Hello everyone!

Wargaming on RU portal posted an article about the new 9.2 Clanwars medal, the “Rotmistrov Medal”. As Wargaming writes it, it was implemented “in honor of the Hero of the USSR, Chief Marshal of the armored forces, Pavel Alekseevich Rotmistrov”.

The medal is issued in 4 stages.

4th Class – for playing 3 battles on Clanwars map

And a bit of history from Wargaming:

Pavel Alekseevich Rotmistrov was born on 6.7.1901 in the Tver governorate. In 1919, he enlisted in the Red Army. He fought against Kolchak’s troops and in the Soviet-Polish war in 1920-1921, in March 1921 he participated in the quelling of the Kronstadt anti-bolshevik uprising, distinguishing himself in combat and getting wounded. For valor, he was awarded with Order of the Red Banner.

In 1928, he entered the Frunze military academy. After graduating, he served in the Far East, from March 1936 he was the chief of operations for the Special Far East Army, after that he commanded a rifle regiment. During the Soviet-Finnish war in 1939-1940, he commanded the 35th Light Tank Brigade and participated in the assaults against the Mannerheim line.

He fought from the first day in the Great Patriotic War. In 1942, he was appointed to the position of commander of 7th Tank Corps, he fought with it near Elyec and Stalingrad. In February 1943, he became the commander of the 5th Guards Tank Army, which participated in July 1943 in the battle of Kursk Salient and carried out the famous counterstrike near Prokhorovka.
On 21.2.1944, Rotmistrov recieved the rank of Marshal of Armored Forces. By summer, his army as a part of the operation Bagration participated in the liberation of Borisov, Minsk and Vilnius. In August 1944, Rotmistrov became the deputy commander of all armored forces of the Red Army. After the war, he served in Germany, Far East and taught at the Voroshilov’s Military Academy.

Hmmm, funny, no mention of the fact that he was promoted to strategic level for incurring so high losses with the 5th Guards that he was not to be trusted with direct command anymore, yet too well-known to punish and demote? Oh well.

    • Russian logic. Same was with Budiennyj and Worshilov. They were to terrible to command troops in the field, but still have some uses for Stalin. Same method was used before Soviets, during times of Imperial Russia. For terrible commanding you could have promotion in place where you can’t do more damage, and, as a punishment, you’ll be send away from Tsar court for month or two ;)

      • Rusian art of war. Single individuals are unknown.
Just hordes of sheep being carried to the butcher. Poor guys – but great leaders…

        • That’s common with everyone…
At a strategic and tactical level, assets are material things, to be deployed and used effectively.

That must be a terrible feeling, to be high up in the command chain, and command entire battalions and armies to move, knowing full well that engaging them in combat means they will suffer loses. Yet knowing you have to separate yourself from your soldiers to win the war….

The Russians seem to do it better than others. That can be seen as a good and bad thing.
Good for winning wars, bad for the human aspect.

  1. Just wonder, do already played battles count or is it post-introduction ones ?
Already have over 200 CW battles on my name, so i’m curious if I’ll start with 2nd Class or will I have to get cracking at it.
Also – are Landing Tournaments battles counted or is it just the actual Land Battles only ?

    • Old CW battles don´t count for this new Medal. You have to start from scratch. This has been confirmed already by some EU Staff.
And i don´t think landing battles count, otherwise it would be way to easy to “farm” this medal.
