16.4.2014

Closed the comments on the “feedback” post to be actually able to follow them – you can continue under this post here. As I wrote before, I am known for getting angry really quick, so after I cool down (and defragment my drive), I’ll just fiddle with the settings (got some nice tips), clean up the PC and all the usual stuff. Hopefully I will make the game playable with some decent FPS. I am not quitting FTR either, don’t worry about that.

- the game will not stop working on Dx9 anytime soon
- the Schurzen on new Panzer IV Ausf.G are part of the armor model, they work
- Storm confirms: 12 tanks will be buffed in 9.1, 8 tanks will be nerfed
- the sound of the tank destroyed in 9.0 – Storm doesn’t know whether it’s “realistic” – the feedback is that half of the people think it’s fine, other half think it’s like a “pop” and not an explosion. The sound itself was recorded based on a 152mm shell explosion
- there will be only one client, but it will be possible to select via the launcher, whether you want to download HD models or not, at least that’s how the work in progress looks like, it’s possible that it might change still
- updated (HD) tanks on standard render appear without shaders and look “flat”, because the old tanks had the shadows drawn directly into the textures, while they are calculated in real time now, but that goes only for improved render, on the old one, it looked ugly. Developers will make some feature to work around this.
- the algorithm for automatic graphic selection is “complicated”, details cannot be disclosed

- apparently the fact that the M4 105mm and 76mm shell reload time was nerfed only for top turret might be a bug
- “jumping” icons on minimap (SS: as in, they do not move smoothly, but sometimes jump) are done so intentionally (SS: to save bandwidth)
- apparently, the map “Swamp” has fucked up lighting now (too bright) (SS: Widepark too)
- Storm will discuss the idea whether the icons of the crewmen in hangar should have darker background, so they are easier to read
- in total 75 percent of all players have assault and encounter modes enabled
- apparently the 105mm Sherman mantlet-turret part is not historical, Storm states that unfortunately, turret cannot be changed with the gun
- there is also apparently a bug, where after you reset your computer (or during new computer bootup), the performance (FPS, sound lags) of WoT is for first few battles extremely low. Developers are working on a fix, but no ETA is currently known.
- there will be no hotfixes after 9.0 regarding FPS, there will also be no rollback on the HD models or new render, developers will work on it further though so it looks better, there will apparently be a hotfix dealing with some lighting issues (SS: not sure what that is)
- there will be an option to play historical battles with platoons
- work on lighting system will continue
- there will be new grass render system
- true multicore support for SLI and GPU will come this year
- when it comes to US tanks rework to HD, Patton and Pershing do have priority
- roaming will not come very soon, because a lot of things have still to be tested
- the solution to deal with tank hatch “weakspots” by making them into spaced armor was not accepted (SS: this was proposed by a player, never seriously considered)
- apparently, the cases where a huge 150mm shell just goes through light tank suspension without damaging the tank are historical
- regarding this list of potential vehicles to buff – Storm: “Many do appear on the list by the way”
- vehicles turning on their roof and Havok will appear most likely in 9.2
- developers have not yet tested the tanks turning on their roof
- Storm confirms: the depression numbers listed in Panzer IV 9.0 changes apply only when the gun is aiming at the side (Schurzen)
- Panzer IV/V and Panzer IV Hydro won’t be buffed
- apparently there will be no new graphic settings in 9.1, but the developers will work on optimization
- accuracy of tanks will be reduced (SS: that’s a big one, unless it’s Storm’s brainfart, like that thing with arty nerf)
- M6A2E1 will not be buffed
- T-54 will not be buffed or nerfed in 9.1 apparently
- there are many reports about graphic bugs with Nvidia M series graphic cards (GT650M for example), developers will investigate
- while lowtier tanks have earning bonus in historical battles, lowtier premium tanks in historical battles won’t get special bonus, they will earn as much as normally (the increase was apparently planned, but they decided not to do it)

  1. “- there is also apparently a bug, where after you reset your computer (or during new computer bootup), the performance (FPS, sound lags) of WoT is for first few battles extremely low. Developers are working on a fix, but no ETA is currently known.”

