Interview with Aleksei Kornyshev (WG E-Sports Project Manager)

Here’s an interview with some WG e-sports PM by the name of Aleksei Kornyshev. I hate translating interviews literally, so here’s a summary of what’s in it. it’s (shockingly) mostly about e-sports:

- e-sports-wise, WG “matured” in 2014 and introduced new features to WG League
- biggest success for WG e-sports is the launch of the new “attack/defense” mode, which is a joint effort of pro cybersports players and WG game designers, it caused the e-sports battles to be more dynamic instead of campy
- there were no unsuccessful (unmet) goals in 2014 in e-sports
- additional player promotion functions will be introduced this year: in team battles (TB) will have static (pre-made) teams with rating, players will be able to show how good they are in TB and will be able to fight for the title of the strongest TB team in the region
- WG stats show that in TB, players are using all sorts of vehicles and not just “e-sports setups”
- the role of armor in e-sports is not always positive, some say that it negates the tactical element in e-sports
- RNG is not a problem in e-sports, other e-sports games (DOTA 2) have random elements as well
- 2015 WGL Grand Final will be “full of surprises as always”

  1. - RNG is not a problem in e-sports, other e-sports games (DOTA 2) have random elements as well
Yeah but dota 2 isn’t based entirely around RNG, unlike WoT.

      • Irrelevant, poker has a whole element of bluff and guess-work behind the randomness that players can and have to use.

WoT? Well when RNGesus won’t let you pen the side of an IS7 with 350mm pen APCR 4 times in a row, you can just GG WP out of there.
You did everything right, but RNG decided to sent 2 of your shells in the bottom of the tracks, one in the bullshit magical spaced armor (that’s only about 200mm equivalent, but can stop 300mm+ pen shells all day), and one ricochet’d on the turret.
GG, you played as you should have, but pure luck > skill.

25% RNG, with an additional accuracy nerf to boot means the only real thing you can do now is brawl in CW and E-sports. Anything else is either extremely situational (like 7v7 ESL matches on Prokorovhka) or just play inferior to using brawling tanks very aggresively.

There’s a reason why DOTA’s rng is very, very limited, and heroes with randomly procc’ing abilities are only picked if their 3 other abilites outweigh the pointlessness of a random ability.

        • Well, for one, you won’t see IS-7 in WG’s E-sports. 2nd, everyone in the top league knows where to shoot IS-7 to minimize the chance of that happening. If you get 4 shots in a row failing, then you were likely aiming stupidly or used some tank that failed due to big aim circle (possibly autoloader).

And I disagree with your second paragraph – top teams are able to completely destroy weaker teams from afar. The reason they brawl is that they all have comparable skillset, and so they know that they have to get close, usually to maximize the potential of autoloaders.

          • ” everyone in the top league knows where to shoot IS-7 to minimize the chance of that happening.”

Thank you for ignoring what I said, and still making my point.
You can know where to aim all you want, the shells don’t go exactly where you want. But yeah, I agree, I must have only been aiming stupidly, using an AMX50B and aiming under the spaced armor strip at the incredible distance of 100m an aiming every shot.
Only possible explanation as to why I failed, rather than the ridiculous accuracy and RNG factor in this game.

Oh, and if my second paragraph was wrong, you wouldn’t have tomato teams with 5% chance of winning actually winning games.

      • Poker has a very low Entropy factor and is mostly a skill based game with lots of psychological factors in the gameplay. RNG plays almost no role when pros play Poker.
Check out some poker videos on youtube, very englightening.

  2. - there were no unsuccessful (unmet) goals in 2014 in e-sports
WELL THE SAME CAN ALSO BE SAID ABOUT THE FAQING GAME ITSELF INNIT MATE

  3. 25% RNG on paper, but let’s not forget what one of devs said: “50% rng, 50% skill.” Sorry, WoT in esports it’s a sad joke.

  5. players will be able to show how good they are in TB and will be able to fight for the title of the strongest TB team in the region

And then their dicks will grow to whole 5 cm.

    - WG stats show that in TB, players are using all sorts of vehicles and not just “e-sports setups”

Yeah, it’s simply because retarded noobs take every shit they have in their garrages and enter the team battle mode.
And then non-random e-sport setup beats the shit out of them in no time.
