8.10 preliminary patch notes

Storm posted preliminary patchnotes. Test will be almost certainly next week.

8.10 changes:

- added Japanese branch (as per this tree)

- added Soviet tier 9 medium Object 430V2 (to be researched from Object 416) and tier 10 medium Object 430
- Japanese premium Chi Nu Kai will be available from ingame shop for gold
- for supertesters, two new vehicles: SU-76i (tier 3 Soviet TD), Type 98 Ke-Ni Otsu (tier 3 Japanese light tank)

- added new Japanese-themed map “Hidden Village” for testing (1000×1000, spring, village in mountain valley)
- following maps have been fixed and reworked for better gameplay: Karelia, Mines, El-Halluf, Airport, Steppes

Graphic improvements:

- reworked lighting on all maps: reworked the brightnest, contrast, color intensity, lighting sources were properly placed
- fog has been completely reworked
- added moving shadows from clouds
- added the option in graphic settings to select one of several presets for color, brightness and contrast settings
- completely reworked the bloom effect
- added the effects of sun rays (“God Rays”) and lens flare when looking at the sun
- added motion blur effect

Fixes and reworks:

- AP and APCR shells can now penetrate soft (breakable) objects, while suffering penetration loss, the object is destroyed in the process
- significantly reworked the Missions window
- added the info about current event bonuses and discounts into the client
- fixed the bug where some stats for some players on some tanks are missing ever since 8.9
- added some fixes in the Achievement window
- the possibility to gain epic achievements and medals in company games has been removed (including Survivor, Kamikadze, Raider, Bombardier and others)
- added numerous fixes in Team Battles interface
- fixed the bug where sometimes, the server-side settings for some users wouldn’t save properly
- added the possibility to record only one replay of your last battle: you will have one replay file only, containing the last battle you have played, that gets overwritten everytime you play a battle
- in the post-battle statistics, credits and XP for courageous resistance have been separated from all the others
- fixed the shape of T69 and T54E1 tanks’ turrets
- fixed the “IS-3″ turret armor of WZ-111 model 1-4 tank
- fixed the appearance of the pike nose of the Lorraine 40t tank
- fixed the bug where RhB WT drowned too early (in too low water)
- fixed the barrel length of the 12,8cm gun on RhB WT
- added the welds an a “window” under the aiming device for WT-E100
- improved the hitpoints of all tracks of all KV and IS tanks
- fixed the Object 140 turret armor
- Maus turret rotation improved by 2 deg/s
- Lowe buffed: upper side armor 20mm thicker, weight reduced by 2,5 tons, ammorack increased by 40 shells, improved elevation and depression angles
- fixed the performance drop bug during the appearance of the “tank destroyed” message
- fixed the bug where disabling voice chat stopped working in some cases when you exit the battle
- fixed the was damage works when hitting upper side of the spaced armor
- fixed the rare “ghost shell” bug (where shells pass thru enemy tanks)
- fixed the silhouette display, when you take cover behind a tank corpse
- fixed interface “flash freezes”, when displaying a large number of UI elements
- fixed the bug where the camera turns inadvertedly when you switch to artillery mode in the moment your SPG gets hit
- the free XP conversion from vehicles is now happening in the order in which the tanks are displayed in the window (upper ones go first)
- returned the “last time in battle” piece of information to the achievement window, that was previously removed
- fixed the bug where the average XP per battle displayed incorrectly for individual tankers
- fixed the IS-7 error message about radioman skills
- fixed the bug where players were sometimes kicked from server with “spam_protection” stated as reason
- fixed the rare bug with client crash during map loading
- fixed the rare bug of player losing control of the tank in combat
- fixed the bug where sometimes an incorrect type of shells was loaded instead of the planned one

    So, it has arrived. I wonder just how much havoc this will cause when it is first released to the live server.

        • It has its issues: i wish they buff HE shells against structures too – like secondary splash radius or secondary dmg. After all, bricks get blown pretty easily, it’s been explosive ordnance that deemed brick fortifications obsolete long time ago…

            • I do do use HE for that ;) , it has its moments, like cleaning cap on sand river encounter. Especially useful with quick loading guns in companies, where you can expose enemy to your teammates. Suddenly, he is naked in the open and big shells start flying :P , surprise!

          • Well, HEs explodes on impact so I dont think it could do any damage now. After the HAVOK gets implemented, it might be different, because house won’t be one big structure, but each brick will be generated.

