Hello everyone,

Storm recently made two KWG posts, one to wish the players happy New Year and the other to comment on the recently released KTTS video. Here is the info from the discussion:

- Q: “The graphics is somehow meh” A (Veider): “You don’t like the new IS-4 model? I started jerking off to it even when it didn’t have the texture yet and was still a set of polygons”
- dynamical dirt (SS: tank gets dirty when going through mud) will be implemented
- old computers will be able to play on the same graphics like they do now
- WG made a special survey on player computer configurations, that’s how they know about so many players using crap computers, they collected data on 2,5 mil configurations
- reworked Maus model will get extrernal (empty) fuel tanks apparently
- historical battles will be played on currently existing random battle maps
- independent suspension will not influence balance more than it does now, it is already being taken into account when balancing tanks at this moment
- Veider states that support rollers for now have less polygons even in HD graphics on the IS-4 model, because it’s very difficult to see them in the battle anyway
- there will be more HD screenies after New Year


- IS-4 will recieve side armor like on the KTTS picture, it will be implemented into the collision model
- various equipment, boxes, mudguards etc. will be torn off when hit
- tanks will not be moved by shell impacts – a 20 kg shell can’t move a 40 ton tank. Storm adds that 80 percent of shell’s kinetic energy is transformed into heat upon impact and that according to the memories of real life tankers, they didn’t even notice some shell hits that didn’t penetrate upon impact
- the moving antenna and chain on the tank is a part of the Havoc engine
- it will be possible to tip your tank over on the roof
- when flying in the air, tank track will not fall off in the new system
- trees will most likely keep on falling through the tanks

At this point, Storm states that players should keep in mind that the model of the IS-4 is just a test model, that still has some issues and bugs, currently, WG is already working on real “production” HD models, that will have these issues fixed.

- independent suspension will be impelemented individually
- first vehicles to be reworked will be “legendary” tanks such as Pz.IV, Tiger, T-34, Maus etc
- roaming WILL come, testing has shown that everything will work with it
- (this is not from Storm, but from SEA forums): it’s completely possible that troublemakers and trolls will have roaming disabled permanently, Tanitha stated it’s “one click” and it’s done
- Storm states that large houses (like in Ensk) will not be completely demolishable, but it will be possible to make holes in walls and shoot through them
- the bricks that got stuck on the turret in the video will disappear (fall off) in time (as a part of optimization) – only players with physics enabled will be able to see these effects
- multi-turret mechanism has been postponed for very distant future (very few tanks would benefit from it)
- Storm states that the detail level of HD WoT models will be roughly the same as the one of War Thunder models
- Firefly “will come”, Sturmtiger will come too, but it’s not yet sure in what form
- damage-model (SS: collision model apparently) of HD tanks will not be completely reworked, more like refined and updated
- Veider states that garage battles are crap and War Thunder experience confirms that
- HD models will not be released all at once, but in batches
- only like half of vehicles will have researchable hulls and apparently, VK4502B (rear turret) will not be one of them

  3. “Veider states that garage battles are crap and War Thunder experience confirms that” We’ll see… I like the WT planes with the “garage battles” more than the historical battle 1 plane only… But it is true that we would see more arties on maps where arties can be played easily, which would be bad (for me :))

    • The best thing about War Tuhnder garage battles is that you have to focus on the objective, not on slaying enemies out, exsactly as in real life.
      And a death is much less painfull.

      • Well, first of all, Garage battles occur only in Arcade. Both more sim-like (still not sim) modes are single-vehicle engagements.

        And no, people spend as much time chasing each other. Especially since bomb splash has been nerfed and it’s hard as fuck to land a bomb directly on a tank.

  5. so, if the computer can’t handle all these HD graphics, will all these improvements make any difference if I use the current settings? because if it doesn’t, then all these patches will mostly be meaningless, with the exception on flying turrets and distributable terrain.

    • I think it will be implemented into the settings, like it’s now. for instance, under “texture quality” you will have:
      -low (shit tanks)
      -medium (meh)
      -high (like it is now)
      -maximum (the new HD models)
      at least that’s how I’d do it, but it has been confirmed the old models and textures will remain as a part of the “old graphics”, I mean why delete all the models if they can still be used on old computers?

      • I guess I didn’t answer your question. The current “highest” settings will probably be the new HD. Pure speculation, of course. So no, nothing will change if you use low settings, apart from the suspension and the new physics.

        • I wonder if the engine gets optimzed and altered. and not just maximum = HD.
          WoT doesn’t scale very well with good PCs now. just adding hd textures would suck.
          i hope for optimization. MASSIVE OPTIMIZATION!!
          i mean you have to agree that bigworld is shit. maps look like straight from CSS. DX9 shit

    Does this mean the 4502B won’t have the A hull as an alternate option (which would bloody well make sense) or they won’t have it as a researchable hull for the 4502A (which would bloody well not make sense)? Bit of a vague statement that one.

    • Isn’t the 4502b completely fictional? Atleast the armor properties, as in they never were that thick, cant remember in detail.

      • yeah, the armor thickness is unhistorically buffed ingame (IRL they were planning to have the armor along the numbers that Ausf. A version of VK 42.02 has)

      • The A and B should be the same hull with the engine and turret swapped round.

        In game the A is a lightweight med/heavy hybrid and the B is a heavy heavy.

      • Historical tank armor: 80/80/80, same armament as King Tiger.
        Jentz states some up-armoring was planned so maybe one could speculate even up to 180mm front, still the tank is nowhere tier IX material.

