Polish Wargaming Q&A

Hello everyone,

I am sure that the Polish FTR readers known about Polish Dom1n’s blog – personally, I consider it one of two best non-Russian WoT blogs there are (the second would be Eikarramba’s http://wot-com.de/ in German).

Recently, Dom1n was successful in acquiring some QA answers from Obirian and Quasars, WG EU producers. Now… the latter name might be familiar to some of the older FTR readers. This guy did QA earlier on EU server (once per blue moon) and… it was not successful, to put it mildly. So, take any answers here with a grain of salt. Also, if I mistranslated something from Polish, please let me know, the original Polish source is here.

- in 9.3 ricochet system, you will not be punished for having your shell ricochet and damaging an ally
- ricocheting your shell into an enemy tank will count as your damage
- shells will not ricochet from house walls

(followed by explaining the ricochet mechanics, can be found here)

- new LT8 models have each over 40 thousand polygons
- water does not provide camouflage bonus
- shooting a tank that is under water does not make the shell lose penetration
- there are plans to rebalance LT’s further, the Chaffee rebalance and introducing new LT8′s are the first steps

- tanks are rebalanced based on a set of parameters, including their winrate, they are apparently rebalanced in groups (SS: “tier 6 tanks” in 9.3 for example)
- Stronghold mode is much more popular than CW’s, it’s intended for mass audience
- new motion physics will be released, once they pass internal testing, WG doesn’t want to hurry anything, apparently a new feature will be added: “handbrake” (locking tracks), along with drifting and tanks tipping over on their roof
- 9.3 will bring another batch of optimizations, so the game is playable on weak computers.
- developers are working on SD/HD content split, allowing the players to select, whether they want to download HD content
- tree animation cannot be disabled in settings, because the effect of that animation of FPS is negligible
- the Sherman and M3 Lee (and others) use of rubber-covered tracks is “historical”
- no plans to do anything about inactive accounts, “occupying” good names
- the “realistic track movement” has no effect on gameplay, it is purely visual (SS: as in, it does not for example change the tracks hitbox)
- drowning/suicide punishment system will be reworked, won’t appear in 9.3 for now
- Ferdinand model color is not different from other German vehicles (“maybe it was the lighting”)
- Heavy tanks are doing fine, the “XP for tanking” option will improve them even more
- open-turret vehicles do not have their turrets fly away, because during the ammo rack explosion, the pressure does not build inside to tear it off
- the biggest EU communities are Germans and Polish
- plans to break the dominance of top clans in CW? “Stronghold mode will allow you to pick the opponents of the same skill level”
- WG plans to increase the amount of content for endgame players
- the most popular tier 10 vehicle in the game is IS-7
- the most historical parameter of all in the game is the tank armor
- the exact influence of terrain resistance on tank mobility will not be disclosed
- the reason why Sturmtiger was scrapped is its gun and its alpha
- “national battles” will return as soon as they are fixed (SS: remember that crap?)
- historical and “national” battles were removed for rework due to their low popularity
- no plans to introduce MTLS or BT-SV to EU server
- multicore support will come after Havok is implemented
- EU tree will come in 2015 (SS: yes, that is actually planned as far as I know)
- T-34-3 buff will come “soon”
- developers are considering the return of the Karl mode and the Soccer mode
- arty will not be removed from the game
- it’s possible Havok will come in 9.4 (SS: nope, Storm said no)
- no plans to remove the arty hardcap (5 per battle)
- it’s possible bigger maps (1500×1500) will come in the future, but definitely not in 2014
- there are plans for a single-player mode with bots
- T-50-2 will not return
- the new motion physics model will be “realistic enough so the battles are dynamic and interesting”

  1. - no plans to do anything about inactive accounts, “occupying” good names

Aww, people are sad that they can’t be the 1,200th Erwin Rommel playing as a 47% and instead have to come up with another name. How terrible.

    • But this is not just what they are talking about.

I have posted earlier about how some names are locked up. The example I gave was the German name I wanted, ‘ZYKLOP’. That name was taken back in 2012 and had 2 games at the LOLtraktor and has never been used since.

And just do a player search on a common name. Something like 250 variations with only about 50 active users.

So it’s not just about being the 999th Otto Carius. It’s about having more choice (and remember you pay 2500 gold to change the name) and cleaning out some dead wood.

      • Then there is a thing called PR. If you want to boast that your game has a gazillion of players it’s counterintuitive (from the marketing perspective) to purge a large chunk off that number just because accounts are inactive since the Big Bang.

  2. “- 9.3 will bring another batch of optimizations, so the game is playable on weak computers.”

    Lies and propaganda! :)

“- no plans to introduce MTLS or BT-SV to EU server”

Is there a logical reason apart from incompetence and laziness?

