Interview with Evilly

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/3116432.html

Hello everyone,

recently, Anton “Evilly” Pankov was interviewed in a video and Maiorboltach from Russian LJ community was kind enough to provide a written version of the video info. Not too much interesting there, but no info should be missed, so…

- Evilly likes cybersports, he tried to get into e-sports, but didn’t make it, now he works for Wargaming
- he played CS profesionally (15vs15 and 30vs30 on cs_assault)
- he started as a community manager
- there will be World of Warplanes cybersports, apparently in 1vs1 format
- WG apparently still has faith in World of Warplanes, because it is successful in Europe and “has everything ahead of it”
- Chris Taylor is still working on a “supersecret project”

The video is here:

Generally not very relevant.

    Funny :)
WoWp is as good as dead!

    • Currently there are 4k players online in EU and they call it “successful”? I call it fail.

      • Well its not really a good game is it? WG will have tanks and WT will have the air. Its at sea its all won or lost as far as I am concerned. Get the naval part out first and take that slice of the pie early and win overall.

    • Considering the way WoT involved WoWP indeed can become much better game, but it needs big changes and much faster updates. It’s the only way to make it able to compete with WT.

  2. - WG apparently still has faith in World of Warplanes, because it is successful in Europe and “has everything ahead of it”

Funny this, because there was recently an interview with an EU community guy and he said: “WG still has faith in World of Warplanes, because it is successful in NA”. A few days later there was an interview with a NA community guy and he said “WG still has faith in World of Warplanes, because it is successful in RU”

    • How many players at prime time atm? My wild guess is maybe 10-15K … if they want to call this a success

      • It actually is. WoT was originally made for around 50k people at prime time at the most. This is less, but not too much less. WoWP is profitable, and its not unsalvageable.

        • Despite my comment above, I agree with this.

WOWP will lose out to WT, but as part of whole WG package, it probably still has a future.

However, WG’s decision to make 3 separate games, combined only by economy and not game-play, is increasing looking like a really bad move.

                • Man,in WT should be option to play without planes. now they are testing planes “vs” / with tanks, but it looks that its good only for RB and SB(FRB).

Next i have to agree with Sense,3 game split into 3 clients..i dont know,WT “project/plan” called World War seems like good idea and 3 games in one client with (i hope) option to choose type of battle (tanks vs tans or + planes/ planes vs planes + one day ships…yep,it could work)

        • Yes i find the choice of words very revealing, it’s not “WG has very succesful game” is “STILL has faith” implying that the game has not performed and they have reason to drop it but they still “believe” they can pull i out.

This game shouldn’t have happene,d they should’ve pushed warships in force first and forget about shitplanes.
i mean… 4K players on EU server?, and the game has been live for months!

warplanes esport is going to be 1v1?, that’s stupid, you promote it as a 15v15 team game and the esports will be 1v1?, talk about your game being so unplayable you need to prevent having more than 2 planes :D

btw, warplanes still has no ingame tourney support, even when wot has it for +1year
          no clan wars, no clans
          horrible garage UI, slow, cumbersome

        • US server has less than 150 players in queue at any time(maybe sometimes a tad more), you can wait for minutes to play tier 1~3, and when you get into a match it’s usually incomplete teams, 11v11 very common as MM gives up.

from a big profile/big bucks on marketing/excessive development time(it was waaay too long in alpha and CBT and yet they didn’t fix the horrible problems) it is a completel and utter failure, and it’s unsalvageable, once your game has made a shit impression people wont go back to it

  3. - Chris Taylor is still working on a “supersecret project”

I take it is Gasspowered games that WG bought next game then. Well he tends not to disappoint. Tho is games got “smaller” of late compared to the old RTS games he made.

    • I won’t hold my breath
GPG was about large scale RTS games, I doubt they’re working on anything related

      • Nor did I say he was. Just said his games got smaller over time. But he normally don’t disappoint regardless. Even tho SC 2 was above average at times.

  4. “- he played CS profesionally (15vs15 and 30vs30 on cs_assault)” – Hahahaha this literally made me pee my pants, what a troll comment..

  5. Funny “style” they have over there un belarus, they look junkied, not like our handsome EU players like QB :):): Im not gae btw….

  6. - WG apparently still has faith in World of Warplanes, because it is successful in Europe and “has everything ahead of it”
There must be some other Europe I don’t know about. Soviet Russia conquered parelle universe and they force ppl to play WoWp there or what?
