Hello everyone,

once again, Storm is asking, whether players suffer from a very specific issue. This time, it’s freezes (lags) connected with the first shot in battle (the game “lags” a bit when you shoot) and the destruction of tanks in your visibility range (the game “lags” when the tank dies and the explosion/fire gets rendered). This happened before as well, but Storm states that asks because there are reports of this being especially bad in 9.0 – and I can confirm that, it is worse for me.

Storm also asks for DxDiag log and screenies of your settings, but it’s kinda pointless to post them in comments, he doesn’t come around here.

From the discussion:

- there is a myth going around that when you switch to sniper mode, the landscape quality gets redrawn to “maximum quality” in order for you not to shoot into the ground – thus, having lower landscape (terrain) quality than maximum can cause lags. Storm states that this is just urban legend.
- apparently, lags when switching to and from sniper mode (especially often) are caused by re-loading of terrain LOD

  1. Yeah, this happens to me. The loading dead tank models always happened, but it lags about 1/2 second longer now.

  2. I’ve reported this on the feedback thread in the forums during the test server phase, but I get pauses of between 0.5 and 1 second when a tank explosion happens for the first time. After the first battle it mostly goes away. But it means the first battle is awful and I have to basically throw one fight before the game works properly.

    • Yea but it’s for 8.11 not 9.0 and i belive in some cases it may create some other errors. I do not recommend it.

      • I use it in 9.0, no problems at all. I usually get 35 FPS on Standard when in arcade and had a drop to 10 in sniper. Now, I am at a stable 35 FPS overall. Great mod I have to say.

    • No lags while going in sniper mod anymore. Haven`t seen something like that for a long time :) Tank you very much, sir!!!

  3. This issue is sound related, 90% sure. Once your computer has loaded every sound, surprise, it runs perfectly.

  4. I have freezes between very short and 4 seconds when a HD model gets scouted in my render range :/

    Not every time but often enough to be very annoying

  5. Well what i think WG lacks good management of destructors (in C/C++ you have to delete items from memory on your own, if you forgot to clean memory you gonna have a hard time, especially when it comes to 3d game and of course game huge as world of tanks).
    I am at the beginning of my programming studies and sometimes my codes looks like mess and madness, but i despite that i know what i want my code to do i suffer from time to time weird exceptions and error, which dissaphear when i rewrite the code. Well, still a lot of things to learn. Anyway i hope they did good documentation of their code, otherwise they will fail to fix all the problems ;p

  6. Same here. Though i was the only one having those freezes when first shots fired / tanks blow up situation.

    Great, now we have a cause for those microfreezes when changing in/out of sniper mode, how about a fix then?
    Been driving me mad – every time i enter sniper mode fps drops to 500 ms. And of course, this came with the new patch.

  8. Very long freezes after someone dying/being scouted for the first time in battle and explosions + huge fps drop in sniper mod while strangely enough have better fps then before… Now only have more annoying and prolonged freezes…

  9. First shot, first explosion. Even when I spot the first tank on the enemy team i get a 2-3 second freez, when i usually die….. GREAT PATCH.

  10. yep, first time sound freezes are worse than 8.11. Freezes of multiple seconds also more often. Huge fps drops happening constantly. Lag happening all the time. The 9.0 patch foced me back to Standard graphics.

    Conclusion: epic fail!

  11. when i shoot forst, when tanks appear in my sight first time and when somebody dies in my viewrange… all those events makes microfreezing (imagine when i rush in and spot 10 tanks…)

    • maybe because of you just hiding behind some building and never seeing anyone.. that may your solution ;-)
