Hello everyone,

another short post by Storm about what’s going on in development for 8.10:

- if all goes well, next patch (8.10) will bring projectiles flying thru destructable objects such as fences and walls
- fixed a bug where in the tooltip for the loader on IS-7 it was displayed that the crewman can’t train radioman skills, apparently this bug caused a lot of butthurt
- fixed a bug where the average XP for crewmen was displayed as two times lower than on the tank itself. It’s a visual bug, not the crewmen getting less XP, don’t worry :)
- increased the turret rotation speed on Maus by 2 degrees/sec (eg. by almost 15 percent)
- changes for Lowe: upper side armor is 20mm thicker, -2,5 tons of weight, +40 shells in ammo rack, depression buffed by 2 degrees

The Japanese are being worked on, maps are being reworked – work is in full swing.

From the discussion:

- there is not enough data yet whether top Waffenträgers are OP or not
- for now, only destructable objects will be penetrable, tests have shown that while a 120mm subcaliber shell penetrating 10 huts in a row is realistic, it changes gameplay on some places significantly
- for penetrating destructable objects there will be a loss of penetration for the shell
- the loss of penetration will not be a big one, it will be the same for all objects
- it’s not planned for shadows of objects to provide camo bonus
- the Lowe gun elevation will also be buffed despite not being listed above
- Storm states that the Maus turret rotation buff is important, as the turret rotates really slowly
- E-100/Maus “Tiger-II-like” turret with a 128mm gun is a complete fake
- in the future, shells will be flying through buildings too
- Storm states that the reason for this change is for the gameplay to be “more understandeable”
- there will be “non-linear loss of penetration with each hit of the object”
- Storm is not aware of any FPS drop issues in 8.9
- the penetrated objects won’t have see-through holes in them apparently
- rocks and stones will not be penetrable
- T-44-85 will not come in 8.10
- KV-1S will not be split in 8.10
- player statistic bug will be fixed this year (SS: not sure which one is meant)
- the destructable object penetration mechanism is already developed, the only thing to decide is in which patch will it come
- info about 8.10 and two new Soviet tanks will come soon
- Japanese tanks will come “in the next month”
- it’s too early to tell whether the T7 Combat Car is too weak
- improved graphics (partial, 9.0) will come around New Year
- in 8.10 there will (apart from the Japanese) be also the color filters
- there are no plans for changes of E-100 and other vehicles on its bases apparently
- KV-5 is doing fine statistically
- the shells penetrating destructable object will destroy it too (SS: so, like now, just that the tank behind it will get hit, the shell won’t get eaten)
- North-West map has really positive feedback, most players like it
- gold shells for credits won’t be removed
- for now the HEAT damage reduction is not planned
- there is no plan to implement XP gained by crewmembers into the post-battle statistics
- optional hulls will come in 2014
- no plans for material gun barrels (SS: as in, gun barrels that don’t clip thru objects)
- no plans for other Maus gun changes
- there will be more varied gun sounds (no more 150m and 120mm sounding the same)
- M48 gun model will be fixed
- T2 LT won’t get better MM than it has now

      • Hmm, since the starting tree will have only lights and meds, I wonder if the light tanks will be as british(normal light tanks, no scouts) or like chinese(complete scout tanks)

        • Since the highest tiered LT is T4, it might get scout MM, but T3 most likely not. When the full branch (up to nT8, duh) LTs come, they’ll most likely be just scouts like the Chinese and French.

      • I want to know some infos about the guns, the armor and mobility informations about the mediums

  4. Ah, cant wait for the Japanese tanks to arrive :)
    And the new map is really great, I hope the devs continue making maps in that way too. But it would be even better if the south-east part could be accesible too.

    • Presumably not, as these already detonate on contact with all sorts of standoff armor.

      Actually, this might be indirect buff for APCR loaded tanks in era of HEAT – first shot advantage as well somewhat tactical option to demolish quickly all sorts of light cover

      • HEAT would only prematurely detonate if said obstacle is thick enough. Thin objects like doors or so wouldnt detonate HEAT yet, but anything larger would. However, this would cause another rebalancing issue…

        Then there are tandem charges but thats too modern now…

    • Yeah I mean it should get rebalanced ASAP. I prefer it to the IS when peek-a-booing because it has better depression and it’s dope fast, turret is the same (with armor values) and hull armor on the IS is mainly good for only sidescraping since the LFP is still the size of a house.

      • I don’t see Port being blueish but i definitely see yellow snow on Serene Coast. Remember, never eat yellow snow!

      • finally! If anyone played bf3 they know how everything has a blue tint, someone made a ‘mod’ to remove it. Glad WG is doing thing, huge to me.

    • color filter gives a general color “feel” for map. Hope changing this will allow i.e. removing a “smog” from Mines.

    • I’ve been pwning in the t7 car… not sure what your problem is. That gun, although sometimes it can have trouble penetrating some tanks, will one-clip any tier 2 pretty easily.

