Reddit “Ask Me Anything” summary

Hello everyone,

as promised, here’s the summary from WG’s latest “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit with Ectar, Quasar and Obirian. As expected, there’s not much new, but some things are interesting. Regarding the questions I “hinted” at to post, someone (Ectar I think) posted that they can’t answer them for now.

- multicore is being worked on (no ETA)
- there are “plans” for the Micromaus (38H)
- more French tanks are “very unlikely” to appear in 2014
- no plans to return Type 59 to the store
- no ETA for roaming, it’s still being discussed
- tier 10 discounts will return to EU in February
- no plans for skill MM for random battles
- patch 9.0 will come “sooner than you would expect” (SS: probably the most interesting answer, looks like historical battles will come in 9.0 too by the way)
- there are no plans for big (very expensive) bundles like there are on US server
- T-44-85? “Give us a bit more time, please”
- no plans to introduce “trial” tanks (SS: as in, free period for “trying it out”)
- historical battles will come “very soon”
- just like on SEA server now, you will be able to vote on next tier 10 discount on EU
- night maps will not appear at least in next two updates
- no plans to introduce flamethrower tanks
- MAC version of WoT will not come in near future, Linux version might

      • I’m with roaming. Really handy for travelling players like me. is annoying if you have to regrind every single damn thing if you HAVE to move to another region (in my case, from NA to SEA, then from SEA to EU, and in a few more weeks i have to go back to my highly underdeveloped SEA tanks)

  5. I liked Ectar’s answer regarding FTR:
    “The work FTR does for our community is commendable and it shows us how passionate some players are about our game.”
    I wonder if that’s a stock phrase or not.

    • *shrugs* If he talked like this a year ago, he might have avoided a whole lot of “Ecturd” and “WG EU sux” posts. It was a diplomatic answer and I appreciate it much more than some childish rants á la Yuri Pasholok.

        • Dude, that’s been phrased so many times since like a patch before, we won’t be seeing any French line in 2014 at all.

          There are three possible lines to introduce, I’ll write the down for your convinience, because I’ve made a research a very long time ago:

          -French M4 Heavy Line, high tiers are just variations of current heavy line but without Auto-loaders and oscillating turrets, except for AMX 65t, it was an original design.

          -French AMX-30 line, no auto-loaders, transition from light to med will be at lower tier than in current line, there will be AMX-30 prototype on tier 9 most likely.

          -French second TD line, I highly doubt it will come even within 2 years… there are few TD’s that could be put in the line, especially the Cannon d’Assault Lorraine and a weird E-25 wanna-be as well as one turreted TD, the Chasseur de Char but…. there might be not enough TD’s to make a whole line. Might end up like the second soviet TD line.

          - FCM’s , the huge heavy propaganda tanks from 30′s but there are like 3 only and 2 are just different in armament while the other is uparmored and upgunned but stat-wise it’s like KV-1 with BDR’s gun and twice as big (and a barn like ARL44′s stock turret). Nooo they aren’t usable in the line, best they end up as premiums.

          • You forgot the Char 2C and 2C bis when you were talking about the FCM line (though those were designed in 1918, and entered service a year later in small numbers). If you thought the TOG was subject to jokes, you have no idea how many will be made about the 2C (which, in terms of dimensions, is the largest tank ever built, the Maus being a close second iirc but unquestionably being the heaviest).

      • Uhm, why in the fucks name would you sell Type 59 in the first place anyway? I got my Tetrarch back via “golden ticket” as you call it because i was noob when i had it first time and didn’t appreciated the good gun/fast speed tanks(silly me) so i sold it, but who the fuck would sell T8 premium tank. Even if it sucked so bad(which btw Type 59 was quite the opposite) it still made you shit load of credits without any significant effort.

    • This is something I am curious about. If they make it a voting process, and all tanks are open for vote, this quite simply means that some Tier 10s will never (or never again) see a discount. I’m hoping the NA server will at least get through all of them one time before they implement voting.

      • I kinda agree with you if this was implemented we would never see some tank lines so I suggest that we could only vote for tank line that haven’t picked yet until all of them are covered then we can start all over again

        • Agree with that. I’m lining up the object 263, (hasn’t been on special yet) but doubt many would vote for it.

    So HD client bits highpolycount models and higher resolution texture will be coming before that? Oh lord.

    I can play BF4 with high/ultra settings at 80fps, while WoT runs sometimes at a miserable 35-40fps on some maps. HD client will be a slideshow at this rate…

    My rig if someone is interested that is: i5 3570, 8GB DDR3-1600, GTX 660

    • You’re not the only one, though I get steady 60 fps (capped to 60, not VSync) on mid-high settings

      My rig:
      i5-3570k @ 4.5 GHz
      R9 290X
      16GB 1600MHz RAM

    • yeah i have almost the same settings and this game dont run verry smooth compared to other games :-( and they put every patch more high settings in without improving there engine so yeah i will see wat the next update will bring :P

    I always try out new tanks on test server!

    • That’s why it’s called “test” server. Eventhough it’s usually full of bad players and everyone literally everyone shoots gold ammo all the time. So if you want to test tank’s armor it’s not the best way of testing it, but if you want to check out how the tank suits you then you have test server and there is no need for “trial” period. Who the fuck even asks questions like this.

    knowing what the word “plans” means for wg, I’m a bit worried for my 38H…..

    • I wanted to ask the same question. Wtf “plans” means. It can mean they will completely overbuff it or even completely remove it from the game as far as the word plans goes. This is just hypothetical, because none of that will not happen most likely, but why telling people there are fucking plans and then just kept it as a secret. And i wouldn’t be really worried, because micro is pretty shitty tank atm(it used to be OP) now it’s quite UP with heavier matchmaking, slugish speed and mediocre gun while all other tanks can rape your ass rather easily if they have even a bit of clue what they are doing.

    That has to be the most important reason why they’re looking at Linux.

        • It’s an OS based on Linux that is designed to optimize how one’s computer utilizes available resources, allowing for better performance while running games without having to fork over ridiculous amounts of money to either upgrade an existing gaming PC or to buy a new one, or at least that’s how I understand it based on some of the reading I’ve done. I’m a bit skeptical of whether it works as well as promised or not, but when I finally do upgrade to a better PC I might just give it a shot.

    • Yea, me too. I remember running Return to Castle Wolfenstein with higher fps on Linux than on Windows back in 2001, one could hope…

    Who on Earth want flamethrower tanks in WoT? They would be completely useless.

    • Not at all, you could always “cook” the tank but that’s just cruel and… takes time.

      Hmm… yeah, you’re right its useless, you’d be just a rolling bomb and before you cook someone… you’d be dead.

      • It would not be as big of a rolling bomb as you might think.

        The Pz III flame tank had the best armor of any Pz III built.

        Plus Listy already shot the “Big bomb theory” to pieces.

    • I want flamerthrower tanks in WOT. The napalm like substance was effective, although range is obviously an issue.

      Why would you not want a different weapon system instead of the same old? Especially as it a (minor) indirect weapon. Perfect for unclogging some bottlenecks :)

    • I totally agree skill should be taken into account this is why the game play has gone downhill not to mention there all using tds and auto loaders because they cant get kills in anything which doesn’t have a big gun or a auto loader.
      Was even i time i wanted to make a thread that they should have a IQ test before letting people download it.

      The WG_tgps { Taipei game show } Press accounts are the worst i got shot by one yesterday twice and ive lost 4 games because they use top tier heavy tanks and lemming or kill the team themselves don’t even get compensated by WG for it.
