14.4.2014

Check out Listy’s article about the 1974 Cyprus war!

Also, I wanted to post this before, always forgot – check out a (belated) interesting take on the WGL Warsaw finals

- apparently, new clan functions will appear in 9.1
- “yellow” damaged optics do not reduce vehicle vierange, only red do (by 50 percent)
- “yellow” damaged tracks also do not reduce tank mobility
- transmission and engine are currently the same in World of Tanks, but for game purposes, there will be a separation implemented (SS: as in, hitting transmission will be different from hitting the engine)
- the “10 caliber rule” (SS: a shell flies the distance of 10 its calibers upon entering the tank, after that it disappears, eg. a 100mm shell flies for 1000mm) counts from the point of penetrating the armor group, the penetration of which causes damage to the tank
- T95 is doing fine statistically

- changes and rebalances to the game mechanics will come this year
- devs are completely satisfied with tier 8 regular tanks’ creditmaking ability
- new French medium branch in 2014? “No comment” (SS: nope)
- the credit and XP requirements to level up arty are “just” (SS: as in, fine, won’t be changed)
- apparently, a situation, where in team battles, when you have a 50 percent or so winrate and get thrown to battles with elite clan teams is fine: “For TB balance we use team battle statistics, not an abstract winrate percentage or some third-party efficiency rating”
- the limits from historical battles on gold ammo are not planned to be introduced to random battles (SS: no gold ammo hardcap)
- new coats of arms of cities/regions are possible
- developers don’t make changes of the game based on forum topics just because it has a lot of “positive reputation”
- 2014 premium medium tanks will be for “various nations” (SS: as far as I know – Britain, Japan, Germany, USSR)
- these prems will come straight in HD
- the exact number of new HD tanks per patch is not yet sure
- for now, new historical battles will be only from WW2
- there are no plans for further tank splits á la Panzer IV and StuG
- roaming will not come anytime soon
- T-54 vs Centurion “Middle East” historical battle has a problem that there are no Arab and Israeli crews
- apparently, in 9.0 Object 430 was made bigger, its camo will not change
- ingame Object 430 engine horsepower (580 hp) is historically correct, wikipedia is wrong
- according to SerB (from Kubinka), first elements of Havok (destructable buildings, realistic destruction of walls) should come in 9.2
- the fortification mode (“bases”) will be client-side, not browser-based

  1. WOO full HD premiums! Now even more people will buy them, I know that at least for me a good premium tank is 120% more appealing if it’s in HD :D

    • - these prems will come straight in HD

How about if I don’t want HD models? No offense, but I don’t feel like downloading 80GB of data. I’m happy with the current tank models. I hope someone will make a lower def model as a mod. I do not want to wait forever for the damn thing to load the battle as it loads each 100MB+ model.

Why can’t a model have 1-2MB is beyond me, typical for WG, they can’t dual core, they can’t models, they can’t game. Such stupid, much MB, very NO.

      • i hope they do include sd alternatives, instead of counting on chasing off everyone without a new computer

        • I don’t have a bad PC, but even so, this is ridiculous, the damn Sherman has over 100MB… I mean, really? What the fuck does it do for 100MB? How much quality can you have? It’s like those snobs/hipsters that listen to the extinct FLAC audio format, because “it’s sooo much better”. As if their ears can somehow hear better than what a mp3 at 320kbps 44khz can output. How much details can you want? Can you imagine what happens if you have 10 different models of tanks in the same battle? You need to load over 1GB of data… Really? You’ll join the battle after 2-3 minutes. Such imbeciles, I gotta double face palm.

          • loool..that is one sided view
before you talk about FLAC quality vs mp3 one…i have a question to you
what audio system you use? – have you ever used a real sound card and a REAL AUDIO SYSTEM cos yes..there is a BIG DIFFERENCE.
and i am not talking about 300W PMPO..that is shit..i am talking about fidelity
as one of my cousins told me once…”the bass is not there to hear it. the bass is there to feel it”….
….even though you’ll never be able to reproduce the sound and feeling from a LIVE EVENT but you can go waaay closer

            the same with imagery
it is IRRELEVANT HOW MANY MEGAPIXELS your camera has..is the SENSOR AND THE OPTICS that make the difference
with video is the same…no matter how powerfull your computer is…if you play in low resolution then you’l never be able to see the difference…you’ll just play the game like 90% out there and complain…buy a 4k monitor or at least 2k and see the difference in any aspect of whatever you put in it……if you play a resolution of 840×480 on a hd monitor……then stop talking

for those that want quality that comes with a price. i am not sure why people complain at all….at first itteration of 9.0 test server i actually got better FPS..i will wait for the final version and then i will enjoy HD tanks…you can go play karl if you want