            • as in every game it will be small sections flying around as calculating every single brick would crash most of the systems… i mean havoc is out since when? around 2000? with big improvements in 2006… it’s about time it gets introduced here ^^

              actually you can now do dmg to enemys behind walls by using splash dmg of he shells and i hope they’ll keep that… at the moment you can take several parts of buildings with one he shell while you can only destroy 1 part of the building with each ap shell so he is better right now if you want to take out buildings/walls

              so ap will lose some of it’s effect on buildings when havoc is introduced but it’ll be optically better as buildings will be able to collapse then… but it might fall into pieces that still reduce your ap-pen…

      • afaik they stated it would be removed with about 90% certainty.
        Looks like it’ll remain though! Still will farm T-54 before patch goes live though, I don’t trust them enough…

    • Yeah same here. I wonder whether this bug when shells hit my top turret armor will dissapear. It really grinds my gears when im aiming to an enemy straight forward and what – top of turret is being penetrated by some random shots…

    You can sort the vehicles in the display in two different ways, by vehicle name or by total XP available. I wonder if the order of XP conversion will also work top to bottom after they are sorted.

  6. Thanks SS, as long as you can turn off motion blur then I think this will be a great patch. Allowing us more control over graphics/lighting is a major thing to me.

  7. I knew they will rework Mines sooner or later, they had to … but what about Redshire, when this will happen ?

    And what about that tropical island map, is this still a go ?

    • Also, when I see “added motion blur effect”, my first though is: “Will it be possible to turn it off, like I do in every other game from last 3 years ?”

      • Most well-built desktops have better GPU’s to handle the load.. I mean, unless you like to keep your coffee piping hot, then by all means continue gaemin’ on laptops. :p

    Wat?? One of the most capable of eating shells alive series are getting tracks buff? Rofl….let’s make KV even more easy mode…it’s not like i got my only two Pools medals in KV-1 few battles after i rebought it just to prove to some people how easy it is to play….

    • But i’m also sure WG will pull out of their arses some evidence of “historically accurate tracks HP” that those two series had irl…..looks like we are gonna see soon the reasons why Zlobny needed to leave and this is just a beginning

      • any buff to the IS series is a welcome buff, my IS4 and 7 could certainly use tougher tracks to eat MORE shells, i’m tired of stupid mongrels in their op t10 meds penning me with hull angled, fuck them.

        • You are knocking on the wrong door…..your problem are medium’s guns OP penetration and it has nothing to do with my post, if any series doesn’t need tracks HP buff it’s KV and IS series…

      • in patch 8.9 didn’t the devs comment on the changes that happened? I’m curious what will they say about this!

      • Are you really that stupid or you are really trying as usual? Simple question, is it easier to kill KV-1 that is moving or the one standing still in the open? Track HP buff=harder to detrack=more shells to eat before finally geting detracked…but why am i even trying to explain this to a noob who is also soviet hardcore fanboi…now you can gladly suck my dick fuckface….

        • The last I heard “shell-eating tracks” had preciously little to do with detracking and very much to do with acting as armour.
          Dumbshit. :)

    Would someone explain this clearly for me? Cause to me it sounds like you only have one replay file that gets overwritten everytime you play a battle.

    • That’s what it is, but it’s optional. This way you can save lots of space. You can still copy the replay to some other place on your hdd to save it or just pick the option to save all replays.

      Good feature in my opinion. Saves lot of “spam” in replay folder.

      • Well… actually. Its easier to pick the ones that had the best games…. instead of rewatching the whole replay saves.. just to find which ones.

        Current replay settings is hard for someone who has bad memory really….

      • Last few patches I have been using the Duke Nukem pack… so he tells me that ‘I have balls of fail’ or ‘looks like holy ground to me’ or ‘OH No What Am I doing’…. which is far more accurate than Dinged us crap.

    I think you made a small typo. It’s kamikaze not kamikadze.

    shitty useless option
    when you die mid battle, go to garage, chose another tank, go into battle with it and the 2nd battle will end sooner than the 1st battle – what battle will be saved? the 1st or the 2nd

    • will be the 2nd because the first game will be overwritten as it is finished as you leave to garage…
      it’s an option not a must…
      replays don’t keep on recording when you leave anyway ^^
      (people tend to forget about causes and consequences…)

  15. Is it only me that hate Erlenberg more than Redshire? This map has the most draw game for me, it’s more than the redshire on my experience. Maybe enemies becomes smarter and not my teammates as they try to drove past the bridge always early or when they see we have advantage on numbers and a minute or two, they are all gone.
