28.1.2014

Just a quick update: this post will appear on FTR Facebook page with delay, as I got a 12 hour ban for that “well-wisher” post, apparently someone reported it :)

- Q: “How come you reduced the alpha to 750 when the Soviets have 750 alpha on tier 8 already?” A: “Suffer, sovietophobe!”
- national battles were implemented because “Storm wanted it”
- Q: “National battles were proposed in 2011, but back then, you said no. What changed?” A: “I got promoted”
- if the national battles prove to be imbalanced, they will be fixed
- WoWs has its own version of the engine
- WoT will be re-worked to run with WoWp render apparently
- if you get teamkilled by an ally, you won’t recieve the bonus XP for surviving battle
- apparently, the national battles were not developed for a long time, it’s an “experiment” (SS: spur of the moment so to say) – later, when the player asks whether it was a sarcasm, Storm answers that no, not really, it was not much work – just one change in the MM mechanism and a few interface changes
- the tankist-sniper medal (for dealing damage at over 300 meters of distance) will be changed to require at least 8 shots (SS: a player on RU forum demonstrated, how he got it for two shots with FV215b 183)
- the “High caliber” medal 20 percent HP requirement won’t be lowered
- Storm states that the old render will not be supported, it will die out over the years
- if I understand it correctly, the manual vertical aim will be implemented the way it is in Battlefield tank battles now (SS: sorry, never played BF3 or BF4) – not now, but by the end of the year most likely. It will be optional.

  1. just finished another great bf4 session, amazing game and now stable.
consolidation is the keyword. what was will not be.

      • Yup. I think that Battlefield 5 (Or any other Battlefield games) should follow Battlefield 2 and not have a Campaign. I still play Battlefield 2 to this day because it’s just pick a map, choose your side, and kick ass.

        • Best vanilla battlefield is 2142; sadly not many people play it anymore.
          (too balanced)

Project Reality makes battlefield 2 much more playable; from realism perspective.

          • BF1942 = Great, BF2=Great, BF 2142 = Great, BC2 = Actually pretty good, considering how bad BF3 is, and how even crappier BF4 is… Now they’re just a CoD clone more or less, uber accurate weapon with hardly any recoil ala CoD and miniscule amount of health. No skill involved

            • You forgot Battlefield Vietnam!! That was awesome, Ontos, Hueys, great soundtrack etc

              • Oh yeah Vietnam was great aswell. Battlefield 4… It’s so dumbed down and CoDish its not even fun, before I used to think EA messed it up, but pretty sure DICE just lost it now.

  2. “- if I understand it correctly, the manual vertical aim will be implemented the way it is in Battlefield tank battles now (SS: sorry, never played BF3 or BF4) – not now, but by the end of the year most likely. It will be optional.”

How it is works in BF?

    • I think he means, that you have to compansate the shell drop for yourself. At the moment if you are aiming at a tank, the shell drop gets compensated automaticly.

    • You aim and fire, and the round will fall somewhere short of where you aimed due to dropoff. To compensate, you aim higher than where you want the shell to land. Right now in World of Tanks, at least when aiming at an enemy tank, the gun automatically raises to the elevation you need for your shell to hit roughly where you’re pointing.

      • ..which is epic when you use that british 3inch howitzer….shoot in sniper mode and you dont even see shell flying :)

        • that will be just retarded in WOT, waiting for X magical seconds after ur barrel is already pointing at the enemy + compensating for drop? Thought the whole point behind aim times was to account for gunner adjusting it for you..

1st National battles, now this, WG are shitting themselves.. in the end they’ll give up the HP bars too :)

                • Or removed almost entirely and be set by tank size instead.. but then less people would care about getting to tier10 (just to play 30 games in said t10 tank and forget it) and thats not sumthing WG wants.

Kinda stupid that BL-10 wont 1 shot a tiny E-25, but will send VK3001, KV-1S’s etc to space

          • Nope, it’s not that. The aim time is for moments (like in real battles), where you were unnoticed and you could move the turret back, because you overdid it a bit, the gun a bit up, no, back a bit – you know, all those maneuvres that are necessary in a tank, but with highly precise and easy to use mouse it’s somewhat… less of a hassle (doing it for miliseconds instead of seconds in a tank).

Of course you can always just turn your turret and shoot. Like in real tank battle.

          • Totally retarded to have manual drop compensation, because the drop in wot is alreaddy overexagurated to beginn with, in regard to the distanced we are fighting. Also isnt there enough rng, accuracy and dispersion included, making it hard to hit fully aimed shots?

  3. “national battles … [were] not much work – just one change in the MM mechanism and a few interface changes”

I figured this was the case but I was honestly confused when you mentioned, SS, that the national battles were a waste of resources. While I’d admit that it isn’t the historical mode I’ve been waiting years for it’s at least some kind of mix-up in the current stagnating “game mode” mechanics of the game. Sure tier ten will be pure bullshit but people are overestimating the amount of stat-padders in the game. There are a huge majority of normal players in the game who will play national battles and they’ll make up 99% of the teams with their E2s and T150s to even out the load. I reckon there will be tier 2 games dominated by 5 or 6 T18s and Tier 6s matching 15 Hellcats to 15 KV1Ss, but tier 3-5 match ups will be sweet.