Perhaps that’s the root of your 9.0 woes?

      • I had FPS issues with CT also, went to old render and FPS went from ~20 on medium low to ~60 on as maxed as the old render supports.

Wouldn’t use it for posting beauty shots but it worked fine IMO for playing. Not admiring the eye candy in game, trying to not get ganked.

        • I used to have 50-60fps pre-patch with High-Max settings but after patch it dropped to twitching between 20-45FPS (unplayable because of twitching in aim and movement).

          My solution:

Put Terrain, Object LOD and Textires to High/Maximum, lower Shadows to Min, Lightning to Medium and put Post-prosessing to Low.

Result, avarage 60FPS and no twitching.

Lower settings cause some computer to have stupid low FPS and twitching. Terrain and model textures are better to be higher settings. For me Shadows and Extra effects causes most of the FPS drop but I can live without them looking pretty.

          i7-3370S 3.10GHz
          16Gt RAM
          GTX650 1GB
          60Mb/15Mb connection @ 40-50ms ping

          • It seems that I am one of the people with office PCs in this game. :))
            E8200 2.00GHz
            6 Gb RAM
            HD6870
            10Mb connection

Indeed, I have to lower most of the setting to run it at a good FPS but hey, I still can play it even if it looks bad. That is the trade I am offered with for the lack of money for an upgrade. :))

            • If a rig with gaming grade dual core CPU, 6 gigs ram and 6870 gpu is an office PC, I’ll take 5 of those please for my office lol

EDIT: For those of you who have FPS issues after the patch, just lower the Shadows, Object LOD and Post processing settings. Depending on your rig, I have mine at like mid to low, some stuff even off. It still looks nice but I care about smooth gameplay and 35-45 avg. FPS rather than the game looking “fancy-schmancy” but playing at 15 FPS with “strokes” of 1-2 FPS >_>

  2. - true multicore support for SLI and GPU will come this year

Good. Now if it actually would give more fps, we all would be so happy.
Currently it apparently uses 2 cores, core1 and core3, and it gives me whopping additional 2-10 fps. YAY.
Kinda funny that my fps fluxuates between 45 to 60 even though I have pretty much lowered all my settings to minimum, apart from texture quality (medium), terrain quality (low), draw distance (max), extra effects (medium), Object lod (max) and 3d render (100%).

The test server has better optimisation.

    • hmm.. sli and gpu are multicore grafikcards.. u are talking about cpu-multicore im afraid..

      • Dude, a graphics card has hundreds/thousands of cores.. so yes multicore would be for CPU.. but SLI is still graphic cards related..
So I dont know what the guys on the forum are rly talking about..

        • i was citing the terms gpu and sli.. both refers to grafikcards.
so i dont think they mean cpu-multicores.
but i hope it is a typo and my other three cpu-cores dont have to fiddle on their toes any longer

          • No, it might also apply to GPU multithreading. WoT is made singlethreaded everywhere, CPU and GPU must do things one by one instead of parallel computing. The fact that GPU is able to use its multithreaded construction is only because graphic driver can do so. But if the game engine would be able to use different modules for different things, this game could be working 20-40% faster than now.

          • oki let us all agree:
we hope they do multi CPU support….
but they said multi GPU support. (as in: two cpu on on card or sli)

            smartassmode on
as i said in my first post
            smartassmode off

  3. From what I read in the original post it sounded like SS just wanted to play something else and at the time WoT not working was a good reason. Plus i recall he mentioned ES:Online somewhere before.

The whole FPS drop chaos was to be expected…
You cannot upgrade graphics, upscale polycounts and texture sizes and expect the product to run better. That’s not how graphics work i’m afraid. And from what I see there are a bunch of FPS drops all around, significant or otherwise.

    • I have no FPS drops. And I don’t own a monster computer either, it’s high-level mid-range, far from a real gaming comouter but it can still run everything on max (except grass. Fuck WoT grass, it’s shit).

