17.4.2014

Just a quick announcement first: the “Hellcat” bug where the game randomly crashes is not limited to Hellcat – that piece of information was WG EU’s mistake. It can happen with any tank, really. The original WG EU post was already altered with an edit, explaining that it applies to other vehicles as well.

- 25 percent RNG was implemented, because according to Storm, “this number optimally simulates real life”
- ammo explosion ripping off the turret of tanks depends on the remaining amount of ammunition in the rack – if there is none, there is nothing to explode
- it’s too early to discuss next year’s April Fools (SS: yes, people ask such stuff)
- Storm states that the situation where one tank of one tier goes into another tank of the same tier (SS: in this case 38T into StuG III B) might appear again with the introduction of new tanks
- no work on specifically 64bit client is conducted
- can a tank “catch” a shell (as in, tank moving faster than the shell catching it from behind)? “If the movement trajectory of the shell intersects with the tank collision model, there will be an armor penetration check”
- Q: “Between the opponents and proponents of the Confrontation mode, who won?” A: “Wargaming”

- Storm admits that the 9.0 patch was “very complicated” – “there are issues but we will fix them”
- Storm confirms that the cheating mod was behind the tier table removal from the queue screen
- new historical battles will be added (and removed) every patch
- the ability to turn on your roof will come for all vehicles at once
- there will be a new map in 9.1, but which one – that won’t be disclosed now (SS: allegedly, it’s Kharkov)
- Storm confirms that open-topped turrets (like for example open-topped arty) are not subjected to being torn off by ammo rack explosions, as the blast simply vents outside
- tank dynamics (SS: the way it moves) is a balance parameter (SS: as in, a tank with the same specific horsepower as another tank can be much more sluggish)
- there will be no “historical battles” company mode
- apparently, if a turret, ripped off from tank A damages tank B by falling on it, it doesn’t count as damage caused by tank A (same goes for damaging your teammate)
- the FPS drops issue apparently isn’t in the count of polygons on new models
- apparently there will be an option to disable HD tank models in the graphic settings (SS: not sure what that means), “when it’s done it’s done”
- Storm confirms the existence of bugs, causing client crashes.
- Storm confirms that there will be HB platoons
- the map reworks (liked by many people) are apparently the result of the map department having a new leader
- the choice for downloading or not downloading HD textures will apparently come with 9.1, same goes for enabling/disabling HD graphics and tank models

  1. - 25 percent RNG was implemented, because according to Storm, “this number optimally simulates real life”

Fixed: – 25 percent RNG was implemented, because according to Storm, “this allows us to cover our tracks”

    • It’s there to hide the fact that RNG does sway match to match in order to bring luck to those that might need it….

    • Correction: 25% is there to allow for you baddies to get a good game despite your piss-poor performance, once in a while.

      • RNG can help or disadvantage both good and bad players equally. It’s high school statistics for fuck’s sake.

        • Grab a 70% account and a 40% account play both for about 500 games you’ll notice a difference pretty shortly.

          • That’s because your sample is too small and besides, that’s now how you do statistics. You Take two 0% accounts, play them for 2000 battles and they should be both 47-53%. If you played more, it would get closer and closer to 50%, because that’s how statistics work.
Besides, I don’t even bet your point, are you arguing that the 70% account would have RNG in it’s favour? Do you even know what RANDOM means? It means everything’s possible, so now if you take 100 0% accounts and play them for 2000 battles, most will be around 50%, but you’ll have a few others around 60% or 40% some more between. It’s called Normal distribution, it’s on wikipedia, read about it and get educated.
It’s also funny how the more eduated the people are, less stupid conspiracy theories there are.

            • you are just pure stupid. random actually means that NO BIG DIFFERENCES ARE POSSIBLE… its rigged

              • proof, that its rigged and we will believe you. and by proof, i mean show us the code that says “these players always get the better RNG”. until then: RNG is fair and totally random.

And if you cant get the code, please show us an experiment where you fired a number of shots with a number of different guns with a number of different accounts big enough to support your thesis. these numbers should exceed the thousands, so the law of large numbers applies. again, until then: RNG is fair and totally random.

          • You Fail Statistics Forever.

Not to mention, how the almighty fuck would anyone actually go about doing what you propose in practice – and why exactly are you talking like you’ve done it?

          • The difference is that people with xvm will shoot the 70% one with premium round more often.

      • +1 I don’t understand how people think that IRL a shell flies EXACTLY where you fire it. It doesn’t. Nor is every shell the same.

        • Except that this is an arcade video game, not a real life tank simulator. RNG is what all the bad players rely upon.

