M56 Scorpion in Morocco

Hello everyone,

I don’t usually post just a few pictures like that, but this is pretty interesting. You know we have the M56 Scorpion coming up as an American premium tank destroyer – but other countries used it too. Here’s something rather exotic – it was used by Morocco as well, here are the pictures, courtesy of Saàd, who lives there:

    • it’s not like the armour is woth much anyway, with the increasing penetration and happy gold spam. Most nubs will ding you once, and then move to gold and shot the same spot with penetration… Or will be spamming gold from the start.

      • You say that armor doesnt matter . i’m sure you dont know what you mean .

Same as the idiot who said : 52mm of side armor in conquerer isnt a problem , it will pen anyway .

Well , what about sidescraping ? what about angling ? what about HE shells penning your side ? think about it . even 1mm more of armor can save your life .

          • Hell, you could just throw stones at it with results!
this thing will be extremly nice target for ramming. Why bother shooting it when anything can ramm it to death in one go

            • KV-5s will enjoy killing this tank. Muwahahahahahahahahhaahhahahhahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Well yes, 1mm armour will not be penetrated by a shell that doesn’t get overmatch (HE or HEAT) if the angle is great enough to autobounce. So 1mm armour can for sure save you, if only rarely.

            • Lol what gun in WoT can’t autobounce a 1mm armor scheme? Even the Panzer 1C will overmatch (Caliber = 3x armor thickness iirc).

  1. I fail to see how this can be tier 8 material. There are tier 7′s which have larger guns, and more armour. The only thing I can think of is that it has ninja levels of stealth, otherwise this thing will have HE being flung at it like no ones business.

  2. That engine description, like broken klingon… I tried to translate that but i felt it’s safer to google sources:

    Powerplant: 1 x Continental AOI-402-5 6-cylinder 4-cycle opposed fuel-injected gasoline engine generating 200hp @ 3,000rpm.

    And:
Based on the T101 pilot vehicle, hull construction of the M56 consisted of all-welded and riveted aluminum. Its 90mm M54 anti-tank was closely associated with the main gun armament of the M47 “Patton” Main Battle Tank (MBT). The vehicle allowed for 29 x 90mm projectiles to be carried aboard. Its design was for a standard operating crew of four to include the driver, commander, loader and gunner and power was served from a single Continental A0I-402-5 gasoline-fueled engine of 200 horsepower. This was mated to an Allison CD-150-4 transmission system with two forward gears and a single reverse speed. Suspension was made up of a torsion-tube-over-bar set at the 1st and 4th wheels (four total road wheels to a hull side) while a torsion bar system was set at wheels two and three. Speed was roughly 28 miles per hour on road while range was limited to 140 miles. The vehicle’s operating weight was in the vicinity of 14,000lbs to 16,000lbs. Unlike other armored combat vehicles of the period, the M56 was given a pneumatic tire arrangement which further served to lighten its combat weight.

  3. Ah the good old days where body armour didn’t matter and weighed more than the soldier. I remember it well….

  4. I recall there is a memorial that uses an M56 in my area. A Army/Air force base Fort Dix wants to restore it due to request from a “Foreign Company” (Probably Wargaming) and the town is strongly refusing, due to it being a Historical landmark, in its decrepit heavily rusted state.

  5. The M56 was built to give American airborne divisions an anti-tank capability. The aluminum hull allowed the vehicle to be delivered to the battlefield via parachute. It saw combat in Vietnam where the M56 was used as a bunker-buster. Makes you wonder how many Congressmen owned stock in the company manufacturing the damn thing.

  6. “Weight in combat order: 7.144 Kg”

So you’re saying I could pick it up with two hands? 7.144 kilos isn’t very heavy, probably about the weight of 5 or so bricks.

  7. “7.144 KG”

well then if thats the case, then an T1 Cunningham or even better an lol tractor can ram it successfully :D:D:D

  8. Knowing WG’s balancing techniques, the scorpion will have 0 armor on the turret and 1hp, but three hundred thousand million billion mm armor all around the hull