      • I do have a very good computer, there’s no game other I’ve tried so far that would drop below 40 FPS for me, yet at the start of matches in WoT 9.0 I have steady 30 FPS instead of usual 50 I had before the patch. By comparison: War Thunder runs 70+ FPS, in peaks goes nicely over 100.

  4. - there is also apparently a bug, where after you reset your computer (or during new computer bootup), the performance (FPS, sound lags) of WoT is for first few battles extremely low. Developers are working on a fix, but no ETA is currently known.

I’d love to know how that can possibly happen…and how it would get better as more RAM is taken up by programs…that’s the first “reverse memory leak” I’ve ever heard of.

I assume the “accuracy will be reduced” will not mean that the shot spread will change, but that the “aim circles” will get wider, which isn’t a big deal.

Did any of the M4 “ninja nerfs” also happen to the Jumbo (such as the 105 reload time)?

    • “I’d love to know how that can possibly happen” – Shitty Wargaming programmers. That’s how.

  5. - accuracy of tanks will be reduced (SS: that’s a big one, unless it’s Storm’s brainfart, like that thing with arty nerf)

Maybe they finally realised that previous “accuracy buff” (shell dispersion) for everybody has fucked up the macro of the game (too easy for derp/not a lot of point in favour of genuine sniper).

M4, PzIV, KV-1S, KV-2 Storm will maybe feast on your tears, at last…

  6. The sound itself was recorded based on a 152mm shell explosion

yes but tanks is the one exploding in game not shells!

  7. if you have old computer like me, put textures to high, 3d render to 100%, terrain to high, draw distance to max and everything else off.

    works better than before :)

    • This works for me too. I still have 10 FPS less than before but at least they are constant. No more FPS drops. Game is playable again.

      Thnx for the tip.

  8. SS, you mentioned about Windstorm and Winter Himmelsdorf loading slow as hell.
This has been going on since Windstorm was introduced to me too, do you have any idea why it is so?
Ruinberg on Fire loads normally here, it’s just Windstorm that causes problems for me.

    • I’ve just “tried” to play few matches, and my reaction was just like Silentstalker’s from earlier today – 10-15fps during play…completely unplayable… and loading of maps put me 30-90sec from start of the game, so I was maybe already spotted as I was in base during those 90sec…

I’ve tried that experiment with engine_config.xml (“enableBalanceCPU” parameter true or false), and I think that disabling it gave me few fps.. but still unplayable :(

Verdict – I will probably make an pause with WoT until some fix appears… or until I manage to buy new PC….. my current PC configuration cannot compete with WoT… (AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (2.6GHz), 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD5700 1GB) :(

In the meantime, I’ll keep reading this blog – one of best things WoT got so far… ;) (thanx to SS for keeping this site up – cheers mate!)

        • I think that root of my problems is AMD brand – WoT is definitely not optimized for anything that has something in common with AMD (CPU nor VGA – ATI is under AMD brand now!)… 2GB of RAM also is key problem maybe for endless loading as I presume future Wot updates will have only more and more objects/polygons so more and more RAM would be needed…?

          • I don’t think so, because i have an AMD Radeon HD7950 paired with an Intel Core i5-3570K and 8GB RAM and i have 50-60 fps on max., sometimes even more if I switch off VSync.
But AMD CPUs are not optimal for this game because they have a quite small performance per core compared to Intel CPUs.

Edit: 2GB isn’t too less RAM. My RAM was broken once and i had to send it to the vendor. In this time i had only 2Gb and 64-bit Windows running (not a good combination) but it was still working without problems…
It was at the beginning of 2013, maybe WOT 8.2 or so

            • …small performance per core? Last time I checked, AMD generally designed processors with fewer cores but higher base clockspeed… and it hasn’t really changed. This is why I built an AMD rig; more GHZ/Core. When a game says “recommended minimum 2.6Ghz dual core”, having eight 2.4Ghz cores will not compensate. I’m completely dumbfounded by the lean toward Intel hardware in gaming rigs these days. Just looking at the current newegg listing for desktop processors, a 4.1Ghz AMD quad core for $140 is listed next to a 3.2Ghz Intel quad core for $200. Wanna know where your rig bottlenecks? It’s not your RAM, cheeky intel fanboy.

