it’s always great to discover/ try out something new.

    • Yes, definitely, I can see all the statpadders immediately jumping on the opportunity to buy themselves some nice stats…

      • you wouldnt get stats from the gamemode but you probably get a medal and a fixed amount of credits and xp depending on which special missions you completed for that mode

  4. I probably know the expected answer, but I have to ask the question. Can we sell the Winter Mode tanks? Are any stats noted from this mode in our service record?

  5. we dont need such crap like Wintermode, Pixeltanks or Events and Missions.. just fix the Bugs

    • There will always be haters^^Even if we would achieve world peace, there still would be somebody complainin’ like “back in the days, we had stronk tonks duuuh”

    • You seem to be unaware that WG has different departments, and thus different developers, in charge of making things for events vs tracking and patching out bugs.

      So let me enlighten you.

      WG has different departments, and thus different developers, in charge of making things for events vs tracking and patching out bugs :v

      It’s a bit more complicated than the simple reallocating-manpower problem you seem to think it is. You can’t just grab people in the event department and be all “hey, get your ass over to Debugging and build some more pylons”. Most of them wouldn’t know what to do, and the rest are probably on a lower paygrade and’ll refuse because, frankly, they’re not getting paid enough to put up with tracking and patching bugs.

      There’s also the “too many cooks in the kitchen” problem, where assigning too many people to a single task has diminishing returns because they start getting in each other’s ways.

      While I agree with your sentiment – fewer bugs is better than short-lived events – it’s almost never as simple as shifting resources around.

  6. Wonder why they spend resources on such bullshit modes instead of things they failed to finish as planned. Most people play them once or twice at max, if they do at all…

    • They have stated time and time again that the people in charge of such “special mods” are not directly involved with the development of the main branch of the game.

      And, honestly, working at a game developer company, I find their statement and Modus Operandi pretty obvious, any game dev would proceed like that.

      • Well its still spending resources on bullshit that will be active for a week or two and nobody will play it…

  7. Are they gonna get retrained for gold, credits, or for free? That is the question.

    Also, the new mode looks tons of fun, whoever complains is really just a miserable miserable person, cause he fucking complains before he even played it. Typical no lifers.

    • Free, I believe a previous news post said. Like what (eventually) happened with the Chaffee Sport crew.

      Personally, I’m going to take the opportunity to get an LTTB crew well started, since I plan on getting one at some point and this seems a fantastic opportunity to get a head start.

  8. Not related to this:
    Does anyone else have strange Ping spikes on EU1? My ping is normal and suddenly it goes up and the game lags (i’m getting decent fps) and it really fucks the gameplay up. It might be my interenet connection, but i’m sure it has something to do with servers as well.

    • Also having lags from time to time, usually only for a short time during the battle, but it annoys a lot when it happens :/
      And no, it wasn’t like this only several days ago.

      • I get this alot on both NA servers. I doubt that its your ISP to blame. it started acting up right after the release of patch 9.5. I think its just another wg screwup

        • Well, my ISP does suck but not all the time. Lags and freezes however, happend every day, in every battle. I’m also trying to play on the server with less players but it’s still the same. I thought it’s something about WG, but i wasn’t sure.

      • I can, but yesterday game just freezed 2 times when i tryed to see my stats, i had to reset my PC. As for the ping, this morning it’s better but there is only arond 25k people on server so yeah, but still, my ping, goes up without explanation (MIGHT be my ISP).

  9. Sooooo…..retrain crews to LTTB, Foch 155, and T110E5…

    But transfer xp to FT1, MS-1, and cunningham

    Real fuqqin slick….because they cant have anybody using the XP from the fox to be used on the LTTB….

      • Yes, this. Why would you even have Accelerated Crew Training turned off for event tanks, unless you were gathering for free exp (and thus it’s a moot point anyway)?

        I guess you could argue “because I want it on the associated tank for easy unlocks”, but WG would be shooting themselves in the foot if they arranged it like that. This way, people get easy convertible experience, WG gets money when it’s converted, everyone wins a little.

