Straight Outta Supertest: HD Client Choice

Source: http://world-of-ru.livejournal.com/3277726.html

Hello everyone,

on the WoT Supertest, a new function apparently appeared – a launcher window, giving you the choice of either downloading HD content, or not.

image

It says “World of Tank HD Client version – we are pleased to announce that now there is a HD client available, that includes high quality vehicle models, new textures of game objects and other elements, reworked in high detail, significantly increasing the display quality. Installing the HD client can take significant amount of time and requires you to download further XX Gigabytes”

In the client the number is 52,45 Gb, but that’s just some arbitrary test number. The part below the buttons says that one installed, it’s possible to switch between HD and standard client at any time.

      • Considering how often the question “separate client/only content” was mentioned I find it quite trollish of WG to call it that way :)

But yeah, it’s just a supertest.

      • What about tank models ? Do we get old render models and HD ones separately or is it just terrain textures shaders and meshes ?

        • From http://ftr.wot-news.com/2014/05/12/12-5-2014/

          - there are no plans to return 8.11 graphics and make the HD optional via settings
          - there will not be a patch 8.11 rollback either
          - there might be a possibility to use lower quality models (not old 8.11 pre-HD models, but HD models with lower resolution)
          - there will not be two separate (HD and not HD) clients

          • HD models from long dinstance look funny like cardboard box and how will loke “low HD” models ? xD

            • I’m not quite interested in long distance details, they can look like cardboard boxes since I’m shooting at general shape anyway and as for enemies I olny care to see where tracks , gun and general direction the tank is facing is, so that I can aim at different modules. Though its nice to see my tank as detailed as possible :)

            • Hard to say but IMHO not.

However someone will surely make a mod sooner or later :)

  1. So this will bring 8.11 for those who need it, and HD could get true multicore, and everyone is happy

      • its a good sign of something we want (or at least the most of us)
wonder what will happen if they add havoc engine and make buildings ‘super HD’
prob resulting in someone driving trough a house and everyone nearby getting CTD
new tactics shoot house close to enemy so it colapses make sure you get back in game before enemy does and drive around him and kill him before he gets back in game…

also really hoping it wont be 52,45 Gb in size… will fit on my PC but i dont want to know what will happen if all players update at the same time asking thousands and thousands of Gb’s at the same moment…

  2. It looks more like a way to dont have a fat installation with HD models… is a good option, at least you can select this.

  4. Ya know, I’m kinda oblivious to this as long as they let me play HD tank models in old render. Just sayin’ I like the way new models and their textures look but HD terrain and effects are just way too distracting for me.

  5. FUCK HD FUCK HD, HD FUCKED UP THIS GAME.

I WANT NORMAL MODE WITHOUT THIS HD.

Guys, let’s be fair. WG is in stone age. They can’t make HD stuff and make them run properly with the engine they have now.

The donkeys who design graphics in WG are some Mongol fuckers without brains. In 2014 they create HD that runs as if it is being stopped by 100 horses.

I want the standard settings like it was in the patch before this one.

      • Still can’t make normal geometry-based tracks, not just rigged flacky-layered nonesense that looks goddamn awful.

          • How ’bout you’ll take a peek in any of WoT ‘HD’ tank folders and find there track segments models and scripts with nodes, describing segments movement? Or maybe open the damn game and look at it, y’know.

    • buy PC.
I was able to make it run on max details 1920×1080 @35-40fps on a 400eur Notebook!
you can have similar desktop for half the price.

imho they should implement some kind of built-in hw check.. if you are running on celeron, it wont even let you run the game…

would stop rage from players playing on calculators or tamagochi…

      • It would be a good idea to check the hardware… BEFORE YOU INSTALL IT!! And FOR NEW PLAYERS ONLY!!!

Otherwise you must deliver the same thing the people wanted. (which means: optimize the game for older PCs also)

      • This is not true , let me explain.

        My computer is:

-GPU: ati radeon R9 270x Overclocked
-CPU AMD 6800k overclocked to 4900Mhz x 4 real cores, not Hyperthreating shit.
        -RAM: 8GB DDR3 @ 2133mhz latency 10-10-10-27
-HD: 2x RAID0 SSD V300 (700-900MB/S read rate almost 5 times faster than the fasters non SSD HD) and the game still go from 80fps to 20fps with high textures and no effects.

When I went to 20fps I check my system resources usage and surprise!!! My cpu usage is from 35 to 40% and GPU 30%!!!! WTF!

There must be a memory leaks and other problems that doesn’t matter how powerfull is your computer.

  6. I’m a bit curious bout armor with seperated clients?

HD-models got reworked armor, on some tanks it made them worse, like t-54.
So playin with non hd client gives me the old armor???

    • That would be pretty stupid and quite impossible to make it work :)

Those “Low Definition” models should be simplified versions of and based on the HD ones.

    • Probably the non-HD version will get the “HD models with lower resolution”. So the same (armor) models underlie the HD and non-HD models.

    • They said it before – non-HD tanks will have the same layouts and schemes as HD ones, just textures will be in lower quality.
And I believe this new seperate HD client is not just about HD tanks. Houses, trees and other stuff will go to HD too, so maybe people with not so strong computers wouldn’t be able to play the game at all in a while, if this seperation wouldn’t be introduced.

  7. i think it would be just enough to put hd textures on tanks, like in 9.0 all tanks looked nicer, even without HD model – those with HD model are just fugly.. i had to put camo on centurion7/1 to look good :/
also this is good new because not everybody has 1TB hhds at home..

    • Not all tanks. T30 looks like it’s made by combining several bars of soap. Soviet 65% laundry soap to be specific.
Как же я люблю старое хозяйственное мыло. Оно было офигенным.

  9. 52GB of client????

Totally unoptimized textures and rendering engine…. I imagine that, they are using BMP uncompressed and not texturing composing engine?

    OMG

Any “state of art” game with HD textures are taking about 10GB uncompressed, and they use composed pixel variable texture nothing about fixed full texture….
