Veider and P.Bityukov answer on live stream

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/2839333.html

Hello everyone,

recently, developer Veider and P.Bityukov, a historical consultant. Russian player Maiorboltach prepared a summary of what they said on the recent live stream yesterday. So, you might consider this a summary of a summary :)

- it was the French and English tank designers who influenced the Japanese tank design the most
- the Japanese doctrine was close cooperation of tank units with infantry and cavalry, but the Japanese did not intend for armored units to operate independently. After the clash with USSR it was decided to make the guns more powerful. The Japanese had few tanks, because the plants couldn’t meet the demant due to resource shortages. The sum of all Japanese tank together in the war was less than 10 thousand. There were tank clashes in Burma between the Chinese units (riding American tanks) and Japanese units (who used their own + captured tanks). Japanese tanks also took part in the civil war in China.
- there will be no more huge changes in WoT gameplay (SS: related to the fact that there will simply be no more very specific branches, like the French tanks and such)
- P.Bityukov thinks Japanese tanks will probably not be used in cybersports, as they have low alpha

(at this moment in stream, Veider gets oneshotted by an Object 261 and writes in chat that Object 261 will get nerfed)

- the new map is very controversial, WG worked on it for very long time, but there are still issues, WG is ready to change it according to player feedback
- Veider likes “blue tint” on maps á la BF3
- Chi-Ri was influenced by the German Panther
- Japanese tanks didn’t fight any truly massive tank battles, they were used in smaller units up to batallion level
- Heavy and TD branches are not yet completed
- the Japanese constructed their own version of the Konisch gun, it will appear in the TD branch (“when it’s done it’s done”)
- developers don’t want to implement purely fictional Japanese vehicles however
- tier 8 premium Japanese tank will not come anytime soon, there are some viable prototypes, but it’s not yet decided whether they will be implemented
- T-44-85 will return, but Veider won’t say how exactly
- Panzer IV Hydro and SU-85i’s fate is secret for now
- a detailed video on how MM works will come soon
- SU-76i will probably be a reward tank either for missions of for CW
- penetrability of soft objects will have minimal impact on balancing, for now it’s just the early version: WG starts to rework rail wagons now, their collision models etc.
- developers REALLY wanted to make Object 430 with 140 as its tier 9, but Object 140 turned in fact into tier 10 and that’s why they had to find another tier 9 tank
- KV-1S will not be nerfed, it will be split into two tanks, but this won’t happen anytime soon, maybe in like half a year, maybe even later, the reason for this delay is the fact they are reworking the textures to HD
- historical battles are being developed now: they are working on interface, server logics and improving the code
- at this moment, IS-3 is practically historical, there are only some questions about the visual look of the hull
- VK4502 (rear turret) will not be changed soon, but there are some distant plans for it
- no new premium tanks will come anytime soon
- the turrets ripped off by ammorack explosions will be implemented soon
- multiturret mechanism will not come anytime soon. The main problem is controlling it apparently, along with the question whether it is actually needed at all
- there will be no changes in USSR tree anytime soon
- the developers want to rework Severogorsk completely, these changes will not make it to the next patch after 8.10
- there are plans to fix the tier 10 British medium, but they won’t be announced for now, those are long term plans
- KV-5 will be neither buffed nor nerfed
- the map Port will be completely removed from the game, it will never return after that

  1. “- the map Port will be completely removed from the game, it will never return after that”

How come? I know it’s not that good. But not even a rework?

            • There’s easily 6+ maps worse than Port by far tho, and I’ve never seen it get the hate something like Dragon Ridge got before its last removal. Like to choose Port, of all maps, to completely remove seems kind of absurd and out of nowhere.

              • Port was not a very good map, but I like those American urban maps. I hope they do more of those.

          • Yeah, well. Usually noobs hate Redshire because only thing they know is camp. Its a good map with plenty options to advance making view range and camo big advantage. Port is basically chaos peeking from all the directions behind vagons and shooting through them making it big disadvantage for TDs and light tanks, who have no options to do anything there. Also the south side has huge advanatage with horizont in front of the railway. Its a worst, unbalanced map in game and I appreciate they will finally remove it.

      • hey SS,

check the weight of the japanese RADIO modules … they appear the be super heavy in mid to high tier.

Cany ou get some information about if that is intended or will ger changed. Because if not it might be the first tree where it acutally makes sense to not mount the biggest radio (better power/weight ratio).

        • It is all about how the radio is designed. Better design means lighter vacuum tubes, better use of space and better cooling. More efficient and lighter parts also make it possible to design it to be more compact.

It all comes down to design.

      • But why ? why remove a completely functional map altogether, change the problem, anyway i kinda liked it as is …

        • Redshire isn’t as bad as some of the other maps. port is especially crappy compared to redshire.

        • Port is probably removed because in 8.10 it will be possible to shoot through the concrete fence and train carts, so the team in northeast corner will have less cover.

      • The idea could be good. A port map, lots of warehouses and transport crates and dock areas. A nice alternative to city maps. But the mass of pointless railway lines and stupid noob trap bridges ruined it.

