Littlefield Tanks – Sold…

Thanks to Zorro Guevara for this one.

Hello everyone,

if you follow the news in the tank world outside of World of Tanks, you probably know that one of the biggest events of recent years was the sale of the Littlefield Collection. It’s been discussed for long months, that’s where The_Chieftain (US server military specialist) was shooting the short “Hatch” videos at (before they sell it to pieces).

So, a part of the collection was (unfortunately) already sold. Interested what prices did the customers pay?

Sdkfz.7 German WW2 halftrack – 1.207.500,- USD
M4A2 HVSS Sherman (76) – 345.000,- USD
SCUD missile launcher – 345.000,- USD
M5 Stuart – 310.500,- USD
M4A3 Sherman – 299.000,- USD
M50 Super Sherman – 293.250,- USD
M4A3 (105) Sherman – 287.500,- USD
FV214 Conqueror – 287.500,- USD
M3A5 Grant – 276.000,- USD
Landsverk IKV-73 – 212.750,- USD
M16 Quad .50cal – 201.250,- USD
Leopard 1A1A4 – 198.950,- USD

etc.

Three tanks are still being sold:

The Panzer IV Ausf.H current bid is 1.750.000,- USD
Jumbo Sherman current bid is 800.000,- USD
LVT-A4 Modified current bid is 375.000,- USD

The cheapest armored vehicles could be purchased for as little as 10k USD (M75 APC), stuff with big guns (M52 105mm SPG) for as little as 14k USD.

The entire list can be viewed here.

    • It depends on condition, usually. A “museum piece” Conqueror would sell for less than a functional Sherman, for example. Even if they both could move, the exact state of it matters a lot in pricing schemes.

That and the Sherman is a much more recognised and iconic tank, so its price would go up.

  1. As I understand it, a large majority of the collection was bought and being relocated elsewhere to be kept together, and they sold off the rest to cover the transport costs, I saw somewhere the costs of transporting the ‘mini’ collection was in the millions.

    • Actually the total sale brought $10,240,000.00 USD slightly more then the cost for the transport.

The buyers were from ten different countries and those from the United States were from thirty-seven different states.

The Littlefield’s family donated the collection to the Collings Foundation, which plans to use the money to build a military vehicle museum at its headquarters in Stow, Massachusetts.

  2. It’s a shame that they sold there collection. Why sell it in the first place?
Not for the money i think. If it was for the money they had put a reserve on it.

Still can’t believe what they’ve done.

    Poor tanks…..

      • Too bad….

If you sell it, keep atleast the collection together then.
The owner didn’t collect them for them to be sold apart.
Shame on his childern (or who ever the hell sells them)

        • Dude… maintaining a collection WITHOUT PROPER INCOME is impossible. And the children of the collector said that when they will have enough money (via the auction) they will make a museum for the rest of the collection (rest is like 50 or so tanks).

      • Let’s hope so.
Also: scrap metal fate is better then “rot in the garage” fate.

    • The poor thing will be if these tanks will be kept in a hangar, and nobody expect the owner will see them.
I believe, but I’m probably too kind and naif, that tanks should be seen by everybody like a museum.

Also they sold them because they want money to create a new museum in Stow (IIRC) in Massachusetts.
The ‘creator’ Jacques Littlefield died in 2009 btw.

      • Well I can’t speak for all of them, but there’s a new armour museum opening in Australia and I believe some of the collection was purchased by them.

And the good news is that they won’t be locked away – they are even planning their own version of tankfest :) :)

  3. I was thinking of buying something.
Then I remembered I live in a third world shithole, where they get all sore in their special places if I buy $35USD worth of games. Let alone a half a million dollar tank that’d fist the whole country’s armored force.
Sometimes, I wish I lived in the US.

    • If you have enough money, you can emigrate to the USA. Unless you’re on one of their special lists. Look for EB-5 green cards.

  4. they had all those shermans to show and didnt do a hatch on any of them?