“- “national battles” will return as soon as they are fixed (SS: remember that crap?)”

If they are FIXED, I would like them back on :P

“- developers are considering the return of the Karl mode and the Soccer mode”

    Good.

“- there are plans for a single-player mode with bots”

Well, good, I am all for it… however I want a SURVIVAL mode with friends or even dare I say… random players. I prefer that to pure SP this time. Of coarse, both will be great!

  3. I wanted to get that Czologista nick finally. Damn you WG.

How many idiots had to ask for japanese tanks depression nerf so that question gets in inner circle of questions/answers?

        • It’s even mixed up in the original post. If I remember well, national battles were simply matter of MM, while historical battles were a game mode. And if they talk about “low popularity” they must mean historical battles (which had long waiting queues even with lowtier vehicles). I cant even remember if national battles could be unchecked in settings (same way as encounter or assault can be) but I guess that majority of player simply dont know they can switch some modes off (confirmed in Q&A some time ago, if i recall correctly some 20% of players have some mode switched off). It would mean that national battles were as popular as the MM allowed.

    • I did enjoy National Battles as well. They were bringing some freshness into the monotony of random battles, even if they werent too well-balanced.

  4. “- Japanese tanks will not get a gun depression nerf (SS: who the hell is asking these things)”

Someone who got killed by one of the three active Japanese tanks on the server peeking over a ridgeline, or a fan of US tanks that feels they lost their nieche?

      • That tumor is weak only if someone is standing idle like an idiot, murrican tanks have such good handling on thier guns that you can perfectly move alot and keep accuracy good. Additionaly, tumor is a spotting point, you might not benefit from bushes because of it but you sure can spot from behind cover without moving your entire hull out.

TL;DR that tumor is not a disadvantage.

        • Uhm… Bullshit?
The tumor is a spotting point, yeah. It gets YOU spotted while you can’t see shit. The rest is true, complaining about a tumor on a paper medium is like complaining about weak side armor of a light tank.

        • Aaaand you can hide that tumor by hulldowning on a slope, using your depression to the maximum. :)
I only played a few T-29 battles on a friend’s account, that were really fun. But M6 has been pushing me back since 2011 !

    • In polish question is not about nerf. It says that depression supposed to be japs main feature but USA ain’t any worse. Question is whether it gonna change.

  5. I liked national battles(confrontation) a lot. There was nothing better than seal clubbing those poor IS-8s in my E-75. :D
But it was a nice mode in general, aside from the fact that people were flocking to OP tanks like KV-1S and Hellcat. Imagine what would happen if WT E-100 was available back then. :D

  6. “Apparently a new feature will be added: “handbrake” (locking tracks), along with drifting and tanks tipping over on their roof”

This! Meds and lights would need some rebalancing with that. Imagine med passig you at full speed, and then, suddenly he is on your ass. Or light tanks doing sick dodge thanks to handbraking

    • Locking tracks will not make you turn to the side, it will make you turn roughly around the center of the track that is locked. So the situation that you describe is not happening with ‘handbrakes”. It is happening already by pass->turn -> hit the brakes -> some drifting -> your are on his tail.

Dodging bullets though by handbraking is not a good idea, you will loose way to much speed and end up as a sitting duck.

      • I wonder if track locking is going to be a way to do controlled sliding (drifting anyone?).

    • Lol, you know its exactly what you do in War Thunder GF when you press A/D longer?
So with new physics WoT tanks will behave like WT:GF tanks?
So the thing WoT fans criticize most on WT:GF will now be implemented?
I possibly will die through laughing!

      • I’m pretty sure the thing most people criticized about WT tanks was the amount of drifting you did when you turned hard. WoT tank handling is a long way from being anything like WT, even if they introduce handbrake turning.

        • There is no drifting at all in WT when Tank is fully upgraded and you do it correctly (means pressing A/D repeatedly instead of holding).
And turning hard at 40km/h will most probably make you loose tracks in real life.
So, you wanna turn hard? Switch gears down, then turn…

      • The thing here is that in GF the movement optimisation was so poor (when i first tried it) that the game was unplayable, i was affraid of seing that in WOT.
But than they fixed it a little.
Well at first it was weird… but later on it became so natural and cool that WOT now feels funny-weird and boring.
The main problem with GF is their tank physics when tanks colide or hit a bigger object… extremely unrealistic and annoying

If you will have clutch on a separate keys it should be really interesting …or maby one clutch key like now but you use it together with the A or D… so we dont experience unexpected clutches like in GF (damn, i didnt want to show them my ass !)

The game will become more realistic and the driving skill will matter. No more CoD style gameplay.