I suspect the real reason it is going has more to do with server load once you can shoot trough multiple rail trucks.

        • Port is an annoying map for me. It has plenty of bad design. For example bjects that hinder your movement and shooting but don’t prevent you from being spot – pipes, railway cars. Tight corners everywhere besides the sand dunes.

      • I guess the main reason is that shooting through/hiding behind trains will be too confusing after penetratable objects are introduced. Just imagine – Object 268 penetrating everything behind the trains. It would be even a bigger nightmare to defend the upper-right base.

    • Well I would think it might have something to do with the shells being able to pass thru objects that will come soon. If I understand right, at first rail cars won’t be included in this, but in a later patch they will be. So if thats the case, without MAJOR rework I think Port would become near unplayable.

  2. Noooo! Why, Port is a great map, it’s just not easy to play, you need situational awarnes to don’t get shooted ffom anywhere

  3. - SU-76i will probably be a reward tank either for missions of for CW
    Mission reward? That’s intersting.

Also, Port removed? I never had that many issues with it… There are many maps that are far worse…

  4. Port removed? Yeah that is a problem, but how about Highway? That is a bigger pain in the ass for me.

  5. “the map Port will be completely removed from the game, it will never return after that”

    Why?

  6. Why is Port being removed and forgotten where as maps like Severogorsk, El Halluf, Sand River, Komarin and Serene Coast get to stay!? Port is way better than any of those hideous maps, it doesn’t allow easy camping therefore everyone complained!? I really don’t get what goes on in Wargaming’s or the player-bases head!

    • Becouse bottome team run into venter and can shot left/right side, afcourse BIEST ADVANTAGE, you can SHOT THRU BOTTOM OF VAGONS, other side CANT DO THIS. More and more players doing the same, and bootom spawn have problems with that.

    • Because none of those maps have the problems that Port has.

To WG they don’t really care if a map allows or encourages camping. All they care about is does one team have an advantage. And can they rework small parts of the map to fix said advantage. For Port the answer is no. The lower team gets a town to hide in and can shoot under the train cars at enemy tanks. The upper team can only hide in the town if they have already lost the railroad and they will lose the railroad most games because they can’t hide in the railroad when the enemy can just shoot under their hiding spot and hit them.

    • Severogorsk will be reworked, El Halluf will get some changes, Komarin was reworked and it is fine, Serene Coast is low teir only and its fine. And Sand River FAR better than Port.
Neither of them, especially not El Halluf and Sand River, are “hideous”, quite the contrary in fact. But you reserve the right to that point of view.

Port is annoying at times, but at least its more bearable than Redshire and the Magic Forest map. So I have mixed feelings about it being gone. Personally I don’t want any map to be removed.

  7. - KV-1S will not be nerfed, it will be split into two tanks, but this won’t happen anytime soon, maybe in like half a year, maybe even later, the reason for this delay is the fact they are reworking the textures to HD.

An absolute necessary rebalance of the KV-1S will be delayed for shabby excuses. Now, the sacking of Zlobny makes more sense. Shame on you WG, or shall I say “SerB”!

It takes now at least another 8-10 months until Tier 6 battles are enjoyable and are NOT flooded by noobs and pros, trolling with this “jack of all trades device”, one-shooting and bashing their enemies.

    • KV-1S is the reason why I hate tier 6 heavys, because none of them can face it, only the T-150 if it sidescrapes.

      • Try the ARL 44. Its 120mm sloped frontal plate is pretty reliable against 175mm pen guns, and it can carry a 105mm gun with around 170 pen and 300 damage with nice overall DPM. It also has 10 degrees of gun depression, allowing you to use hills quite nicely.

        • tried it. it sucks.

soft turret armor (makes front hull armor pointless) – throw HE on the side/back = full damage.
spaced side armor gets penned even when sidescraping.
eats huge damage from HE shells.
very long aim time combined with huge gun dispersion even when moving slowly.
          slow.

also, the 105 is the best gun for it imo, with the 2nd 90mm being 2nd best – final 90mm is for noobs.

as for other tier 6 heavies:
Churchill VII is obviously crap, TOG II is way better.
KV-2 is nice, but nothing amazing thanks to crap mobility, accuracy, and armor.
T-150 is nice, but then again, its got crap mobility with the accuracy being only slightly better than KV-1S w/ 122mm.
VK3601 has unreliable gun and is now slow.
M6 is good overall, but the huge silhouette and terrible camo limits it a lot; frontal armor (both hull and turret) isn’t tough enough for a tier 6 heavy either (almost all tier 6 can pen it, not to mention the very soft and huge side/rear and 10km/h reverse speed).

  8. Oh come on now, it wasn’t fun in any way, shape or form, but I would rather play Port in a bushcamping TD 10 times then play a single match on Komarin in a tank of my choosing.

  9. Port was ok. Not one I find easy but I did manage a huge battle in the T20 there once.

To be honest I divide maps into ones that I can play well and ones I need to learn to play better. If I lose I don’t blame the map.

