On Football Mode

Hello everyone,

no doubt you have already played the new football (soccer, for our American friends) mode, that came along with the FIFA World Cup (that penalty against Croatia was meh btw…) – anyway, that mode is just pure fun :) Requires a lot of coordination though. Here are a few tips from Russial player Awasaky, who suggests the following:

- since the vehicle is invulnerable anyway, install toolbox (50 percent repair bonus), rammer and stabilizer
- as for consumables, you can use engine regulator without worrying, the engine doesn’t get broken, the gasoline consumable is useful as well
- as the crew (single crewman!) skills, start with repair, then BIA

Considering you can turn the crew training on and the XP for that one guy will get doubled in every battle, you can level up your crewman extremely fast (you get to keep him at the end of the event, he will get transferred)

Personally, I like this mode a lot, although without a platoon, the coordination is very difficult. Just like in real soccer, there are endless situations. Although, what I (as well as Russian players) did notice is the fact that in random battles, when a team scores, some players seem to do this:

If you do this, the ball is completely blocked (you can shoot it as much as you want) and the leading team will win the match. The mode is also not flawless, look what is possible:

      • ‘Muricans say soccer. He said it like that so both Americans and non-americans would understand.

        • oh i know muricans say soccer……….but probably one of the most annoying misuses of the english language and a big FU to the country that actually invented the game massive pet hate of mine

          • Football has the oblong ball and big fat hairy guys, soccer is the one where they kick the ball around the field. My 7 year old niece can even tell the difference, and she PLAYS soccer! Gawd you are SO out of touch!

          • Glad we’ve settled that. Now lets discus which floor is the first floor!

          • Well, that ^^^ just serves as evidence of your stupidity. The term ‘Soccer’ which you say is a ‘misuse of English’ actually comes from British/Proper English. It has it’s roots in the game’s official name, Association Football…. asSOCiation… SOCCER. It’s British slang for the game you call Football. Americans use Soccer because we tend towards a more slang-like version of the Queen’s English… and because some guys from Ohio had already invented a game with an elongated ball that they called football, because it was similar to rugby, which is in turn similar to Football, AKA Soccer. So next time you want to spout your ignorance, think twice. Soccer isn’t the fault of American stupidity. It’s your own damn fault.

      • Jesus fucking christ, everywhere on the internet people are having this utterly retarded discussion. Can you fucking drop it already? Some call it football, others call it soccer. Big Fucking Deal. As if that’s the only thing on your mind. This idiocy is shitting up comments sections all over the interwebs.

        • Yeah, the discussion is annoying but guess who’s making it like that. Yep, ‘muricans. I call their sport handegg anyway. It’s a good name.

          • I like it when, I am assuming you are not an American, non-Americans call out ‘Muricans for being disrespectful and stupid, when they themselves say slang such as ‘Muricans, and get mad because someone was polite and considerate for a diverse audience. Gives me a good chuckle.

      • ‘Soccer’ is actually an English English [sic] term derived from the full name of the game (Association Football). It is common in English-speaking countries to use the term ‘football’ for the most popular local game from the football family, e.g. American Football in the US or Rugby Football in New Zealand, even if feet aren’t used as much as they used to.

    • So lame, really, it’s just lame. Played some games yesterday with two friends and for god sake, we didn’t see such BS

      • Well..if the retards try this, get some distance and ram into the huddle with one or two tanks at full speed, that should break up the pile. :D

  1. Unfortunately for me, it took at least 2 min in the queue to get into a battle (mean time, 7-9 PM).

Since there’s 1000exp (accelerated training) even when you do nothing for 5 minutes, I was aftraid there would be bots and AFK’s who just leave the battle.

I’m glad I was wrong so far.
    gj, WG

    • Yes, bots plays this mode. Found one in platon thx to adon from stormshadow, he has a clan tag as bot xD

  2. That game where one of our players got outside the arena was soo funny. Big thanks to the guys on the other team for not continuing with the game. Also if you’re looking to join an English speaking clan then we might be the people for you. Send me a message in game (same username).

  3. Yap, this mode is fun. And I agree about that fast crew training, in just 4 games commander got ~40% of the first skill.
Thank god I didn’t manage to meet those ball-blockers and AFK’s so far.

But putting gold consumables and modules on Sport tank… yap, that is exactly what WG wants – more ways to get real money from players.. Same thing about later mooving EXP to MS-1, just to someone converts it to FreeXP..

