9.1 – Kill Marks Feature

Source: http://worldoftanks.ru/ru/news/1/9_1_mark/

Hello everyone,

here is the EU post for the “Marks of Excellence” – basically, kill rings. Since I don’t see it in the EU post, I will add the conditions required for them from the Russian one.

Basically, it is explained on the Russian site that tank kills aren’t always an objective measure of players quality and that in order to judge the quality, other indicators have to be considered: average XP per battle and average damage per battle. XP is already counted within the mastery badges and so the devs have chosen to use the average damage.

Kill marks are recieved for doing more average damage per battle on that respective vehicle than other players:

- 1 mark: more than 65 percent of players
- 2 marks: more than 75 percent of players
- 3 marks: more than 95 percent of players

Light tanks can achieve them as well, as for the purposes of marks, damage done by other tanks from your scouting counts towards this damage as well. The battles count only from patch 9.1 onwards (won’t be awarded retroactively). The statistics are collected on daily basis. The battles taken into account are the last player session and not from ALL the battles since 9.1.

Marks are awarded only in random battles and only for tier 5 and higher vehicles. Furthermore, the players will be able to see their standings in the Achievement window. If your statistics drop, the kill marks will not be removed (just like a mastery badge). These marks can be disabled in settings.

    • They could implement something very interesting, helpful and nice…but again they screwed up, from 2 reasons imho:

1: It doesnt take into account ALL the battles since 9.1, only from one session of gaming (aka after you disconected, if i undrstood it right)
2: if your statistic drop, the kill markers will not be removed- this is the worst idea ever. what the actual fuck were they thinking???? just why??? you know, every tomato can have a monster game, where he is doing 3k damage and 0.5k damage upon detecting in Tiger, then he doesnt play tiger that day. BAM, insta 3 marks forever on that tank.

I was very enthusiast about this feature… I tought it will be like XVM, that will count all the battles (from 9.1 and beyond), and we could see how good is a player in that tank based on its marks… Yeah, thanks for screwing this up WG. Or did i understood it wrong…?

  1. This is good, I was afraid it would apply retroactively.

What does it mean “last player session”, is it some kind of moving average like Ace Tanker medals (last 7 days)?

PS: What’s with separate TC and CW stats, is there any mention of that? They said they would split those stats but nothing happened so far.

  2. Ya know, i was wondering if they were gonna release that this patch. Definitely happy they decided to release it in patch 9.1.

  3. >Light tanks can achieve them as well, as for the purposes of marks, damage done by other tanks from your scouting counts towards this damage as well.

    only light tanks ?

      • He meant if/why only light tanks receive the scouted dmg on top of their own.
I would agree that every tank should just have a summed up dmg counter, cuz some tanks are best played scouting, even though they’re not scouts (and other way around?), for example: The FV304 (known to some as Bert).
Some people don’t know how to play it as an assault gun and will just use it as an arty and will perform bad, overall.
Others know that you should play it more like an ELC than an arty, thus getting more spotting and more exp. if they only do it for light tanks than the rest is left out.

  4. can i disable them for other players as well? i don’t want to see dicks flying around the field

  5. Does it work on CT already? I have it enabled and didn’t see any rings on my barrel.

  6. I like this…it adds a historicality to the game, since it was well known that a lot of tank crews would do just that during WWII as they added kills (kinda like pilots putting national markings under their cockpit to mark each kill they scored, or bomber crews painting a bomb for every mission they survived). I’ve heard rumors of some German tanks where the barrel had so many kill marks that it was basically solid white, but I’m not sure if those are true (I think someone mentioned it in one of the Chieftain’s posts on the NA forums).

  7. Meh, I still like it, but I’d rather have the marks be re-calculated every week or month, and be removed from people whos statistics dropped. It would actually mean something and be something to fight for repeatedly.

Rewarding a guy like me that has a random great battle with the same award that goes to the every day good performers isn’t that motivating.

I like the stripes looks very much.

  8. Should be useful for non XVM users.

Hold on wouldn’t non XVM users now target tankers with these kill marks seeing as they are good and their death means better chances of winning ????

    • whas thinking the same…
imagine all players see your rings, then one says look he has most rings lets kill him…
ends in pro players being killed in both teams, left over the noobisch players.
with “pro” players you have some kind of chance you can say who will win,
but with noobish players you never know, they might go afk, swim, teamkill, rush, jump off a cliff and such things…

      • It also means trying to kill the 3 killmarks guy will most likely get you killed in the process, so it’s all fair and square…

I dont like that the markings are permanent.