            alex

      • HD models will be optional, in case you haven’t heard it the thousand times it’s been said.
I’ts fukken funny how in the beginning, people whined:
OMG DIS GAEM SO UGLY WG U SUX KILL URSELF
        and now you’re all like
I DON’T WANT MOAR GIGS FUCK HD MODELS WG U SUX KILL URSELF
it just goes to show that you’re never satisfied, and if you can’t muster together a stable opinion you shouldn’t share it.
Also, how do you expect a model to be 1.2 MB in size??? your average photo on a computer is bigger than that! I mean you could have around a megabyte sized model, but it would look like the Karl model from the 8-bit mode. and then you’d whine about how shit the models are again….
on the topic of dual cores and all this, enough has been said. educate yourself and stop whining uselessly.

        • Not for once did I ask for HD models, so chill with the CAPSLOCKOMGLOOKATMEIMSOMUCHMOREINTERESTINGNOW. I am happy with the way they look now. I realize this is a game, not fucking NAT GEO in HD.

          • sorry mate I wasn’t referring to you in particular :)
I have seen whine about the lame textures and now about HD models being “too HD”, and it kinda pissed me off.
I do share your opinion that current textures are okay, but they could use some improvement: the front track curve on my Ram II is a goddamn hexagon! I guess a slight model improvement and independent suspension would suffice, but you have to understand they’d have to update models constantly to keep up with the trends (such as titanfall), so they will just update everything to this insane HD so it will be good for the next 10 years :D

      • Stop playing the game and fuck off to tetris or minecraft then. Standard HDD space are 750GB, its not WGs fault you have shitty internet, go get a job and buy better internet or a new harddrive.

        • there is a problem with your statement

it is correct but you must mention that “standard SSD capacity is around 128 GB”

          • For $500 6 years ago you can buy a computer that can run this game at 13 fps and have 2x that harddrive space.

Try not using a 10 year old hard drive and you won’t run out of space. Any SSD made in the past 3 or 4 years unless you are buying some $300 computer that can’t even load this game will have more than 128 GB.

            • 1st: a good SSD at 120GB is about 150$…so what are we talking about with 300$ computer? not to mention that 3-4 years ago SSD where much more expensive

2nd: if i use a normal hard disk for anything else than storage then why bother buying a ssd at all?

3rd. capacity is available for SSD’s but at high price…for the moment i am waiting for PCI-E SSD to lower the prices and then move to a 500GB or 1TB SSD (at this moment a revodrive 3 of 580G is over 1k $ so no interest in spending money on it) :D…till then yes there is a problem with games that are getting bigger

              alex

      • There is no confirmation that there will be 80GB. Considering you know nothing about game development. WG is one of the best game developers in the world. They refine their games more than most.
This is the 8th generation of gaming, if you thought that games would be less than 20GB a lot of the time you’re wrong.

  2. “- changes and rebalances to the game mechanics will come this year”

Is it that vehicle rebalance that was announced by Storm a few weeks ago?

    • yes, at least I think so. All the fancy new stuff will be optional, but believe me Havok won’t kill your bad computer, it’s simple enough. Unless you’ll have thirty batchats jumping through houses at once. then it will kill your computer :P

    • No, it will not be optional. It is required to run the game.
And Havok will make every computer run the game better than they already do.

      • They’ve said a few times you can switch it off. Realistically nobody has a single thread CPU so it will make zero difference as Havok runs on a separate thread to the main client so w’ev’s…

EDIT: all havok does is animate info sent from the server, that’s why you can’t pile the bricks up and use them as cover cos they aren’t objects as far the server is concerned. It’s cosmetic client side stuff. Main physics/game play Stuff will still be destroyed and hit boxes the same if you use it or not it will just look freaking awesome with Havok.

        • They said you can switch off some of the options within Havok, but you cannot switch off Havok itself as that would break your client.

          • OK, must have missed that! Makes sense because why run two physics engines… The cosmetic stuff is the taxing part anyway so hopefully my post is still valid!

  3. - T-54 vs Centurion “Middle East” historical battle has a problem that there are no Arab and Israeli crews

They’re just afraid the Centurion will kick the ass of their mighty stronk T-54.
Which, might I add, historically it did.

    • I don’t see why they would be worried about that. They’re well enough matched in game and there are a number of major things which contributed to the Centurions real life success which wouldn’t apply in game.

Also it would be very half assed if they did it without Arab/Israeli crew and insignia.

    • I agree. It’s about the whole “patriotism” business model they love so much.

It’s not like you can see your crew members while playing anyway. Crew faces and names are just a gimmick to spend gold on.

If they need to immerse the players, the most they’d need to do is have Arab, Israeli, Indian, and Pakistani voice packs apply during those battles, and perhaps put in a different base paint job and national markings.