The same goes for Radeon cards; on paper, looks unimpressive, but they run quite smoothly and with significantly fewer driver issues. Granted, OpenGL isn’t as well supported by the software industry as it should (especially a company like WG), but everything works as advertised, and in my experience, with less hassle than NVidia ever gave me. it seems like the big issues people ever have that need to be patched are ones with NVidia cards (I.E. like the one in this new patch)

              • You’ve made a common mistake. When comparing AMD to Intel processors, you can’t judge solely on clock frequency. For a given clock speed, the instructions per second will be different (in Intel’s favour), and actually, it takes different processors a different number of operations/calculations to perform the same function. (i.e, one processor can multiply two numbers in 3 clock cycles, while another might take 5).

This is because the architecture is different, and with certain exceptions, the instruction sets are different as well. You can only compare two processors by clock speed if they’re the same make and model, so to speak.

Read this if you’re interested in more details:
                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megahertz_myth

Might want to get your facts right before you start calling people cheeky and fanboys ;-)

          • I also noticed that this game runs better on Intel CPUs, but RAM shouldn’t be a problem because WoT doesn’t keep much data in memory, it basically loads it of HDD/SSD and server on the fly and that’s why it requires faster and more efficient CPU core(s) instead of many slower cores. That also explains why i5s and i7s get better performance then AMD FXs with 6 or 8 cores…

edit: ofc, there isn’t real multicore support yet…

My next build will definitely be Intel+Geforce and SSD is a must.

            • I can reccomend that with all my heart. I have an SSD, an intel i5 4 cores @ 3.3Ghz and an Nvidia GTX560 and the game runs @ 50~60 FPS with everything on max except sniper effects, water and grass (water is on medium, rest is off).

              • I made a mistake when I bought HD7790 instead of GTX 650Ti… I wanted to save a few bucks but now my head hurts because of that. I had problems with crappy drivers, malfunctioning Catalyst and clock and fans controls…. I’m done with AMD no matter how much cheaper their hardware is.

      • Guys – Athlon 64 X2 5000+? Seriously? That CPU is like 10 years old, and most probably won’t run WOT normally on any settings. AMD AM platforms are known for their good backwards compatibilty, so you could easily throw some little money on upgrading just your CPU, maybe doing some little overclock and the results would bet there for you!

        • The problem with my rig is that I’m stuck with DDR2 RAM… So to upgrade it I would have to change CPU, MB and RAM. So I decided to be patient until I save enough money for a brand new rig. Yes, I could always throw in a Phenom x4 but that also is an old CPU.

  9. To fix FPS>

Go to your desktop, press windwos key + R.

A window will appear. write there “%appdata%\wargaming.net”

    Delete all the content there.

Also if you installed already mods, as i did, remove them before you reopen the game and install them again.

Again, I dont know for sure if it will work, but for me it worked 100%. but I really hope it will work for you guys too.

  10. ‘I am known for getting angry really quick’

Makes me wonder whether SS might have qualified for Hall of Shame at some point. Maybe EU players could pool together replays featuring SS and make a ‘For the Rage’ video? ;-)

  11. “- there are many reports about graphic bugs with Nvidia M series graphic cards (GT650M for example), developers will investigate”

I have a GT 610M Nvidia Video Card and the game works good at 60fps and 40-50 ping …. the settings on game are video graphics standard with few adjustments

  12. ‘- apparently the 105mm Sherman mantlet-turret part is not historical, Storm states that unfortunately, turret cannot be changed with the gun’

wtf does this mean? Clearly mantlets can be replaced when the gun is changed, it occurs on many tanks.

    • It means the mantlet changed drastically. The mantlet itself stays the same when you change the gun on it, the part that changes counts as the gun (is a part of the gun model). The sherman’s derp had a completely different mantlet altogether, one they couldn’t model with just the gun system.

      • I can only imagine they mean the empty area behind the mantlet, because the change of spaced armour, which is typically considered the mantlet, appears unlimited in shape or thicknesses.