          • And you’re supposed to be a “good player”? Please, don’t tell me you’ve never had a lucky bounce save your 8 HP ass, or you penned 200 armour with that 198mm pen AP? It works FOR everyone and AGAINST everyone, because it’s RANDOM.

          • Except this is a simulation game. It simulates tank battles as realistically as possible. It does not give the player god powers.
Also, I assume you are a bad player as well.

            • this is an arcade game…u prolly never played a tank simulator game in your life! Go try “Battleground Europe” , “Red Orchestra” or “WW2 Battle Tanks: T-34 vs. Tiger” where u play basically in 1st person only…like a real tank crew and perhaps u can have an idea what realistic tank battles really are.

        • At the ranges represented in game, they effectively would fly to the same spot with minimal dispersion. Not only is the accuracy “adjusted” via RNG, so is the amount of dispersion of each individual gun in game, in order to compensate for the sizes of the maps.

        • A Tiger shell hit a 10×10 cm square at 1 km distance. +/-25% has nothing to do with reality. Admittedly I don’t know in what reality the WG staff lives – I have the suspicion it’s a different one than that of most WoT players.

          • And you’ll notice that their accuracy rate dropped quite significantly during ‘combat conditions’. RNG is not meant to simulate high grade ammo being fired on a test range. +-25% is still probably a bit much for a well trained crew but it’s there to throw a more randomness into the game. Occasionally frustrating, occasionally awesome – makes people want to play more despite the bitching.

      • it was proven by our glorious communist scientists (after our small mistake in the crop science experiment) well it was proven that by taking infinite number of capitalist monkeys and letting them play Wot (runs on intel 80486 stolen schematics, as we heard it’s the best). we have crunched the numbers and it was estimated that by introducing 25% of Randomness to each shot we can make our monkeys smile and ask for more bananas.

    • As far as I remember those 25% represents faulty shells, worn-out barrels and such stuff. According to some older Q&A it somehow approximates real life (WWII life) problems with ammunition and guns. For example, a lot of German ammunition was faulty or no working at all as its manufacture was sabotaged already in the production factory (eg. by those forced to work in Germany after their country got occupied).

  2. So far I’ve read:
There will be 2 clients, one for HD, one for regular
There will be 1 client, but you can download the HD models
There will be 1 client, oyu can switch the HD models on/off in the menu.

So I guess the current plan is 1 client?

    • “1 client with only HD.
If you prefer SD then get a timemachine.”
This is what i see as their next answer.

  3. “- there will be no “historical battles” company mode”

Shame, as the teamwork involved made it seem like this was something that was possible (thinking closer to teambattles).

  4. - apparently there will be an option to disable HD tank models in the graphic settings

This will function like the “Disable advanced textures” option in STALKER CLear Sky. Ticking it will use old models.

  5. - Storm confirms that open-topped turrets (like for example open-topped arty) are not subjected to being torn off by ammo rack explosions, as the blast simply vents outside

But can be closed-topped turreted, and half-turreted arty turrets ripped of by ammorack explosions? (BC 155 58, M53/55)

  6. - 25 percent RNG was implemented, because according to Storm, “this number optimally simulates real life”

    Want realism? Join army…

  7. - Q: “Between the opponents and proponents of the Confrontation mode, who won?” A: “Wargaming”

    I lol’d.

    - can a tank “catch” a shell (as in, tank moving faster than the shell catching it from behind)? “If the movement trajectory of the shell intersects with the tank collision model, there will be an armor penetration check”

So… no. BTW which tank COULD catch it? :S

    - the map reworks (liked by many people) are apparently the result of the map department having a new leader

Then order him to CREATE NEW maps and not REDO OLD maps.

    • “So… no. BTW which tank COULD catch it? :S”
Maybe a 1c and a British howitzer shell? If the 1c found one of those map glitches that sends you flying at high speed, and it would have to be really unlucky to get it to happen.

    • I think this refers to the slow British howitzers, which easily face Pz.1c,s and ELC’s… i suppose that from the correct range, such a projectile (AP only of course) could simply dent the tank and roll onto the engine deck (if it hit the back of the turret for example) 3.7 inch howitzer minimum muzzle velocity was 180 m/s… at 80 kph, the Pz1c will do 22.22 m/s which is a total shell speed of 157.78 m/s when it hits the armor from point blank.

If a AP 3.7″ howitzer at 157.78 m/s fails to penetrate the tank, then its possible for the shell to remain on the tank after it hits… other than that, to truly catch the shell, the tank would have to be going 648kph… so unless it loses speed over distance, this is unlikely; but these numbers are from point-blank.

Bear in mind that WG lowered the realistic shell speeds to make leading shells harder.

