The damage on Jpanzer IV are impressive. Welds suffer but a crack inside the armor plate? I don’t know what caliber it was but wow.
Going by the round embedded in the plate (neat) I’d say the 75mm-90mm mark.
Wonder if it was used as target practice by the Germans or Allies.
It was knocked out and captured in late 1944~early 1945.
Some says it was by troops of the 1st French Army during the battle of the Colmar pocket, others that it was by the 2e DB in the Vosges.
The same vehicle during WW2, after its capture:

I was in Saumur 2years ago, and they said that french’s resistance put some sand on the steal, in factories, in order to produce weaker armor for the German army.
Is that Tiger real? The suspension looks legit. I thought the only one left is at the Bovington museum.
There is plenty left, but only one that drives around is one on bovington
They’ve got a Tiger II functionning (see it years ago). If I remember correctly, you can see it in the “part 1″ of this post…
The TD picture below the Marder III Ausf M is a 7.5cm Pak 40 auf Panzerjäger Lorraine Schlepper(f)
AKA Marder I (one of them)
The SPG “another German conversion of the French light tanks (105mm SPG)” is a 10.5cm leFH18(SF) Auf Geschutzwagen 39H(F)
meanwhile poor batchat rots outside….
they have many amx 13 somethings outside plus a brand new leclerc looking a little sorry for itself. Outside vehicule and garage space for spare parts is just as interesting as inside the museum, trouble is, no access to best bits.
Sad, isn’t it? Certainly there must be people willing to store that stuff in a barn or warehouse for a couple of years for (just about) free? Maybe even get the rust off and slap a basecoat of paint on there to prevent it from deteriorating (again). Can’t believe all that stuff is just laying and sitting there….
Unless if you’re capable of solving Saumur’s (And most museums) financial issues there isn’t much they can do. They’re stressed for resources, and have to prioritize. If you can figure some way to make the bat chat their new top priority all power to you, but otherwise they can’t be criticized for the problems they have to confront.
This is true. Still, wouldn’t be cheap and effective to just put a tarp over it?
That Jagpanzer 38t is the Post-War swiss G13 though…
The Czech flag is wrong. Red colour should be on the right and white colour on the left.
Don’t feel special, most of them are wrong. I mean they have it wrong for some where you just move the flag 90 degrees (Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland), never mind getting it wrong for the Czech flag with its special rule.
I think the lesson is if you don’t know how to hoist flag vertically don’t bother.
it is an sdkfz 251/7 Pionierpanzerwagen
great pictures !!! got pictures of the museum too but my camera is not as good as RastaKnight One….
SS, if you need some other pictures (taken in 2013/04) I can give you a link to my shared drive…. (if you’ve lost the link ;-) )
