Join a Clan!

Not my words. That’s what Wargaming is saying with their latest video.

It’s obvious they want to drive more people into clans for various reasons. One is likely the fact that they consider the playerbase average skill to be a problem. Another would be the clan Strongholds that they invested heavily in. Not a bad strategy overall, but with a game, built on casual players and (what is more important) on player fluctuation, I am not quite sure whether this is the right way to improve the playerbase skill.

And why do they write WoWs everywhere? That game is not even in closed beta yet, heaven knows whether it will even come in 2015.

Edit: Oh yea, and in case it wasn’t clear… the clans get unified for all three projects.

  1. One is likely the fact that they consider the playerbase average skill to be a problem.

If this is one of the reasons I might buy some gold again.

  2. Ive been in a clan 3 times, and 3 times I left said clan….. I’m better off playing alone than in an organised group.

  3. I’ts basic psychology.
If you play in a clan you have to use TS in 90% of cases, you become friends with clan-buddies and you will be more attached to the game…

  4. being in a clan is not so bad. There are a lot of clans around. many of them just take part on global map events to get special tanks etc. Now with stronghold – you have expanded your stronghold enough you can roll full gold with premium account and have positive net income.

Regarding WoWs – to build up the hype. A lot of users could not jump from tanks to planes as that requries completely different skillset and you cannot camp bush near the cap circle. In WoWs all these will be able to, at least, camp near base :)

  5. I have join’d two clans so far, both with the intention of being able to grind for “fame” points and the ilk…
What I find is that finding and joining a “Active” clan is not that easy.. Most want high troll stats, err, I mean WN8 Quality players… Most want TS.. And I have no Tier X’s either.

It is kinda sad really, Unless your in a big established clan who knows the workings of everything then your shit out of luck. And most of the “Guides” that WG puts up is all flash and no substance. Hopefully I can push my current clan towards the global map, but I think a lot of clans out there are made without even knowing there the global map!..

  6. Whelp, I’ve been in clan two times – once when WoT was still in beta

Anyway…left both of em. Clans require from you to do stuff but game-wise they dont give anything in return. Unless you are in a pro clan that is into e-sports and stuff

    • cLans always was giving you oportunity to learn from better players, join them in platoons and teamwork in cw. Now you have additionally bonuses to randoms and tank prizes in events and campaings. Clans do requeire TS and activeness, it is obvious that inactive player is useless to clan. Players have to have some basic tanks too. 6, 8 and 10 tier for events and CW.

  7. I guess players in calns may be more bound into the game which is good for customer retention.

Stronkhold battles have been good but I think they have made a mistake with the attack/defense you need to go past tier 4. The attraction of skirmishes was to play with 7 or 10 tier 6 or 8 tanks which a lot of clans can manage to field. Now if you want to look at attck/defense you suddenly have to field 15xTier 10. That rules out advancing your stronkhold beyond 4 for non CW clans. They should have looked to some intermediate level for Stronkhold levels 5-7.

    • I agree with this.

There’s no scalability in strongholds. If you go beyond SH level 4, you’re suddenly faced with the prospect of attacks by strong clans that can field 15 tier 10 tanks.

IMO, what WG should do is add some scalability to SH levels above 4. This is an idea I saw posted on the official NA WOT forums and I think is a good one. Attack/defenses would be as follows.

When attacking a SH with a level of 5-6, the battles consist of 7 tier 6 tanks. When attacking a SH with a level of 7-8, the battles would consist of 10 tier 8 tanks. And when attacking a SH with a level of 9-10, the battles would consist of 15 tier 10 tanks.

With this idea, smaller clans can dip their toes into the SH attack/defense game without getting shredded by big clans that can field a full roster of 15 tier 10 tanks. And larger clans that wanted to attack a small clan’s SH would have to do so at the tier more in keeping with that clan’s resources.

  8. “they consider the playerbase average skill to be a problem”

Here you have it. Even WG think, most of you suck

  9. “they consider the playerbase average skill to be a problem”

Clans are useful to improve player retention. Their new “Invite Program” is a way to increase player acquisition.

Acquisition, Retention, Monetization are three of the most important keywords for online games nowadays (along with DSU, DAU and MAU). World of Tanks has one of the world’s best monetization, but apparently they noticed a decline in their player base and/or signups that they can’t compensate with brute force advertising anymore.

  10. Unified clans… I hate this idea…
I play wot and I’m in an active clan, but If I want to play wows and 90℅ of my clan don’t want to i would be happy if i could choose an other clan in wows and stay in the clan in wot…