      • True but you do realize that most islamic/middle east nations do not recognize Israel? (exception being Egypt and (cant rmb))

Lotsa butthurt to the middleast WoT players incoming

  4. “- transmission and engine are currently the same in World of Tanks, but for game purposes, there will be a separation implemented (SS: as in, hitting transmission will be different from hitting the engine)”

Pretty important change. Should mean that you’ll actually have to hit the engine to set a tank on fire. I wonder if they’ll spread the current damaged engine effect between the two otherwise so that if you’re transmission is damaged you only lose a quarter of your horse power and lose another quarter if your engine is damaged.

  5. not sure why theyre so hung up on the nationalities of the crews, this isnt a book, documentary or a film, more of a… series of amateur re-enactments

  6. Any information on the British premium medium? I don’t recall reading anything about it on FTR.

  7. - the limits from historical battles on gold ammo are not planned to be introduced to random battles (SS: no gold ammo hardcap)
    ___________________
    Why?

      • or maybe because you are dumb piece of shit….i don’t have anything against gold ammo per se, i just don’t like those who are spamming it all the time even when they don’t need….i noticed lately that i’m switching to gold ammo more and more out of habit, so this change would affect me a lot….i am not whining, i’m just stating the obvious…..that way you would still have gold ammo ingame, but you would remove the spam effect….but you just can’t scroll over my comment without being smart ass and leaving some meaningless comment that implies how fucking retarded you are

  8. SS, can you do a .gif comparison of the 8.11 and 9.0 Object 430? I’d be interested to see exactly how big this change is.

  9. - there are no plans for further tank splits á la Panzer IV and StuG

    what about OP-1S?

    • The KV-1S is not overpowered at all. The gun has on-par penetration to the others of that tier. Slowest reload rate for a non-derp gun. And the tank the gun does not even have KV-1 armor.

  10. - “yellow” damaged tracks also do not reduce tank mobility

My Leo PTA declares BS on this. I always got a noticable speed cut whenever one of my tracks got damaged, and it would go away when I used a repair kit.

    • You are wrong. The speed cut is actually a different mechanic. What this mechanic is I do not even know, so far I have assumed it is the tracks get muddy.

    • sometimes i think a yellow track made a small difference, but i could be imagining it

  11. - transmission and engine are currently the same in World of Tanks, but for game purposes, there will be a separation implemented

    Major German buff? IMPOSSIBRU!
Seriously, transmission in front was there to help protect crew, and you really cant lit tank on fire from hitting it

    • Bullshit. It was in the end opposite from the engine for automotive engineering reasons whose details I’m not familiar with but which apparently have something to do with mechanical efficiency. Which is why cars use that layout an awful lot too.

If you’re actually concerned with incresing crew protection you put the whole freaking engine block in front of them, Merkava style.

      • What reasons? For two separate mechanism, you need long rotating shaft, which needs to be held by ball-bearing, thus you increasing energy loss and maintenance.
95% of cars have engine together with transmission in front, what are talking about?
Transmission is in front to protect crew and make steering easier.
Even SerB mentioned that additional protection.

That Merkava layout just do not ft in era, thats all

        • MODERN cars usually have the engine and transmission together; this is a comparatively recent trend. To wit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Front-engine,_rear-wheel_drive_layout

“This was the traditional automobile layout for most of the 20th century. — The layout has the advantage of minimizing mechanical complexity, as it allowed the transmission to be placed in-line with the engine output shaft, spreading weight under the vehicle. In comparison, a vehicle with the engine over the driven wheels eliminates the need for the drive shaft (replacing this with the transaxle of lighter combined weight), but has the disadvantage of concentrating all the weight in one location. — In an era when gasoline was cheap and cars were heavy, the mechanical advantages of the FR drivetrain layout made up for any disadvantage in weight terms. It remained almost universal among car designs until the 1970s.”

The additional protective effect was merely a fortuitous byproduct, but only any good for hits in the lower glacis – hardly the most common strike zone for incoming fire in actual combat conditions. There’s a reason tank designs moved away from this configuration into distinctly more compact “RR” ones with thick, well-sloped main glacis and heavy frontal turret protection you know.

Also pox on your “not fitting this era”, AMX-13 and its big bro Batchaman want a word with you. Hell, some of the prewar rustbuckets have frontal engines (if not necessarily transmissions) too.

          • Transmissions have ALWAYS been connected to the engine in cars. You are thinking of the differential placement. RWD has the differential in the back. FWD has the axles from the front wheels going straight to the transmission, mostly resulting in torque steering.

Edit: I just created this account to show you your incorrectness.

  12. Im wondering if the new British premium will be the FV4202 in its historical configuration, and the Tier X will be the Vickers MBT… i had heard something about it.

Do you think current 4202 owners will get the Premium for free if this is the case?