  10. - there are plans to fix the tier 10 British medium, but they won’t be announced for now, those are long term plans

    MUHAHAHAHA

    *Evil smile™*

  11. Port wasn’t my favourite, but i’d choose it any day over a crappy Komarin or Redshire or Severogork or…. etc
it will be removed probably because objects are being penetrated now, and port is full of ‘smooth’ objects
Also we will still have the son of stalin stronk soviet kvas tenk….h plays it who cant feel pro only in a big time OP

  12. - the map Port will be completely removed from the game, it will never return after that

    /

  13. Multi-turret: The biggest feature that would do jack-all that whiners love to whine about.

A.K.A No, that 75mm on your Maus will not be very useful in Tier 10 matches.

    • I’d love to be able to keep my opponent permatracked with that 75mm gun. That would be one hell of a saving grace for your something to be desired mobility!

  14. - there will be no more huge changes in WoT gameplay (SS: related to the fact that there will simply be no more very specific branches, like the French tanks and such)

But we will still be getting the second HT and MT lines right?

  15. I would rather drill a hole in my head than play Highway. They remove port? It was such a fun clan wars map though it saddens me. Secondly, Port is fun to play in middle tiers but in high tiers it gets stupid. Some maps are designed for the middle tier tanks, while others are better at higher tiers. I forgot the last time I played that Map with a destroyed train running down the middle, even forgot its name.

    • I agree with you about maps & there respective tiers. The map you mentioned, Prokhorovka is a nightmare at high tiers – one side of the map fills up with camping td’s while the other often resorts to a meat grinder, with neither side willing (or able) to make a solid push. Only movement you see are light tanks & fast mediums brawling it out in the middle.

  16. - the map Port will be completely removed from the game, it will never return after that

Maybe not removed completely (at this moment, it could be so), but will get back after several patches (like swamp and komarin)? Its just strange to remove it forever. Better make tier limit in this map or something.

  17. I wonder why Port gets thrown out completely, yet Komarin is allowed to stay in the game…

  18. - Veider likes “blue tint” on maps á la BF3
Fuck him. The blue/orange tint makes games so bland.

  19. - the map Port will be completely removed from the game, it will never return after that

I dont see this one coming, Why?
It not that bad imo, Maybe limited the tank tier that played this map would be better

  20. “- multiturret mechanism will not come anytime soon. The main problem is controlling it apparently, along with the question whether it is actually needed at all”

NO! I WANT MY FCM F1 DAMMIT!

  21. - developers don’t want to implement purely fictional Japanese vehicles however

that means no Metal Gear Rex as tier X TD

  22. Wait a freakin’ minute- “No new premium tanks will come anytime soon”??

How does that jive with last week’s “When premium tanks become available, we’ll make them…”

Here’s an EASY tier 6 American premium TD: M36 turret on a M4A3 hull- M36B1, historical vehicle. Bang. Combo of two existing models, couldn’t be easier.

    So, why the wait??

Or, T88: Hellcat with a 105mm derp. Bang. Don’t even need a new model. (Although, what should really happen is the M18 gets the 105mm as an option… That’s just as legitimate a tank as the M18 with a 90mm gun, since they both existed as prototypes)

  23. About Port Map removed from the game : for me, it’s a bit sad .

I remember a Q&A about the possibility of choose the map you don’t want : that’s a great idea !!!! – limited to 3 or 4 map max. I think that’s a solution which wiil satisfy a lot of players.

I remember also when they put in game the “new” type of battle…. on the next patch, they had the possibility of check them out (like for me, they’re unchecked)

    • Forget something : this idea (not mine) will permit to bring back “dragon ridge” for the players who liked it….. like me :-)

  24. I actually like port, like it a lot more than many other maps like Redshire, indeed; but also El Halluf, Sand river, bah! I just wish they would reconsider the option to disable maps :/

  25. Port being removed from the game is a wonderful thing.
Everyone complains about Redshire, El Halluf, Sand River, and so on being terrible, but they are playable.
For all of those maps, there’s a way to play any type of tank properly. Sure, some tanks will be at a disadvantage (mainly heavies, because those maps are open and have little cover) but it’s still playable. On other maps you get an advantage as a heavy (Himmelsdorf, Ruinberg, etc.) because those maps you can make use of your armor on and fight in close quarters.

Port is bad because it massively favors the south spawn. You can shoot under, over (as arty) the railcarts, and in the next patch you can simply shoot through them. The brick walls along the middle are also easily shot through as of 8.10.
The rail carts mostly just serve to make it a harder time for the north spawn to leave and get to the battlefield slower. Medium tanks, light tanks, and tank destroyers have very little use on the north spawn due to the lack of bushes and the small size of the map.
Artillery and heavies are the only ones mildly relevant on the map, and even then the south spawn has plenty of cover from arty and heavies will have a tough time as there is only 1 flank they can travel to in order to fight enemy heavies. And they have to come to the enemy and walk into THEIR fire, not the other way around.

I’m glad it’s being removed. It was a horribly broken, gameplay- and balance-wise map.
