Offline Map Viewer

Hello everyone,

this is a nice little useful tool I got today from Locastan – thanks mate :) He’s not the author of it, it comes from the RU forums (author: s0me0ne, original thread here)

Basically, it allows you to load the map and fly around it like this:

shot_004

It can be downloaded here:

http://www.ulozto.net/xkSWAE2b/map-observer-92-zip

Installation (a bit complicated):

- copy the content of the archive into the client mod folder “res_mods” (works for both 9.1 and 9.2 test)
- select the map you want to view by editing the mapexp.xml file in the mod folder (in the replace the map file name with the one you want to view, without the .pkg part)

For example, if you edit it now, you’ll see this (without the dots, those are there for the sake of FTR formatting):

<.root>
<.package>28_desert<./package>
<./root>

This is the Sand River map. The list of maps names can be found in your World of Tanks Folder in the “paths.xml” file (just edit it and see the names for yourself) – so for example for Westfield, it would look

<.root>
<.package>23_westfeld<./package>
<./root>

- save the file
- run the client
- on login screen, press CTRL+M and hold it for cca a second
- the map will start loading, once it’s loaded, press CTRL+P to unlock the camera
- now you can fly around (WSAD + mouse) and make screenshots (Printscreen), but the only way to quit this is by shutting it down using Alt+F4

  1. OT: Locastan, is there a list of your mods with versions/dates/changelogs? I have a couple of your ancient mods like the damage panel that is bugged, I’d love to see your recent stuff as well as some updates.

  2. Very cool. This will be useful as hell when new maps are released, or there’s major changes!

  3. Great tool.

No more entering a training room in the test server just to be shot by some idiot that didn’t understand “no killing, just checking the map”

  4. Very useful tool and very easy to use. Just “flew” over the Sand River map to check the changes.

  5. I did all like it is written for my 9.2 CT client and when I hold Ctrl M for 5 seconds, nothing happens.. :(
(Yes, I read 3 times the instructions ans all is done right)

  6. Super useful for making epic montage scenes for videos about… nature. lol.
Also great for looking at the maps, but that’s beside the point :P