Will just have to wait until release to see if I’ll truly like it though. Who knows it might even be beneficial for balancing the game just that little bit better… (and it could be complete ass, as could their historical mode, and WT:GF could fail hard and there’ll be nowhere else to go for casual tonking)

    • I can’t, for the life of me, figure out why everyone is scaremongering with this 15 of this vs. 15 of that. How often in a normal Random You face a situation that team has only one type of the tank? Why should it be different with National Battles (or Confrontation as it’s apparently the official name)? Is American tree on tier 6 made up only of Hellcat? Easy Eight and Jumbo are aplenty. Less so M6. What about M36? What than with Lights and Arties respective to this tier? And we can say the same about all the trees in the game. Plus how often do You get into a Battle with tanks of one tier only?
It’s a fact that this mode will underline problems in balancing, but with a little of good will from WG that can be remedied. In KV-1S situation we already know, that there is a split planned. We will see how it will come out when it happens, but for the time being lets stay positive. Besides devs can always go “historical” on 1S and give it historical gun depression… ;)
T18 is also easy to deal with. I’m hoping that American Community with Chieftain’s help will manage to convince WG to swap T18 and T57 to their historical roles. Then I would like to see peadobears trying to statpad with it.
Another difficult one will be my personal nemesis on tier IV – Matilda.
And finally there’s another issue that Silent highlighted during his 8.11 test run. Ludicrous level of overspecialisation of anything above tier 8 within French tree, that will be steamrolling over any other Nation. I actually think that France should be excluded from Confrontation mode until at least one of the rumoured branches (AMX-30 or… was AMX65t planned for top of the Heavies?) will bring some variety to top three tiers.
But despite all of this I can’t remember last time I’ve been so excited by a new feature in WoT.

      • Yeah that’s what I was getting at with the 99% of players playing normal. What I was getting at with the 15v15 comment was more that if a tier has a particular stat-padding tank it’ll only be on one side.

As for the T57 -> T18, I think I’d prefer the T18, has a bigger frontal weakspot, the only frontal weakspot of the T57 is the gun breach.

Matilda is pretty damn scary with its high pen machine gun and beastly armour, I worry about it more than the Hetzer really.

I’m looking forward to it, but the real meat I want is Historical battles. 9.0 can’t come soon enough (and be delayed as little)

  4. quote: “- WoT will be re-worked to run with WoWp render apparently”

WG, here’s an advice: prepare for a shit-storm

    • Yeah. Because all tanks will now fly!!

Anyway care to explain your opinion?
Right now I am guessing that it is just the fact WoWp is mentioned.

      • Well I don’t see any difference in wowp renderer… both are the same old sh!t.
I think it’s pointless to “upgrade” from one turd to another turd.
The only thing it will bring, is more bugs to fix…

      • WoWP’s renderer looks like shit because it renders on big maps, but uses smaller texture ratio than Wot. I guess. What I mean is because wot maps are smaller textures can be bigger. But WoWP has huge maps(well compared to wot’s) and using same texturesize ratio would result in huge texture size, resulting in big disk data size(wowp is already huge with 10+GB I think).

      • Why he’s talking about shit-storms?…because WoWP is doing worse optimisation-wise, using it’s current render, than WoT.
They said they’ll first add new graphics stuff and render updates in WoT, and only after that they’ll start optimising them…now guess how nice it’ll be >.>

        • Interesting point Zmeul. If it was because of performance, I can’t agree with that. WoWP runs far better on highest settings than WoT. And also looks better.

If it was because of the compatibility to older or slower systems… I mean. really. Guys it’s 2014. I wondet htat PCs of anno 2000 still can run that game, and people are complaining it runs like shit.

  5. This shit just got even better….

For those who can’t into facebook (because they don’t want to or whatever): the guy who got banned from ftr is calling himself “James Parker”, and damn – even now I just don’t know if he’s trolling, stupid or mentally handicapped. As for why he got banned, I guess it was after I sent SS this link: http://ftr.wot-news.com/2014/01/26/wot-player-commits-suicide/#comment-111460

Just what in the world was this guy thinking when he wrote to SS? Who in their right mind would flame the person who banned him? Who RUNS THE SITE HE WAS BANNED FROM?

    WTF I don’t even…

    • You cant. You and the whole (insane) mankind cant and wont ever understand those “things” (Wouldnt call them humans. Maybe something similar to human beings bacause of the looks?)
The only thing I always wonder about those is, how the heck are they able to survive more than a few seconds while having an IQ of nearly 0? It just wont come to my mind how this is possible.

  6. - Q: “National battles were proposed in 2011, but back then, you said no. What changed?”

Everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

  7. Oh, pencil is back.

You got something intelligent to say this time?

    No? I though so.

You’re just one sad little kid who has some problems.

  8. -Storm states that the old render will not be supported, it will die out “over the years”

No it won’t, as long as i’m still playing it..

  9. - Q: “How come you reduced the alpha to 750 when the Soviets have 750 alpha on tier 8 already?” A: “Suffer, sovietophobe!”

Anyway, the one, who made the question has a good point… So why?

  10. “if I understand it correctly, the manual vertical aim will be implemented the way it is in Battlefield tank battles now (SS: sorry, never played BF3 or BF4) – not now, but by the end of the year most likely. It will be optional.”
    - Lol what a fuking joke, who would want the option? In battlefield you can adjust the drop and still hit consistently because theres no RNG or accuracy involved. In WOT, not so much since the accuracy, dispersion and RNG makes it hard to hit, even with auto compensation for drop. Also why have drop in a arcade tank game anyways, at the distances we are fighting drop would be non existent anyways.

WT bullet drop is also overdone and I dont know if WT has RNG or accuracy the same way as WOT.

  11. “Suffer, sovietophobe!”

I never thought I would see someone from WG say something like that.

EDIT: “Sovietophobe”? In context with the question, shouldn’t that be “Sovietophile”?
