Straight Outta Supertest: Karelia Reworked

Source: FTA VK community

Hello everyone,

the supertesters got their hands on the reworked Karelia map – this map will be changed as such:

b_lv3zOZq9c

1) Added a stone to compensate for the other side’s stone, that gave the southern team advantage
2) A group of stones here were moved more forward to mirror the formation of stones on the other side of the map, allowing northern side better cover
3) this region was fully reworked, allowing the northern group easier access to the “ledge” area. Now both teams have the same easy access to the camping ledge

  1. They should have waited with that until they changed the viewrange to a circle.
This may change the whole gameplay on this map.

  2. When do they fix Live Oaks? Southen side gets the city almost every time. And can shoot the team from the north before they get to cover, but not vice versa.

    • Before they helped out the southern spawn, the north spawn was the one to kill down all enemies from the south before they could even reach the town.
Now it’s evenly balanced. You can fuck up both teams a bit now while advancing to the town, but not everyone, since there’s much more cover.
Whenever I’m on Live Oaks, I always keep an eye for enemies far too way ahead or without cover. Doesn’t matter if north or south. And I lost more matches after starting south then starting north.

    • Southern side gets the city, but in return they almost abandon the railway, and north team almost managed to reach the middle bridge with clear view to south area, which mean advancing through the railway is risky most time.
In my observation, most of time North Team managed to wreak havoc on southern base by blitzing railway. Well, even if the success rate are varies (sometimes south team managed to blitz town and returned to base or just cap, sometimes they don’t), defending railway on southern spawn is suck.

      • The only way you can win north is by anal defense. If you rush the rails and clear them out of couple of lights, you still can’t cap cause of the open field, so all you can do is come back, which usually is too late. That is why staying in anal defense works.

  4. Interesting as I prefer to be in the North side in this map, I find the corner at area 3 with the bush a great location for a sniper/heavy tank. If I drive a fast tank, coming from the North side is normally fine.
They have the data but I wonder if other maps are more unbalance and require more attention that this one. Imo, Mines is one of those that the spawn location is critical, I do much better if I start at the South flag.

  5. Actually north side so far had the same chance of getting the hill as south side had a minor slope to climb when crossing the river which slows down advance a little. I always arrived at the same tume to the hill’s bottom with the same class of enemy tanks.

    • +1, Totally agree. Almost impossible to win south in higher tiers due to imbalanced lighthouse area (useable only for north team, autowin when poorly defended). Somehow hill is usually won by north team as well and does not provide as much advantage to south. So south team must stay passive and tanks cannot relocate safely, whereas north team wins map control nearly all the time.
Another disbalance is ruinberg where north team has chance to cover long street in town by fire and use risky corner to put mediums in lower part of village into cross-fire (as long as you are not hit by e100 to the shiny metal ass).
Never noticed disbalances in Karelia, map is just boring.

      • “Somehow hill is usually won by north”
No, It’s ALWAYS won by north unless 5 or 6 tanks (that spawn south) have fuel or whatever…

  7. That reworked area shape looks like dick with balls, doesn’t it?

Well that means north team is f…ked!

  8. I think should remove this map (Karelia).
    - Tactical maps are poor, most of my battles in this map is to the east, take the hill. Very bored when using a similar strategy.I want to push west but can not, enemy on hill easily focus
    - This map does not balance, want to win you have captured the hill, Team many Meds , LTs will win. they have the initiative
