Hello everyone,
Russian server has yet another “change your password, recieve 300 gold” event, there was at least one before. In the portal article, it is explained that this is not random.
Recently, few days ago, there was a massive username/password leak (millions of usernames) from the biggest Russian post servers, specifically Mail.ru and Yandex (ironically, Mail.ru company is developing a World of Tanks competitor game, Armored Warfare and is responsible for at least one more World of Tanks clone). As a result, Wargaming decided to provide incentives to players to change the password.
Fortunately, EU/US has no such leaks, but, unfortunately, it also means we likely won’t be getting the same event.
Mehhhhhh darnit !
But how can such huge number of usernames get leaked ? and what would they use them for ?
They are mainly handed off to botnets and used for sending spam, as many (most?) users have the same username/password-combination on everything they sign up for.
(I work for a webhost and handle compromised mailaccounts, among other things)
username/password ;) With millions of them, if you try them all (say, on paypal) you ought to find a lot of people use the same username and password on sensitive websites..
also check what’s our username on WoT, yes it’s an email, and they will use this to spam, phishing, scam or send malicious link to your email. Also emails are used as username on some critical websites you might have registered, like banks, amazon or other that may involved financial transaction and they will try to access those either by matching user/pass, or bruteforce by knowing the username/email.
damnit
“ironically, Mail.ru company is developing a World of Tanks competitor game, Armored Warfare and is responsible for at least one more World of Tanks clone”
What is the other “WoT” clone?
Armored Warfare I guess.
SS said “at least one more WoT clone”. So,AW is one of them, what is the other one?
It’s called Ground War: Tanks

tnx
Hmmm… This website layout looks familiar
Ground War: Tanks.
It’s a Chinese clone bought by Mail.ru. And it’s indeed a clone, since they’ve managed to copy even JagdPz E100, which basically is invented by Wargaming.
Will this be available on EU too?
Read the article again dumbass.
:D
But reading is hard.
Reading makes my eyes bleed. I have special eyes.
My brand
Lets hack some server ;-)
What i don’t get:
WG has the “change password gives you gold” mechanics implemented and use it for events like this.
WG has the automatic “your password wasn’t changed for x months, please change” message system implemented.
Why don’t they go the logical step to automatic “Your password wasn’t changed for x months, earn 150g for changing it!” messages? 150g won’t hurt but are enough of an incentive and 300g events can still be done.
They only give G after major security failures.
So another 300g to my RU account. Already have enough for E-25 :D
“No security-leaks for greedy western capitalists!!” :P … but maybe in the future :S
Russian community gets nice things. EU and NA don’t get nice things, as usual.
After reading the headline I though they are going to charge people 300 gold for changing your password… lel.
I don’t know if you guys know that but (on EU at least) you still get the 300 Gold for changing your Password.. at least I got it last weekend.
I just want to say this works on us server. So far every ftr post about this works on U.S. Not sure about EU server
I can confirm this does not work on EU server..
Perhaps those who are finding it is working are users who didn’t change it the last time they offered 300 gold.
I think they have done this twice on EU & USA, and at least 3 times on RU.
