Bugged Hangar in WoT

Hello everyone,

ever wondered how the hangar looks with bigger zoom, or – in this case – from the outside? Check this out.

It’s a bug, that happens occasionally to all players. It is not the fault of mods – I know that for a fact simply because it happened to me too not so long ago and I do not use any mods. Interesting to see the stuff untextured from the other side and all that (it’s done intentionally to increase the performance of the hangar).

  1. Got the same last night :-)

At the first place it’s disturbing, but it’s fun ^^

  2. “Interesting to see the stuff untextured from the other side and all that (it’s done intentionally to increase the performance of the hangar).”

not true if something is not visible at the moment pc should dont render textures on it – this is base of pc graphics optimalisation. So even if textures was there that would be no major impact on hangar optimalisation.

      • It is, sometimes you find you camera inside another tank and you can see from inside that tank, that means that the “inside the tank” face of the geometry is not textured and is transparent. It’s just lazy art department, simple as that.
Same with the fact that water is rendered throughout the whole map (in Northwest for example, in some places you can clip the wall and see the whole level from near the map, and behold, water is there below the whole map).
WoT engine is littered with crap like this, if anyone can remember playing Karl (the least complex of all the tanks in wot, with the simplest map) what was your FPS, as mine did not go over 90 ever.

This is called ‘back face culling’ its done by the graphics card if it is not explicitly turned off, and has nothing to do with texturing.

Many game engines does this, because of simplicity. If it is done at the end of each frame the impact is almost zero.

          • “This is called ‘back face culling’ its done by the graphics card if it is not explicitly turned off, and has nothing to do with texturing.” – not only. It’s a standard practice in 3D modelling for games. You remove all of the faces that won’t be visible to the player. It slightly increases performance and reduces memory footprint.
It doesn’t have anything to deal wight GPU being quirky.

      • The problem is that this is a technology from a 1994/2000 at the latest.

WOT does certain things right in programming, graphics optimization is not even remotely one of them.

    • You mean occlusion culling, I think this has been brought up that WOT doesn’t, it’s provable in game, Look up at the sky and look at your FPS, then look at a complex scene, tanks, trees etc then note your fps. Then drive close to a building wall, looking at a complex scene… You’ll notice the FPS which should be almost the same as the sky suddenly is the same as the complex scene…

        • It’s an engine from the age before advanced optimization techniques were incorporated in a commercial engines. These were the days when each company got it’s own engine and never shared the “secrets” with the competition.

That’s why one of the most common questions about WoT is if devs will ever change an engine to the new one. Simply but: Big World is a garbage beyond hope.
I know WG probably thinks it doesn’t have a budget for that – as it’d require them to roll roughly a year doing nothing else than re-writing the game for a new engine – but in a long term IMHO it’d be cheaper, more efficient and future-proof than constant hacking of a big world. WoT is basically a kludge on top of a kludge.

  3. “the stuff untextured from the other side and all that (it’s done intentionally to increase the performance of the hangar).” And also, because in order to save work, nobody would see outside the hangar anyway.

    • That thing is not good this days – nerfed to oblivion…

But still funny times i remamber when they give combat car. 7 combat cars shooting on you from all sides, and bouncing all shells – priceless…

      • The regular H35 from the French tree can do this too, didn’t you know ? I call it my little gift tank terror. :)

        • MY LITTLE GIFT TANK MY LITTLE GIFT TANK AAAAAH AAAAAAAH AAAAAAA-AAAAAAAAH!
(My little gift tank) I used to wonder what PREM means to me
(My little gift tank) Until you have shared it’s “magic” with me >:(

You have my little gift tanks
Do you know you’re all my very best friends?

PS: Sorry… as i read it this lyric kicked into my mind. :)

    • Plot twist: It’s a fog. And there are zombies outside. This is why nobody wants to paint the outer part of the hangar.