    • Here’s the thing, it would be OP at tier 1 and although there’s certain tier 2 tanks it can only dream of penning, it can pen most of them, some more easily than others.

    Makes it even easier to fight several enemies at once, I like the sound of that.

    • It IS a long over-due buff. I’m not sure it’s enough to make me look at that line seriously though.

      • Tbh the Maus is a very niche tank to begin with.
        The 128mm gun is good, but not as good as the guns of most other tier X tanks.
        “It get’s the job done” is the phrase I would use to describe it.

        The “good” gun combined with near immortality if angled and used wisely is what makes the Maus a niche tank for the kind of people that like multi-tasking and taking the heap of the damage.

        Multi-tasking, because the ideal situation for a Maus is being up front engaging several enemy tanks and keeping them from harming your teammates.
        To accomplish this without being destroyed faster than you can yell “Shenanigans!” you need to adjust the angle of the Maus and keep the reload of the enemy tanks in mind so that you know when you have to angle toward which tank.
        Plus of course you gotta be careful about the terrain you fight on… stay arty safe, or feel confident in your arty dodging skills, etc, etc.

        It’s a tank for the kind of person that loves playing the tank in mmorpgs and tries to perfect his/her playstyle.

        • And if you’re driving a Maus in random games and ever have the misfortune of getting a battle on a map with a lot of open space (i.e. Steppes or Redshire), you’re pretty much fucked; there are SOME places you can go and be useful on those maps, but it severely restricts your options, as opposed to a map like Ruinberg, Ensk, Lakeview or Himmelsdorf, which are the types of maps where the Maus (and the E-100 by extension) tend to excel in due to the large amount of hard cover to sidescrape behind.

  8. The turrets can also clip, dont forget that. For example the M103′s turret goes thrue buildings when its turned to the side.

      • That actually might make the AufPanther worth playing, it’s guns were all meant to be shorter than the chassis length so they could “reconnoiter”.

    • Its not that bad.

      The Marines used the M2A4 against japan. The British used the M4A2 against Japan in Burma and the Japanese might have even captured a few in Burma.

      ok, ok, it was bad. But it was being sent into a harsh environment. Only the M2A4s went into combat. The other M2s were all armed with .30 and.50 cals where as the M4A2 was armed with the BIG M5 37mm cannon.

    • Indeed. With the previous MM it was pretty fun to play with. Now it’s only useful as a ninja or half court scout. Run little T2 light!

    trolololol… We need better RoF (12 secs is too much) , not imaginary buffs on other stats…

    • It have the same gun as the VK 45.02 B and E-75. Rof buff on Maus would mean the other two should have a buff as well. And that will be OP, also the armor and HP on Maus makes up for It’s “small” gun.

      • Did you notice, that e-75 and maus are on diffrent tiers?
        they should give maus atleast 4,2 rof, their loaders hae way more space in the turret.

    • no it doesn’t. RoF is a tank-dependent stat. Look at the 88 L71. It has waaayyy different reloads on the Tiger and Tiger P. And also on the JP and Nashorn and JT88.

  12. good thing about the sounds .. my T30 sounds like it has a 120mm gun =( when in fact it has a 155mm one

    • After that they should seriously think about giving tanks proper engine sounds, the current set is so much inadequate… Again, audio mods do this too but they cripple game performance on low-end PCs too bad for what they offer.

  13. My only problem with the t7 car right now is that it seems to have a limited projectile range. I thought WG came out and said there were no such limitations but I can’t seem to hit a tank over maybe 4-500m. Not even once out of an entire clip of however many that thing spits out.

    • Even the Pz 1 Cs Mk 103 cannon has a limited range. Its like 300-400m. Same goes for all of the 2cm FlaK guns. Its all in the name of balance. Or all guns would, with some exceptions, have mostly flat trajectory all the time due to the small map sizes.

        • It varies from gun to gun…..machineguns have about ~350 and for example T1E6 prem tank we also got as a gift has it’s gun with autoloader limited to 400m iirc….i think they already provided the explanation for those somewhere….iirc they are limited because at those ranges they penetration would drop so much they would be useless….they wouldn’t pen anything even if they hit it….

    This also means that the test server would be ready in about…maybe 3-4 weeks?

    • I hope that the TS will last at least untill December 26th as I have my whole family at home and some cousins and stuff to give animation. A TS would be a nice way to let them tank while my main account remains safe from other noobs than me. :) Except my friend Jimmy, who is btw the possibly worst player I ever saw, still letting him play up to Tier 6.

  16. With 2 more degrees depression and its super wicked turret along with its massive pen and accuracy the Lowe might make a comeback :)

    It was obsolete because KT did its job and T34 did everything better. Since its armor meant little this gives it a major advantage IMO….Im looking forward to it, I wanted to sell it so badly. I still want to trade it for a SU-144

  18. Hey SS, can you clarify what are the “destructible objects” that will be able to be penned through and what are “buildings”? Some buildings are destructible so will those be counted as “destructible objects” or “buildings”?