  8. rumors on NA are that the CTD is if there is a Hellcat in the match and on your side you’ll get CTD no matter what tank you are in. So it could be a Hellcat issue that is bleeding over to any tank in your tier. Could explain why its only t4-7 that have reported it. Haven’t seen a t8 reporting this issue yet.

    • It no longer works (DUH!) But it was this mod that analysed the tier table pressing “battle” at the optimal time for you to be top tier. It didn’t make you top tier 100% of the time, but you did get a bigger chance and therefore an unfair advantage.

  9. - the ability to turn on your roof will come for all vehicles at once

But what about the ones that don’t have one?

    :S

  10. - the FPS drops issue apparently isn’t in the count of polygons on new models

Yeah, this one is obvious. The new tanks using five-six times the texture space of their old versions however… Yeah, I get the rationale behind cramming most of the shared elements onto separate texture sets, but until it’s just one-two new models per match, all it does is add another six 2k x 2k texture files to store per tank…

    • Yes but when all the tanks will be HD, it will be a lot less than if every single texture was separate.

      • Sure, in another year or so. But at the moment the game has to load the soviet shared elements even if there’s just a single t-34-85, which btw only uses it for a saw stowed on its side (which amounts to about 2% of the total texture space, and an insignificant detail on the model itself…).

        • So you just want what is now? So in your opinion no HD tanks ever is better than a gradual switch to all HD? Why did humanity even try? Fuck democracy that took hundreds of years to establish, we’ll just have kings! FUCK KINGS WE’LL LIVE IN TRIBES!

          • Nope, I’m not campaigning against the HD models. I’m also aware of the problems that would appear if the whole HD switch was done differently (namely the humongus update size if it was done at once or increased workload for the assets team if you’d compile the actual used parts from the share textures into a single smaller file).

Doesn’t change the fact I consider the new system for game assets anything but streamlined for the client (as opposed to the artists, for them it’s an ideal one).

            • yes,
              yes,
put more if, else(){} in code, this make code stronger!

the best WoT client will cater for those with 3Way SLI Titan and for those with casio fx86.

  11. how do i turn off the hd models? or have they not bothered to include that option yet?

  12. What a load of bs. Game is hardly playable on an I7 with sufficient ram and an nvidia gts250.. worst patch, maybe ever.

Oh and ammo rack detonation is completely random. They said there was module hp, but a 1300 damage gwe ap does not blow up a 100% e5. Just another aspect in which autoloaders are better. More Shells more chances.

    • The GTS250 was really bad when it was released 5 years ago tho, so I don’t know why you’re surprised that time has passed you bye

    • Your graphic card is shit. I run with i5 and GTX560 on max @35~45 FPS.
Oh and no, turrets do not fly off randomly. They fly off when the ammorack explodes, which happes when the damage that a shell does to the module exceeds the allowed ammount. You just don’t understand game mechanics OR real life, if a shell hits a tank’s ammorack and ignites a shell in it, the tank will blow up even if it’s brand new.

      • Dude. Read first rage later.

As for ths graphic card, it performed harder jobs than WoT. It is a question of optimization, ie bad programming on wgs part.

Secondly I was not talking abour turrets flying off, but ammo rack detonations in the game. And frankly I dont believe in this module hp bullshit. Call this a conspiracy if you wanr to, but most of the time a single shot will not suffice (for t10 heavies). But if you have an autoloader you can fire two shots in short succession damaging the module twice (based on chance, not module health) and ammo rack an opponent.

  13. 25% simulates real life? What kind of retard is this Storm? I am playing a game here! If he wants real life, that moron should go to the army to say it with the words of WG’s master troll Serb!!!!

    • the real answer to evolution has been found! the secret ingredient to create life: is 25% of Randomness. such cleverness, this game programmers are so smart and well educated in life sciences…

  14. is anyone seen a turrent blown off? even in test server i have never seen it and ammo racks are so rare so why make this lovely visual feature so rare? make it happen 25% when tank is destroyed, cause it will simulate life like storm says.

take a pond of water and some electromagnetic wave spectrum and blast is for couple of billion years you will surly stimulate life.

    • Same for me, just when I was about to kill an enemy tank. Returned to the match only to see I have been killed and immediately CTD again.

      FVCKING PROGRAMMING RETARDS @ WG.NET.

  15. E25 Also crash a game, we play x3 e25 and all game crash down and every time we try to come in again crash , we can come in only when game is over

  16. “- ammo explosion ripping off the turret of tanks depends on the remaining amount of ammunition in the rack – if there is none, there is nothing to explode”

I like that they thought of that detail. I wouldn’t have….. +1 WG
