Hello everyone,
you didn’t like the field of view change in 8.11? Here’s a way how to fix it.
- download this mod
- unpack it
- put the file “avatar_input_handler.xml” you just unpaced to the “World_of_Tanks\res_mods\0.8.11\gui\” folder (if the gui folder doesn’t exist, just create it)
- run the game
Now, the mod above was made for 16:9 screen ratio, so I don’t know how well will it work for other resolutions and ratios. You can however modify it to fit your demands. Here’s how:
- you have to open the avatar_input_handler.xml (in the folder you just put it in)
- if you want more field of view, you find the line
- be careful that you have to change the vertical FOV as well, otherwise it will look weird
- find the < verticalFov> line
- calculate your desired vertical FOV using this tool
- change the vertical FOV number for the one you just calculated
- run the game
I guess it will take some experimenting. Honorable mention goes to Locastan, who responded immediately to my request to create such a mod. Thanks mate.
YEEEESSS THIS WAS THE ONE THING PUTTING ME OFF 8.11 SEVERELY. Guess I’m using this mod patch by patch until WG pull their head out of their asses and give us a FOV adjusting slider. THANK YOU!
Nice :) Legal mod a presume?
Of course
Why not?
Btw, how zoom mod works now? Doesn’t it override this new FOV? Or maybe it just stopped working in 8.11?
For example J1mbo’s reticles use the same file (“avatar_input_handler.xml”) for zoom-out and it contains a lot of possible settings, so you need to compare file you already use (f.e. PSPad function) with this one to see the differences.
Differences between this FOV “mod” and J1mbo are only on lines 3 (horizontalFov) and 5 (verticalFov), which means you can just change values on those 2 lines in J1mbos to “fix” your FOV without loosing zoom-out.
Original locastans FOV mod is set for horizontal FOV 110 degrees and vertical FOV 78 degrees for 1920×1080. You can calculate settings for other resolutions with provided tool.
I’m using 1280×1024 resolution so when i open the tool it’s like this http://pokit.org/get/img/b57c9a4f83ed7520cc4dd06cc82400a8.jpg By default Desired horizontal FOV is set to 90 so when it calculates vertical FOV it’s 78. Now what i don’t get is should i change Desired horizontal FOV from 90 to some other number(110 maybe) or should i leave it like that? Never used tool like this so i’m quite noob.
Those, who have different Aspect Ratio, might want to use
http://www.rjdown.co.uk/projects/bfbc2/fovcalculator.php
to find out optimal settings for them.
upd: ok, next time I’ll read post to the end :P
Played a few games today and havent really noticed much difference.
If you use standard aspect (5:4) screen there is no difference between old and new.
For anyone who has a 1680×1050 resolution, I tested the 120 VOF setting and got really light headed/awkward feelings in my eyes.
Best setting, which look almost exactly like 8.10, I found was:
VOF of 100 and vertical VOF of 74.
Hope this helps some of you.
According to the supplied calculator for 1680×1050 it should be 65.
that’s if you want a horizontal FOV of 90. for 16×10 screens, it goes 90/65, 100/74, 110/84.
Actually didn’t find anything wrong after the patch, so either I was pretty close to the current one or I just can’t pay attention to it. Nice tool anyway~
Im the only one that has no crew sound after 8.11?
The mod is good, but tha values are totally fucked up, for example the zoom in and zoom out in sniper, arcade and strategic view.
It does include my own settings for the maximum zoom out. If you don’t like it, just change it. :P
Thanks for linking the mod. It enormously increases my playing experience. No more vertigo and eye-aching <3
This is truly one of WG’s biggest fails ever. In a world where EVERY viewing device is going 16:9 WG in 2014 decides to optimize for 4:3? Are you kidding me? And they now need a hot fix or a MOD to fix this which didn’t need fixing in the first place? Are they TRYING to go backwards?
Thanks so much for this mod.