        Maus with nerfed HP and mobility to the historical 13 km/h would fit tier IX, with Maus II going to tier X.

    • @Kena: by the rules of logic this could also mean that VK 45.02 (P) Ausf. B would cease to exist as a separate tank (then there would be no need for it to have optional hulls) ;)

      • This is what I was presuming that comment made, but there was that niggling voice in the back of my head suggesting that wg was thinking of doing away with that dear old tank altogether, ie no hull option for the 4502A!

  7. Actually, 37mm gun on M3 Lee is not have much effective. B1 75mm is more effective, but if it can use this, will it have normal MM or still +/-1 like now? because if it meet tier 6….meh. Maybe only Churchill I will happy with muti turret
    BTW, can i expect weather effect in HD patch? Sorry if some one ask about this before, or there are some developers said it never be implemented. I’d like too see tank battle in snow, rain with some water/snow effect on screen. Or some snow storm/ sand storm/ mist with reduced view range. May be they should implement it in a new battle mode (“Real weather” for example), so if some one don’t like it, they can disable it like now with assault and encounter mode.

    • From memory the AP rounds of the B1 bis’ casemate gun had similar penetration to its 47mm SA35. The extra alpha would be offset by the fact it had no traverse side to side. Frankly I don’t see any use to it over the SA35, or the markedly superior SA37 that is the top gun in the game right now.

    • They describe it in the video. Essentially, they last longer than some peoples attention span, and you end up losing players when their team is losing. It does have potential for high tier matches, so I assume they may be looking at this as a separate game mode or maybe a change to Clan Wars.

      • in real it was a TD to be honest. but in WoT the arty als also more like TD than arty in real. (a satelite aiming TD)
        so both would match.

        • In Hungary, the only deployed Sturmtiger fired at enemies 8 km from it… Yes it’s really a TD…
          Btw, the Sturmtiger in Kubinka is the one, which I’m talking about.

        • It was used like the soviet SU-152 and ISU-152, but ST only mainly in indirect fire with the rockets.

  10. So does this mean DX11 grade graphics, full multicore support and a native 64-bit client?

    • probably not. Since they admitted 40% of their playerbase plays on computers that dont even meet the minimal reqs set by them, and that they want to support them too.

      • Funnily DX11 allows for better performance too, but only on cards that support it. Dunno how about DX10. Anyway World of Warcraft did wait with that too for a very long time, probably because it means double work, as you have to keep an DX9 client for all those Windows XP gamers.

      • That wouldn’t be a problem since users would have the choice to use either DX9 or 11. Most games such as Warframe greatly benefit from DX11 and I’ve noticed around 25% improvement in rendering speed compared to DX9. That would definitely be a plus for WoT players with capable systems. DX11 is already 3 years old and every single modern game uses it.

  13. I wonder if we will be able to get the HD tank models on the old render… Old render gives me lots more FPS than the new one but I allways set the tank details on highest cause i like looking at my tank, so im just wondering…

AS A PLAYER ON THE ASIA SERVER , WG SHOULD FIX THE MM , I RECEIVED UNFAIR MM , ABOUT 6 TIMES IN A ROW , WITH A PLAYER WITH XVM LIKE ME , THE ENEMY TEAM ALWAYS THE UNICUM AND THE BEST , AND I GOT THE NUBIEST RUBBISH TANKERS . THIS DISSAPOINTED ME , U LIKE FIGHTING WITH 8 TIER 10, and 3 TIER 10 ?? . TRUST ME I REGRET

    • Seeing your pic… not sure if trolling or being serious. On the off chance that you are being serious:-
      A) Wrong topic to cry about unfair MM.
      B) Go easy on Caps, maybe?
      C) It’s SEA server. I play on it as well and I know 2 things about it.

      Firstly, it’s the most rubbish server filled with idiots to the core. The only upside is that most of those idiots are not dicks/jerks but genuine baddies hence you don’t burn your blood screaming at each other. And secondly it’s the holidays. The idiot gang is out in full force. Go take a break for 48 hours or so and MM will be fixed automatically.

  15. Here is a question to ask SerB or WG:

    Will going with the Havok Engine offload a decent amount of work from the primary core?

    In other words, in testing are they seen a decent FPS increase when turning Havok on?

    • We don’t currently have Havok physics in the game…why would we see a performance *increase* from them adding it?

      I would expect a slight performance decrease when it’s added and enabled, but it shouldn’t be too bad if the work is offloaded to an otherwise unused core.

      • Because the current collision models and physics calculations are being handled but the main core. If these are offloaded to the Havok engine, there might be a FPS increase.

    Wonder if this is going to be insta-kill. I’d imagine having the weight of the tank trying to shove the turret and turret ring down through the crappy top armor is harmful to the tank’s well-being.

    Turretless TDs should be ok, I guess, to a point. As ok as beached whales with guns and upside-down crews can be anyway.

    Entire artillery-playing portion of the community just became moist in their special places with anticipation.

    As far as the M3′s 37mm gun goes: no, it’s not very good, but consider there’s no real reason that you couldn’t load APCR (or HEAT if applicable) for secondary guns. M3′s high enough tier that that 37mm would be rather quick-firing, it’d be great in combination with the main gun for killing weaker/thinly-armored opponents VERY quickly. Japanese tanks in particular would piss themselves whenever they saw an M3 ambling towards their end of the map.