      • Do you mean they’d need to change the turret model too? Because if you look at the stock 75 vs the 105 mantlet change on the stock M4 turret, it’s pretty noticeable in change.

  13. For some reason Pz3 got mantlet nerf with 50L60 gun, no more that 20mm spaced armor part.

Actually I think they somehow fucked up Pz3 mantlets Pz3 has very weird mantlet with 20mm flak gun.

  14. “- updated (HD) tanks on standard render appear without shaders and look “flat”, because the old tanks had the shadows drawn directly into the textures, while they are calculated in real time now, but that goes only for improved render, on the old one, it looked ugly. Developers will make some feature to work around this.”

Thank god, now tanks look like crap on standart render without those pre-made shadows. Not all of them though, some look even darker then before.

  15. After reading all this – it will be fun tomorrow when I login to WoT :D
For once test server worked better than live one…
    How the fuck?
    Vodga stronk!

  16. Hi SS, Please let us know the specs of your PC, that way we could benchmark and compare our PC’s to yours so we could prepare ourselves before patching up tomorrow for NA servers.

The bug on new bootup or when you restart the computer is really stupid, I mean when you’re having system slowing up over the course of long hours of whatever you doing on your computer, initially you will reboot your computer to refresh your system, and with that users may really feels like something is wrong.. really wrong about it.

  17. I usually had just 25-30fps before 9.0 on an i3 with HD3000 graphics… is there any point in checking if the game is playable for me anymore?

  18. Oh by the way i discovered something nice. WG did it again when you change your guns back and forth it changes your prem ammo from credits to gold. GJ you greedy bastards.

  19. - true multicore support for SLI and GPU will come this year

So, 2014 WoT will be updated to DX11? DX9c and DX10 can’t do multicore/multithreaded rendering.

  20. We have FPS issues because the game got CPU usage issues on 9.0, they need to fix, they problem was not present on Test1, i’ve personally get more smooth gaming on 9.0 test 1, than 9.0 or 8.11.

Just test it with some program to see CPU usage and you will see there’s no one core at 100%, it’s just a bug, that’s all.

  21. Just loaded it and fuck me the GPU is running at 100% when in the FUCKING GARAGE!!!! GPU temp has gone from 45C to 68C IN THE FUCKING GARAGE!!!!

    • second , this may be the reason of my absence in future , i think it was 8.5 or 8.6 garage that burned all shaders in my old geforce , after that i could only throw her in garbage can.

won`t let 9.0 crap garage burn my 1 yo ATI 7770

    • Yea, I got the same – fans run like crazy when in garage. o_O

As far as I remember – it wasn’t that bad even on a test server. No clue what they fucked up between test and release.

  22. I hope they do nerf the accuracy. Since they reduced the spread a few patches ago the innacurate big guns are just too damn accurate. There is no longer any point playing low alpha but accurate guns when you can faceroll your keyboard in a KV-1S with 122 and hit something half the map away time after time.

  23. If the shadows are now calculated real time perhaps it would be better to lower their quality. I have 2GB ATI 7850, all settings on max. and 35-50 FPS.

  24. - apparently, the cases where a huge 150mm shell just goes through light tank suspension without damaging the tank are historical
    ________________
Oh boy how i love that “historical” word. Basically everything WG decides is historical. Just like those statements that Tigers haven’t fought in some of the historical battles(ardennes or something) eventhough players provided immediately sources that proves them wrong. In soviet Belarusia WG decides what’s historical and what’s not.

  25. I have had random crashes. One map took 1 min to load normally only 5 secs I has a SSD. but other than that its been fine.

  26. wg why… just WHY utrying to keep this shity ass old graphic engine and big world ? even if u will make it look like crisis engine it wont be runing on pc that actualy runing CRISIS ENGINE 3 . its CHEAPER TO BUY NEW ENGINE NOT PAING TO YOUR GRAPHIC CREW TO DO SOMETING THAT IS INPOSIBLE i dont get it u are rushians u know that 80% of your ru players have shity ass old pc and now they wil not able to run wot wtf? u shoud focus on make more fps with graphic we arleady have. and that serb idea about decrase tanks acuracy … guys ARE U EVEN PLAY YOUR OWN GAME SOMETIMES?