    • Sure it’s what WG want. It’s also obviously what players want, so no problem there.

    • You realize gold consumables can be purchased with credits don’t you? No real money spent.

And as far as the xp being moved to the MS-1, with accelerated crew training on, that’s not an issue, so once again, no gold being spent, unless somebody wants to spend it.

  4. Fun game… best fun I’ve had in Wot for a year or so, excluding Borsig and WTF Pz4 spamming.. :D

The queue for platoons is almost instant… unlike the 1-2 minute queue for solo players…
I created a channel Football Platoons (although I only ever saw about 6 people in it lol…)
If you’re desperate for platoons, join my or other Football channels, most were empty, but anyone in them is automatically wanting to toon it up for a game… better than spamming the Gen Chat

In game i put in Toolbox, Rammer and Vents… not using any consumables at all.. not worth it considering the randomness of the game…

  5. If Karl was fun then this is absolutely hilarious. Yesterday (including 3am too :) I only played this, nothing else

The lockout after the goal SS describes can be broken by all-team push on enemy tanks (they are not usually coordinated enough to counter-push with equal force, eg. 3 tanks together). I was pretty surprised that it can be played like pool – the point where you hit the ball (via shooting) plays important role as it influenced the ball direction a lot.

However, there could be a few second pause between a goal and kickout, its pretty easy, when the situation is desperate, to let enemy score and get ready in central circle to shoot right after the ball appears.

  6. Loading screens said game time is 5 minutes, while it is 7 minutes…

Just a little bit of fail

  7. I enjoy the game mode a lot, it’s most fun when platooning(SS it would be awesome if you said hi to The_Scarecrow for me, I had a great time playing along with him). As a Croatian, I have to say that the penalty was nit meh, it is a disgrace to football.

  8. I also recommend the crew to have the Clutch skill, Snapshot or rammer, really useful.
For installments i use loadreducer and rammer :)

  9. Yep, that Jap ref was blind, which is understandable since their eyes are almolst closed.

There was no damn penalty and the Croatians deserved to win, they showed it.

    • Yeah Croatia dominated the first 30 mins of the game, and kept putting pressure on Brasil. If that idiot referee didn’t give Brasil that penalty, Croatia would have undoutebly be able to draw the game out, maybe even win. But on the bright side, Brasil scored the first goal of the cup.

  10. It would be much better if tracking was disabled. Not a F from football in matches where people focus on tracking each other. Sometimes i got tracked probably 30-50 times a match, it’s just annoying, not fun.

  11. we were better all match against brazil..that is politics(FIFA) for you in fotball..but never mind we play good and brazil dont..they will just past the group and that will be it for them..AJMO HRVATSKA ;)

    • Nah, that just football.
Although that was not hand-play when we scored one goal!

    • world football footbal – organised by FIFA – is probably one of the most corrupt sports in the world….how a 70 y/o insanist is in charge of the beautiful game says it all…..he’s like the modern day version of j edgar hoover! he must have something to hold over everyone so he can keep his job. the only reason that these big events go to places like russia and qatar is money and back handers, the uk/germany/holland/ etc could host the world cup at a months notice with virtually no infrastructure to build, however they give it to countries that HAVE to spend billions on upgrading or building facilities…..its all just an enormous money making racket

        • oh no, i stopped watching football a few years ago when players wages started going over the sort of £70k/week threshold as its basically obscene, basically footbal is a morally and (soon to be) financially bankrupt game!
this old aphorism rings so true:-
rugby – thugs game played by gentlemen
football -gentlemans game played by thugs

          • Have you also stopped listening/buying music because those flithy rich tax dodging musicians are earning too much?
Maybe you’ve also stopped playing vitual tank games because the company making it has made obscene profits for giving a cack service?
            This is called capitalism….

Maybe you could go the library and get out all those Charles Dickens books you’ve never read, at least he won’t earn too much and you won’t be giving anyone very much at all.

  12. Pain in the fecking arse when the other team scores, then 3 of them pin the ball against the wall and you can’t move it.

WG should put in a “throw-in” patch for the game, so that the ball resets to the middle if it doesn’t move for 30 seconds, teach those asshats a lesson.

  13. Awesome mode. I’m definitely going for 50 wins and that GLD reward. I hope it will stay after WC ends.
    P.S.
FUCK FIFA AND FUCK THAT JAP REFEREE.

  14. This mode seems to have a preview of Havok simulating the ball’s movement.