  10. So, my first impressions about “Winter mode”:

    - You get all three machines. Each comes with crew of 4, 100% each;
    - Regular round costs 40 credits, “premium” healing round – 1 gold/400 credits;
    - T110E5 fires 3 round bursts (200 alpha each); T-50-2 – single low damage shot and has the slowest highest arc round; Foch fires single 1000 alpha faster flat-arc shot;
    - There is only one base but both teams can can cap it at the same time.
    - Worst thing you can do is rush for cap. If you win by caping the base you get 0 XP, and 0 credits. However, if you complete specials missions (eg “Do 3300 damage in Foch”) you get 11500 credits and 2250 XP for loss or 3000 XP and 16000 credits on a win. Only the ammunition costs are deduced – repairs cost nothing at all. After three successful matches (ie completed the misssion even if the match was lost) battle the crew skills got from 0% to 41-47%;

    Looks like it’s a good way to grind those credids and a pretty decent crews. Plus, it’s fast paced mindless fun. I think it’s much better holiday gift than that tier 2 Panzer. There’s one gripe though – 8-bit sounds might be fun (or nostalgic for some) at first, but i have a feeling it will get slightly blan if you intend to grind for crews and credits. I saw one guy boasting “3 hours – 2 million credits”.

    P.S. modules don’t get any damage, no need to bring those consumables with you.

    • P.P.S. Playing 25 battles (you have to cause at least 500 damage in each) gives you 25K XP, 25K crew XP and 250K credits. Repeatble 5 times.

      P.P.P.S. No point in angling your armour, all guns have 1000mm of penetration.

    • Fun fact. Map is called “Battle City”. It all figures – after the “Karl” incident Battle City map was taken out of the game and now is back reworked. Just like they did with Nightmarin and some other maps.

      • You do realize that you can edit your comments right? How about editing your comments rather than posting new ones constantly…
        Or just collect all your data and do one big comment if you feel like your info is being sporadic.

    • “I think it’s much better holiday gift than that tier 2 Panzer.”

      A free crap sandwich would have been a better holiday gift than the Panzer II D. Only marginally, but still better. I’ll definitely take a fun-sounding special mode with nice rewards, though.

      Does armor play any role here? Or are we flinging around HE rounds and everyone’s made of paper? How’s spotting work; do you get not-LTTBs hiding in the back and being healbots, or is it reasonably easy to flush them out and kill them?

      • There is no HE option. Only AP and Healing rounds. I managed to bounce a round of off Foch’s rangefinder on several occasions. But in most cases armour doesn’t mean much. Even if you are angling as you would normally do in pub match and only small portion of your track is showing, if enemy can hit that it will do damage.

        Map is small, everyone can spot enemy tanks so there’s no need for scouts in the sense we are used to think of them. Battles look like organized mayhem with little tactics involved. But it actually is a good idea to move in large groups as it helps both to push forward and defend in case of enemy flanking you.

        Healing is not a very rewarding job though. Thing is – you only get credits for fulfilling mission requirement “do over X amount of damage”. So if you’re healing, you don’t do damage. You don’t do damage – you don’t get credits and XP. It certainly isn’t “pay to win” as some have implied. On a side note, when you’re hit by healing round it displays direction of impact with the same red marker as enemy round. It’s somewhat disorienting because you then think that you’re attacked from behind. I have been shot back by team mate, who thought that i am trying to TK him when i was in fact healing. Good thing is – you can’t damage your team mates.

    • So if I want a T110E5 crew without owning the tank I could potentially get myself ready by doing a few battles in that tank to get it atleast bia and repair/6th sense

    • 50 battles? That sounds too good to be true.
      I guess you get shite if you happen to lose? Then perhaps 50 wins could take a while.

      • You get 0 if you just cap the base. If you fullfill mission conditions however you’ll get XP and credits regardless of the battle outcome.

        Missions are:
        “Winter sniper” (for TD only) – do at least 3300 damage;
        “Winter heavyweight” (HT only) – do at least 2500 damage;
        “Winter scout” (LT only) – do at least 1700 damage.
        For this you get 1500XP, 1500 crew XP and 10.000 credits regardless of the battle outcome. In case of victory there is some sort of multiplier. Also, any of these missions overlap with another mission where you need to do at least 500 damage. You’ll get a little extra XP and credits for these missions. All things included you’ll get ca. 11500 credits for a loss and 16000 credits for victory. But more importantly, completing 25 of these “500 damage” missions gives you 25.000 XP, 25.000 crew XP and 250.000 credits. And you can repeat it 5 times.

    • How is it pay to win then?
      No one is forcing you to empty your wallets in return for gold for those so called “pay2win” shells. You can just buy them for credits for God’s sake.
      No need to be a drama queen ..

  11. > Specifically the garage tank carousel mods.

    It’s ridiculous that WoT doesn’t have a carousel mod already built-in. Who on Earth wants to spend 30 seconds scrolling through dozens of tanks, looking for the one you want, when it could be a hell of a lot easier?
