- even if the tanks turn more quickly in new physics, this will not be compensated by an aimtime gun nerf
- one of the ways considered to simplify the motion physics and make the tanks more user friendly than they are on the test is the following: pressing W – you go forward. Stop pressing W while going forward, an extremely experienced driver will stop the tank as fast as possible without sliding. Press S while going forward, the tracks will lock (the way the handbrake does in current physics test) – it works the same way when you go backwards and press W. The handbrake works only until the tank starts moving to the direction, indicated by the key you are pressing (eg. starts reversing after going forward, when you keep pressing S).

    …for the time being.

    • It only apply when you’re stationary but with any forward motion your tank will actually turn slower. T-62A and T-54 are slugish as hell unless turning with your handbrake and losing all your speed.

        Did we expect something else from WG?
        I mean, we will see two test iterations – a bugged, more realistic one and a maybe not bugged, arcade style one – and then we should decide which one is better.

    • Why the hell would it need an aim-time nerf? If you nerfed anything you’d nerf the turning rates on the suspensions.

    Press W – S hold it for x seconds – than hit handbreak – double turn R L select start = 10000 gold?

  4. They can’t complicate things that much, it will be annoying gameplay for good players and it will be downright suicidal for the massive amounts of tomatoes that comprise the vast majority of the game…somethings have to stay the way they are.

    if the devs like physics go and play Kerbal space program and leave WoT as is.

    • Leave wot as it is ? Yeah dude sure,are you one of those that would prefer wot in alpha over now? Adding improvements to physics is never a bad thing.. Step by step it’s improving.. This game won’t have this engine forever :)

      • His point is there’s nothing wrong with the current physics in the game, there’s really no need to fix what isn’t broken. And unless WG goes to Crye or some other engine completely, they simply are not going to get Havok to work at all, so they are wasting time on these physics when they could be using their time better to improve something else far more important, like the goofy spotting system.

        • spotting system cant change even though it looks silly it is the only way to stop (with FPS players words) wallhack
          nothing is wrong with current physics in game yes but there was nothing wrong before too but they want to challenge you to play the game diffrently
          people were complaining about corners now you can slide turn and not get trapped

          now you can turn your tank while you are tracked which is a big plus to game

          it isnt much of a big improvement for the game but hey if they wouldnt come up with new things people would leave why do you think they keep patching the game every 2-3 month instead of a big patch in one day?

      • Also, the new motion physics apparently fixes the whole getting stuck on some parts of the maps issue and such.
        The stepped terraces on Pearl River, have you tried driving down the terraces trying to flank an enemy and got stuck there?
        Driving next to a vertical cliff and your tracks touches the tiny sloped part near the wall? Sometimes your speed drops, by a lot.

        • The getting stuck when dropping down somewhere is not a physics problem, it’s a problem derived from their extremely limited number of ground contact points. From a mechanical point of view, all our tanks are driving on four wheels and not on tracks.
          Same is true for getting stuck on scenery. Your wheels simply loose ground contact, although the tracks should visually and logically not have any problems with passing the given obstacle.

    I’m more concerned about lights and fast meds being unable to circle the enemy any more if traverse speeds are increased.

    • Has anyone tried a 180° spin using a SPG? If artillery pieces can do the spin move, they could end up shotgunning a lot more light and medium tanks. Just saying…

      • The problem with arty self defense isnt the turning speed, it’s the rng.

        When I gotta self defense the shot is always in the right direction, but either it goes too high either too low.

        Ok for arty being inacurate at long range, but at short range it should be ultra accurate. IRL the only way you can miss a heavy tank at 30m from you with a 21cm caliber gun is to be drunk and fall on the gun making it go up…

        Besides, on test server, when you wanna play arty, you end up in a game with 10 members per team and only two hetzers for 8 SU-5 per team. Try to test any battle performance like that.

        • it can’t be because then it’s OP, if something’s good at long range, then it can’t be good at short range as well, arty in WOT is kinda like a sniper rifle.

          and + i already get hit by arty in CQC encounters too much already, even post 9.6…

    Ladies and gentlemen it’s time to play WOT Underground 2. Still waiting for them to introduce riders of the storm feat. Snoop dog and in 9.8 implement the new fun mode Pimp my tank. Hint for them to introduce the cool rain effects from the xbox. Bring on the bling bling gold shells

  12. Ehh, I don’t care for the “simplified” controls.

    What we had in the physics test was similar to what we have on live:
    W makes you go forward
    Letting go of W makes you coast
    Pressing S while going forward uses the brakes, and vice-versa

    It was familiar and comfortable for existing players, accessible for new ones, and the addition of the handbrake function to an otherwise redundant button (does anyone actually *use* the brake button instead of the more intuitive S?) heightened the skill ceiling on something that has been pretty stale since physics were introduced: driving. Why would you “simplify” it by completely changing how the controls work?

  15. 5% royalties on gross income after the first 3k USD would mean a lot for WoT…
    Only the engine is for free, it’s use is not.
    Anyway, even if the best engine on earth was for free, yuo can bet Sovietgaming wouldn’t change anything.