      • And I’ll quickly die the same way you will. :D Most criticizers haven’t fired up Ground Forces since the start of OBT. I’m not saying it’s perfect ofc, especially with the nasty effects of network lag. However, it’s not really a Gaijin branded feature, just a more realistic approach to tracked vehicle movement. I’m glad they finally implement more notions of inertia in WoT, the physics update (can’t remember the version) brought many cool features but still felt like a disappointment on that regard. Scouting might become a tad bit more complicated, but noob drivers turning on their roof will be a fun sight. :)

  7. “- no plans to introduce MTLS or BT-SV to EU server”

Good. I want my BT to remain rare :)
But in the other hand.. MTLS would be nice to have. Damn you life, why so many dilemmas!

    • I think they will make it as WT-Gf, where u can grind exp and some money, probably new medals. They could make it available for platoons also. Good idea, if the random will be asskicking you, you can kick some bot ass

    • It will be something like 60 min. of game time in pve mode and after that you can still play but wont get rewarded. Might be 30 min. daily etc.

  8. - there are plans for a single-player mode with bots

maybe in advanced training where the player can training all vehicle classes against bots

  9. Make it for platoon, pls.
Would be great if I could play with fiends and gain a little something.. :D

  10. - new LT8 models have each over 40 thousand polygons
    My A> A painstakingly work

EU tree will come in 2015 (SS: yes, that is actually planned as far as I know)
My A> They better be right…

    - arty will not be removed from the game
My A> Removing Artillery… Seriously who come up with that Idea(some ANGRY players who really hate “Death from Above”, “SkyCancer”, and etc.)

    - T-50-2 will not return
My A> No need it(trying to get the LTTB)… *looking at the WoT Viewer* hang on whers the turret(Oh wait Soccerball)

  11. - there are plans for a single-player mode with bots

Every 3rd battle in randoms is a single player against 29 bots.

  12. - T-34-3 buff will come “soon”
most OP medium Tier 8 tank in the game
i rather want it be removed or nerfed hard

  13. That question about those rubber-covered tracks… Who the hell is that dumb?! Even light German Schwerer Ladungsträger Borgward B IV (explosive carrier, one of them exploded during Warsaw Uprising killing a lot of civilians) had those. WTF? There actually were streets back…
And Sherman had tracks made of a steel frame with flat rubber moulded blocks…

Yes, I know… butthurt. But when you are trying to ask “historical” question do a litlle bit of reserch…

“- developers are considering the return of the Karl mode and the Soccer mode”
YES! I want my Karl back!

“- Ferdinand model color is not different from other German vehicles (“maybe it was the lighting”)”
Polish answer was about lighting settings not just lighting :)

“- arty will not be removed from the game”
When… will they ever stop asking this question…

    • “- arty will not be removed from the game”
When… will they ever stop asking this question…

About the same the they learn to use cover.

      • Tsc tsc….and you noobs still say that crappy argument like “learn to play”, “stay arty safe”, “learn to use cover”, “if you keep moving they will not hit you”, “arty prevents camping”, “arty need a lot of skill, even more than any tank”

        You are a joke

  14. - plans to break the dominance of top clans in CW? “Stronghold mode will allow you to pick the opponents of the same skill level”
    _________________________
Who the fuck asks this questions? Some baddie who still haven’t learned how to play after 20k battles and is jelly of top clans.

    • It is funny when the tomato clans get their jimmies rustled in a pub match then proceed to post on forums how they are going to ally all “small clans” and overthrow the “big ones”.

Breaking the dominance of top 10-15 clans would require these bad players to acknowledge they are bad and learn how to play differently. Not going to happen after 30k plus battles at <50% WR.

  15. “- EU tree will come in 2015″
I’ve always wondered how the crews would work for that one. (moving them from one tank of one nationality to one of a different nationality)

“- there are plans for a single-player mode with bots”
I can’t wait to hear more on that.

    “- T-50-2 will not return”
Is it because the T-50-2 would be a little redundant now? Considering the potential of the 9.3 light tanks, I don’t see why they wouldn’t if they bumped it up a tier or two.

    • Co-up with my friends against some bots in a sort of War Thunder Skirmish/missions would be fun. Give me some menial reward in terms of silver or just a bit of free XP and i’d consider them good fun to be had in the downtime after some horrible games or just to relax.

  16. “- there are plans for a single-player mode with bots”

Wait…what?? I’m pretty sure I’ve already been in battles with 14 other bots. Maybe their just finally acknowledging my team is all bots. ‘That’s not a bug. That’s a feature!’

  17. - new motion physics will be released, once they pass internal testing, WG doesn’t want to hurry anything, apparently a new feature will be added: “handbrake” (locking tracks), along with drifting and tanks tipping over on their roof

Finally! it’s going to be so awesome!

  18. You dont need single player mode so long you can do better historical battles for the low tiers.

I think what is really missing are less brutal meta games and intriguing historical battles for the less hardcore daddy gamers to bank WG.