      • Snow Drop doesn’t offer any features that CryEngine 3 wouldn’t have since it’s release. Only problem is that everything in Snow Drop looks like… it’d be melting. There’s no sharp solid objects, everything suffers from blur, sub-pair texturing and weird “rounding”. Quite typical for Ubisoft – they love overusing blur and lens flare almost as much as Crytek likes to overuse depth of field – only depth of field isn’t blurring an entire screen.

  27. Explosion sound quality probably depends a lot on the quality of the players’ sound equipment. Bad speakers/headphones -> “pop”, good speakers/headphones “BOOOM!”.

Tank accuracy nerf? To hell with that!

  28. “Accuracy of tanks will be reduced.”

We get it, WG, you hate long-range combat and any tank that specializes in it.

    • If this is what I think it is, this is actually a relative buff for accurate tanks (absolute nerf for bad accuracy tanks), i.e. WG trying to make snipers relatively more effective. -_-; Less KV-1S sniping bullshit, etc.

  29. I posted about the accuracy nerf for tanks on the NA forum. Not a lot of happy players except for some scout types.

  30. Patch day tomorrow, expected a shitty day for a day or two, this could be a good excuse not play WoT for 2 days and could be a good reason to enjoy Holy Week.

  31. Well lets hope the long delayed buff of the Superpershing is on the cards (1 of those under performing tanks). Someone posted on the forums the statics of that tank post the armor strip. Even WG agrees that tank is the most underperforming tier 8 prem atm.

WT line will be killed probably.

Days if invisible TDs will be over hopefully.

  32. i got no probs with loading time and fps since my laptop is preety high-end. it’s more about the game itself, see.

EVERYTHING IS SO BLURRY MY EYES HURT MOARRAAAAAGE MYEYESAREBLEEDING

    and it’s on max

    • BTW SS do you know when botdetect 9.0 will come out? kinda hard to figure out since there seem to be no “main hub website” (place where you can definetly find the mod. (eg: jimbo’s crosshair mod page in EU forums)

  33. Bye bye WoT, for now.
Went to HB with Panther – was rocking.
    BAM – crash to desktop.
FFS, need to go back quickly.
    Crashed on map load….
    No mods – clean WoT…

But I actually got FPS increase huehuehue (imagine FPS when I WoTTweakit).

  34. “I am known for getting angry really quick” is this why you lashed out at EFE for being full of retards? I do still think you need to be careful with your personal emotions getting in the way of an unbiased review of situations.

Lots of repeat information. The nerf to accuracy somehow seems unlikely. When they changed how the RNG of shots was calculated they made a very concious and deliberate descision to nerf the accuracy of arties but not those of regular tanks. It seems kind of strange to fall back on such a descision so late. Perhaps they want to nerf the accuracy of certain tanks?

  35. On your FPS drop SS: At least you guys can see now how i used to play :D

    - updated (HD) tanks on standard render appear without shaders and look “flat”, because the old tanks had the shadows drawn directly into the textures, while they are calculated in real time now, but that goes only for improved render, on the old one, it looked ugly. Developers will make some feature to work around this.

I know a feature! Make a separate game for newer render! Call it World of Tanks 2!

    - there is also apparently a bug, where after you reset your computer (or during new computer bootup), the performance (FPS, sound lags) of WoT is for first few battles extremely low. Developers are working on a fix, but no ETA is currently known.

Sooooo this bug appears only when your virtual memory is O.K. … “in soviet russia” jokes?

    - apparently there will be no new graphic settings in 9.1, but the developers will work on optimization

    Like they did before?

  36. SS you should post your PC specs maybe we can help you! donate to get some new parts.

Some maggots get donations for making some silly twitch shit, that helps no one with nothing other than show gameplay and weird crap.

But you are REALLY helping the community by keeping us informed at all times and we miss FTR when it’s down. So we should help you!

  37. in total 75 percent of all players have assault and encounter modes enabled

..75% have never clicked to settings button
