Australian Archives VIII

As always, courtesy of Vollketten (US Server).

Unlike the previous ones, this design is actually neither silly nor completely unprofessional and it just might work, even in World of Tanks. A proposal for a 6pdr gun carrier (built on the Bren Gun Carrier) from 1942 by Sgt.G.Bradsley, a soldier.

  1. Arghmaighad dat handwriting on pic 4… Took me 5 tries to make an overall sence of it. At least i made out why this proposal did not go any further.

    Examination:—- There is little in this submission that the army has not fully considered— that self propelled guns of all kinds are requiring consideration. —-

    Requirements: The carrier is overweighted with the —– this woulöd put too much weight on the carrier. There is nothing in this that is not already —- selfpropelled —-

    • Examination: S—- think that there is little in this submission that the army has not fully considered. Understand that self propelled guns of all kinds are recieving consideration.

      This provides little that is new. The “platform details” miht be a help to AFV. D— S— Phillip commitee in —th p—- — to DAFV production?

      Requirements: The carrier is overweighted with the —- this would put too much weight on the carrier. There is nothing in this that is not already —– — selfpropelled mounts..

      // some handwritings there

  2. If someone had bothered to read the docs they would find that G.Bradsley was a Warrant Officer Class 2 and not a Sergeant. (Sgd.) means signed. You’ll also note there is no letter d in the word sergeant.

  3. 1 – Should think that there is little in this submission that the Army has not fully considered. Understand that self-propelled guns of all kinds are receiving consideration

    2 – This provides little that is new. The “Further Details” might be a help to AFV. Does — Phillip consider it with farming in to DAFV production?

    3 – The carrier is overweighted with the 6 pdr this would put too much weight on the carrier. There is nothing in this submission that is not already (had among) the self propelled mounts.

    Damn cryptic old-school copperplate(ish) handwriting. Again, nice post – thanks.

    — AFV = Armored Fighting Vehicles

    — DAFV = Director Armored Fighting Vehicles (Dude in charge)

    • This proposal is apparently supposed to have a fully rotating gun, however. Check #5 on the second page. I assume that the gun is fixed to the inner hull sides, but rotates above it in any direction. Also, the 6pdr mounted would be much more powerful than the wimpy one on the UC right now.