  19. Very odd that they won’t fix the matchmaking for the T2 Light since it is clearly an error, but maybe that’s the reason.. They just don’t want to admit to being wrong. They don’t seem to care about giving the AT 15A the hitpoints it should have either.

    You dont even need to play with it, just look at its stats…

    Currently this is the worst tank in the game, even D1/D2 is more fun to play…

  22. If destructible objects can’t be used as temporary cover anymore, tanks will have to rely more on their armor. This is a nerf for light tanks. No more protection from fences and small wooden buildings. If you are spotted, you are dead.

    • Light tanks shouldn’t be parking behind something like that anyway; if they’re in trouble they should drive back to their lines where they’ll have support from the team.

      • I expected that some idiot will come up with this usual smart ass talk. Because obviously, you always have a team to run back to. It never happened that a light tank was one of the last surviving tanks and had to occupy one of the surviving enemies.

        Well guess what, if you never lived long enough to not have 14 friendly players behind your back, you are the 30 seconds light tank player, proudly on 0% survival ratio. Better players have learned to exploit the small size of these tanks and learned to take cover behind small objects, thus they live longer than your 1 minute record.

      • Except their job as scout requires them to take cover in front of their team in order to live and contribute to their team. Furthermore, I as a scout player /already do/ break contact and retreat regularly. Multiple times in every game, in fact. When I do so, I’m not doing my job and I risk having a medium or heavy take my spot damage. Allowing people to shoot through my cover makes my job that much less survivable, reduces my chances of actually contributing, and forces me to retreat even more for less spotting damage.

    - KV-1S will not be split in 8.10

    slow work.. what is so difficult to make them final? t 44-85 was only about a little bit buffing the pen.
    KV 1S Split was announced ages before!

  26. Does this thing mean that tanks won’t be hidden from my APs when I drive Obj. 261 ? I guess that HEs won’t go through as they explode on impact but for APs it could work with arties too :)

    Pls…stop whining about my favorite KV-5. It’s fine what it is now, don’t need some buff or strange thing to make it out of it role(with me it’s a ramming monster, and lower tier bully). People think it UP just because nowadays everyone know it’s weak spot, and premium shells are flying everywhere.If someone who think it’s OP “learn how to kill a KV-5″.

  28. The KV-5 currently is a joke. Everyone knows the numerous and exposed weak spots (not to talk of the weak gun), and the MM should be restricted to maximum Tier VIII. The Löwe buffs make sense to me, but I think they should also give the KV-5 some “love”.

    • The only they have given us (KV-5 owners, since like 7.0) is a rough one. 7.2 – MM remake (if I remember) – now KV-5 sees tier 9. Then was physics – no good ramming damage on flat surfaces. Then was acc./ reload speed nerf and then there were people learning all freaking weakspots (probably, everyone, while not knowing R2D2 weakspot woudl shoot it, because it loos so inviting). And that all balanced by +180 hp, +2 treverse speed – yey!!! It does statistically fine only because players that have them have improved at every tank, including KV-5 (although marginally). My WR is going down and down from average (~1k battles). While bought T-34 (~60% winrate – yey). Why this tank didn`t receive Super pershings destiny!? WHY? :)

      P.S. Rage level gone back to acceptable level.

    OMG, I sure hope they will add like 1-2 arty hardcap with this, cause like now – 5 artys a side with 150+ mm shells going through buildings will mean total massacre of enemy team.

  30. while i do like the changes with those dumb fences and concrete pillars eating shells i do not like their plans to make shells going trough all destructable objects…..imagine that village on prokhorovka….only cover you have there are those small huts and wooden houses and even them are only temporary cover until someone decides to blow it away leaving you exposed there…..basically that village would be open ground with only imaginary cover(well they might continue to gives you spotting cover meaning you won’t be spotted behind those), but still doesn’t really like how it sounds in theory…

    - nice. the gun depression is very nice. The lowe actually has amazing turret armor, it just can’t use it well right now because it lacks depression. This could be a very good buff.

    lol so a shell will lose the same pen from going through a thin wooden fence board compared to a thick brick/stone wall. alright…..

    yes, the slow turret rotation was really the main reason why the Maus sucks. Yeah, totally. It’s a really important buff. Right. Sure.

    aha no. It’s not too early. It’s trash.
    Just give it it’s planned speed of ~48kph. The Cheiftain has pointed out that in practice, it was not controllable at that speed, so the “real” top speed was what we have in game. But come on, it wouldn’t be the first tank to get its ideal planned performance instead of its actual performance.

    dunno why this keeps coming up. The KV-5 is a beast. I don’t get people who say it’s underpowered.

    Sorry about asking so late, but I told about this new feature to friend of mine and he asked that if you shoot a house that’s destructable, will that shot destroy whole house at once? Or if you shoot through multiple fences, will all of these bow up with this one shell, and after that will also penetrate that tank behind them?
