Thanks to all of you who sent me this link :)
During excavation works near the train station in Euskirchen, remnants of a German WW2 vehicle were found by a building company.
It is in fact not a real tank, but a demolition vehicle – the Borgward IV – a remotely operated minitank, that rolled to an obstacle and blew it up.
So, when will WG introduce this tank?
The ideal tank for bots!
Sorry, but it doesn’t look loke a Borgward IV (The website also writes just “presumably”), because of the “Schachtellaufwerk” – the borgward had a “normal” suspension. looks more like a Kettenkrad without fork or a remote controlled explosive carrier called “Springer”, but those remote controled tanks were so rare ( about 50 pieces build) that i don’t think it’s such a tank and it’s just written to make the article more interesting…
@all- I just live around the corner of Euskirchen.By now it was confirmed that the “tank” is a Sd.Kfz. 10.
A reader of a german newspaper recognised it because of its wheels positions.
As the main part(upper part) is missing-it might aswell be a SdKfz 250/251 which had the same wheel order.
No Sd.Kfz.250, as it missed the front outer roadwheel compared to Sd.Kfz.10.
And how on Earth do you come to Sd.Kfz.251? It used a completely different chassis.
could be a Sd.Kfz.10
I guess it’s a “Springer” demolition tank, or the “Kettenrad” half-track motorcycle.
Perfect tank for the yolorushers.
the Springer had six roadwheels, the vehicle on the pictures has five
There is a discussion, what vehicle it is. Most people think it is a sd kfz 250
Actually it is a SD kfz 251. At least the rear part. The Medias got it wrong.
Read above why it is not Sd.Kfz.25, neither 250.. -_-
How come you people are not able to even google-image a couple of photos of the vehicles and just compare what you see???
Excavated vehicle: 5 roadwheels
SdKfz 251: 6 roadwheels -> wrong (http://www.bredow-web.de/Panzer_und_Kanonen/Schutzenpanzerwagen_Sd_Kfz_251/Schutzenpanzerwagen_Sd_Kfz_251-9-b.jpg)
SdKfz 250: 4 roadwheels -> wrong (http://www.kfzderwehrmacht.de/SdKfz_250_5_Sudfront.jpg)
SdKfz 10: 5 roadwheels -> bingo (http://data3.primeportal.net/transports/alan_ranger/demag-d7_sd.kfz.10/images/demag-d7_sd.kfz.10_012_of_138.jpg)
Yes, MadestCat is right. It is a SdKfz.10! The vehicle has 5 roadwheels so it cant be a Sdkfz.250 or 251. The rear part with the coupling device of the SdKfz.250 and 251 also looks quite different.
I have made a comparison picture:

Television camera huh? The Soviets should have used television cameras in their teletanks, they should have continued the development of teletanks.
…I’m not quite sure you entirely appreciate the limitations of period technology.
Well if TV Guidance was possible for the Hs-293D Glide-Bomb, then why not for tanks? ;)
@Watchman, I don’t think you appreciate the technology they had at the time.
The Borgward IV was definitely remote controlled and was often deployed at target via a Pzkpfw III Ausf L.
Are they sure? The road wheels look nothing like any known picture of a Borgward IV.
The outer wheels look more like a Panzer II G’s. That Sfdkfz10 looks spot on … so they pulled up half a half-track eh?
Suiciding tanks in wot yes please :)
