A Blast from the Past – 0.8.4

Hello everyone,

I have something interesting for you. Pointyhairedjedi (you probably know him, youtube videos and all that) made a video about his replay from… 0.8.4. Now, seeing this, it just actually feels awkward to see all those things you could not do, like shooting through soft objects. Or the suspension, that’s just glued to the ground, the tank is not even rocking.

I do not agree with Jedi’s assessment of the JT88 though, for me it actually is one of the best premiums, probably because I enjoyed the original Jagdtiger as well. In the replay, the team totally folded, showing us that the reality of random battles in “good old days” (this was even pre-arty nerf) was just as harsh as it is today. Well, okay, maybe not THAT bad.

But… wait for the second half after the team dies. THEN it gets amusing :D

  1. Hey SS, didn’t you mean 0.7.4? New physics were introduced in 0.8.0 so I guess this one must be older.

  2. Sometimes it’s interesting to remind I started playing in 0.6.3.8
Any way to watch 7.0 replays? The utility linked inthe video works for 7.2 onward, I might have found something for 7.1, still miss 7.0 then my replay archive might be used :D

  3. Jt88 and Kv5 are both very efficient credit grinders, due to the 250cr cost for AP rounds and the limited MM.

  4. The tank physics is just as shit as in the old days. WG only improved tracks simulation and allowed tanks to climb/go down areas that were prohibited before.

But the suspension physics is the same old shit. I still get roflstomped by a rock the size of a ball, or by those walls made out of mud etc etc.

Friction is not simulated. The tracks are just a model and are not simulated by the the master server, otherise there is no explanation for such shit physics where the suspension basically clips throught the fucking ground, rocks, walls etc. Complete shit.

It’s heavily scripted behaviour, especially when driving on a very small but very angled terrain portion and slows down the shit of your tank. We know that tanks have a max climb degree and that slowdown happens because the server thinks you are climbing a wall, when in reality it’s just a small patch of terrain heavily angled upwards.

    • Well, china didnt allowed wg to use their Tianhe-2 to calculate the tracks/physics and motion system server side in an 100% correct way for like 9000 simultaneous battles

    • Better than WT. In that you drive down a hill and your tracks magically come off
